Will Level 5 survive long enough for this game to come out? Find out in 7 month’s time… if we’re lucky!

A PS4 and Switch 1 game in Twenty Twenty Six. Jesus Fucking Christ…
-
Looks like a Layton game! Here’s hoping that it actually comes out before Level 5 go bankrupt!
-
I would’ve thought this initially, but the fact that it has a designated product number (CLO-001), like what all of their retail products have, is what gives me pause here.

Ooh! Sounds like some sort of motion detecting sensor to me… Could the Switch 2 dock be sporting some interesting motion capture tech this time around?

Castlevania Dominus Collection (available today – 27th August 2024!)
Dcubed replied to Julius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
So I’m playing Haunted Castle Revisited in the Castlevania Dominus Collection and… … I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m actually having fun! I think M2 may well have actually done the impossible here. They took one of the absolute worst games ever made and have actually made something fun out of it!! I don’t think it’s as good as their previous series attempt (Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth), which was a similar total re-imagining of a maligned Castlevania game that might as well be a brand new game, but this is far more impressive because Haunted Castle is such an absolute travesty dung heap that it’s incredible that they’ve managed to get anything worthwhile out of the source material!! -

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom (26th September 2024)
Dcubed replied to Julius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Nice, but far from the most important parts of the interview I reckon. It makes for good headlines, but she’s far from the first female director on a Nintendo project as they’ve had many over the years. I think a more interesting take is that Hidemaro Fujibayashi seems to have had no involvement with this game. He basically took over Aonuma’s role as the series’ main director some 15+ years ago, and (with the exception of A Link Between Worlds), he has had a directorial role on every mainline Zelda game since Phantom Hourglass. It does feel like this game has been developed as a form of counterprogramming to what 3D Zelda has become; despite Aonuma’s comments about freedom. At least him and the rest of Nintendo do seem to understand the need for diversity within the series’ gameplay now; as well as the need for diversity at the directorial level too -
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom (26th September 2024)
Dcubed replied to Julius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Hmm… That interview is giving me mixed feelings… On one hand, this sounds promising for the future of the series… … on the other hand, this one fills me full of dread… … and this one makes me question Aonuma’s confidence and skill as a game designer… … it suggests a rather blinkered view that doesn’t quite seem to understand how those game design restrictions actually make games fun to begin with. Take Chess for example. In his world, the game would be more “fun” if every piece could just move like a Queen, but is that really the case when it removes the foundational strategic gameplay element and the stakes involved with escalation of power with each piece on the board? I don’t think so. Freedom is not the be-all-end-all of game design that he seems to think it is; in fact, it is often its enemy. Also rather interestingly, it seems that Greezo were the primary developer on this game; with Aonