Whats the worst thing about the Wii?

Recommended Posts

Right then, you know it, i know it, and some people we know also know it but don't know they know it yet!...!..?!?!

What do they all know? Well it is obvious! We all know the Wii is amazingly brilliant!

Right then after that weird opening to the topic i think i better start typing some sense otherwise the mods might burn me in a van 'a la Rachelle Waterman': http://www.blogherald.com/2004/11/30/live-journal-blogger-has-mother-killed/.

Hang on that went even further off topic! and this is the first post!

Right then Definitely on topic now:

The Wii is brilliant! But there are a few little things that get to me! And after this latest update i wondered what i would like to see updated, and then i stopped wondering and decided what i would like to see updated! And my main concern is the lack of an onscreen indicator for the strength of your wifi signal, when i am on the various wii channels i wouldn't mind something maybe on the home menu just to check the signal strength so that i could identify any possible issues or random disconections.

So then, even though you are actually in love with your console, what are your issues with it?

er... the lack of HD super graphics!

I've been playing Nintendo games since Game & Watch. I've loved every console and still own them all in original packaging.

I must admit though when I heard of the Wii and the concept behind it I wasn't happy. Especially with the graphics. But after spending a single evening at my mate's place playing on his, I was hooked. Wii sports is a gaming revolution.

The whole evening flew right by and it was pure gaming gold. Wii sports also has such a simple look to it, but I never even thought of the graphics because it was just so great to play.

I'm still slightly sad that we won't be seeing Hyrule, the Mushroom Kingdom and Samus' Universe in the glorious detail that is possible in this day and age. But when the Wii is as fun as it is, I've just gotta love it.

Lack of power, and lack of second analog stick on the Wiimote. I like my Wii over all though. Can't wait for Madden, Metroid, and Mario!

The Freeloader doesn't work.

The online sucks.

Lack of Porn Channel plug-ins.

Tiny Hard Drive (could've been WAY bigger with virtually no cost to Nintendo)

And we have yet to get an "S Rank game." TP just didn't stand out.

Just the fact that we only have a limited amount of memory really, and that there are not a great amount of online games released at the moment, which in reality could quite easily have the option, e.g Excite Truck, Mario Party 8.

it's made out of plastic. that being said, i really wouldn't mind paying 300 euro more for a cutting edge powerfull wii. made out of gold instead of plastic. imagine that shit. it would weigh six kilo and get awfully hot all the time. kinda like a 360, only this one will have a "made of gold" excuse. and it would have "nintendo" written on it. priceless.

haha agree with you.

I guess we'll get a hard drive though at some point. With downloadable games coming and probably demos the need will be there.

Online really sucks. I can update just fine but playing online is impossible. And there I got the official dongle in the hope that it would work best :(

I'd really like games to load at startup.

Lack of HD.

Lack of online titles.

Lack of a unified online service.

Over-priced controllers.

Terrible system (no loading bar!) when using the VC.

Probably third party attitudes towards the systems. Companies trying to make a quick buck by not using the system to even a percentage of the system's potential.

That is all.

Ports ports ports

Lots of developers not doing much effort to give games decent graphics

WiiConnect 24 is a bit of a disappointment

Region locked

And this isn't really about the system itself, but you still can't convert your stars to Wiipoints

-lack of certain genres for the moment like good realcar (not mario kart or f-zero) racing games (hell, i'd settle for a better looking port of gt4 from ps2)

- lack of something that could really set off nintendo online, for instance a version of the upcoming team fortress 2 (it's cell-shaded)

- lack of a non-nintendo game that even remotely looks like it's build was started on the wii devkit and not the gamecube devkit.

- lack of even the smallest of hd (10GB or so) so that there could be small patches to wii games, demo's and some room to at least keep some upcoming wiiware titles on it and not constantly save to SD cards.

- difference in VC titles coming available in different regions, it's a service on the WORLD WIDE web for christ sakes.

...I never even thought of the graphics because it was just so great to play...

Is that not one of the most perfect quotes for the wii ever, actually playing the games with the wiimote is more than enough to make up for the lack of next gen graphics.

What a wonderful post that was zechs, it is good to see what i call 'the magic of motion' at work, wii sports is one of the greatest ideas in gaming history, to bundle a game that anyone can start playing straight away, is the perfect way to break in a new control system and also a perfect way to get as many people interested in the console... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ lol it's great when commercially sound ideas are also brilliant for getting more people up for multi-player sessions!

anyway, yes great post ZM!

I love the Wii, I genuinely believe I will look back and delcare it to be th ebest console ever, and I've had 90% of all consoles and handhelds (even thr Jaguar and Lynx) - the Wii is just awesome and ignited my love for gaming again (after getting a little bored over the years).

BUT thats not what this thread is about, here is what I would like updating!

- For the connect24 to actually be connected 24 hours a day!

- To send and receive pictures via email/message board

- Updated Mii features (more comprehesinve)

- A better online service would be good, though in practice I'm not that bothered really!

- Cheaper VC games would be nice

- A hardrive would b good as EVERYONE says - but more importantly I would like to be able to play off the SD card - both saves and VC games

1) Region-Locked

2) No Auto-Boot-Option if you insert a disk - including starting up with a disk of course - (that's just damn stupid to don't add the possibility for it - e.g. if you insert a GameCube disk you have to use the Wiimote just for starting the game)

That are my things I hate most...

Not that much but still:

3) that you can't start Wii Channels from SD-Card and of course also that you can't use your savegames as long as the are on the SD-Card...

Because basically 512MB internal memory are enough IF you could SD-Card-Storage for doing everything you can with the internal...

Oh... Just to mention this... the 512MB are no HDD ... It is just Flash-Memory...

Probably third party attitudes towards the systems. Companies trying to make a quick buck by not using the system to even a percentage of the system's potential.

That is all.

Nintendo started and perpetuated that behavior with Zelda, SPM, Fire Emblem, DK Jet, and other quick and dirty GC conversions.

Its ironic that the system with the lowest development costs and risk is getting the most predictable library.

And thats my biggest gripe with the Wii. The hardware, while stable and capable, just seems to encourage and reward laziness.

Ill be glad when Nintendo gets out of their current 'retool and rerelease every first party GC game' mentality.

The motion sensing capabilities of the remote aren't being used enough. Wii Sports and Wario Ware used them really well, but since then, there's just been a lot of pointing and shaking.

the auto shutdown every time you go back to the main menu.

the lack of online games

no head set

friendcodes suck

The utterly gash friendcodes system.

If I want to play a GC game I have to load the disc using the Wiimote then switch to the GC controller, so annoying. If I plug the GC controller in I should be able to navigate the menus with it.

Since the firmware update I cant get into the Shop.

There's nothing to play on it and wont be until Paper Mario next month.

ps2 graphics

I have reason to believe you've never seen PS2 graphics. These things also depend on the game too you know.

I hate the 360 autoboot...it's SO annoying if you're already on the Home Page thing, and then it boots up.

But yeah, an option on the Wii I wouldn't mind, the same with the 360!!!

For me there is a serious lack of games for me to buy. Nothing grabs my fancy right now and i'm afraid unlike most I can't chuck £30 at a game that just isn't worth the money. Saying that there's a good 6 on the horizon but nothing right now. Online could do with sorting out, I know it's free but a one code system would make things so much better. Perhaps a greater influence from wfc 24/7 and a hard drive plus more community based things. I don't know about anyone else but the stuff like Mii interaction, sending messages, is just too damn slow and doesn't really feel like a community to me. Channels that involve loads of people taking part in say simple, Wii related games, would be awesome. Something Brain training Wii could've done but didn't. More emphasis on third parties to create original games and actually use the Wiis power instead of porting PS2 games with added controls. All that being said i'm quite happy with where it's headed and to be fair it's not even been out a year here, I remember the 360 and cube taking just over a year to start getting the decent games out. If this situation remains next year i'll be worried.

Don't worry Viper, there'll soon be great games, ond not just good & okay ones, the great games never com out at the start (appart from GC with Smash Bros.)....This time next year you wont be worrying:heh:

Well to be honest it's actually later this year the games I want are out :heh:. The obvious ones, Super maz and Metroid. Then there's Battalion Wars 2, Super Paper Maz, and Nitrobikes (yeh the graphics look sub par but it's the team behind Excitebike 64).

DanBrownN, the amount of conviction and adoration you speak with when talking about the Wii, is almost terrifying.

I think the online service, needs some kind of centralised hub, like the 360's dashboard, so you can see which of your friends are online and what they are playing.

I think devs need to realise that the consoles features don't always have to be used if the game doesn't fit. Wii controls do not, and cannot work in a superior way to conventional (classic controller) controls in football or fighting games for example. Both options should be available, i.e Resi 4 Wii.
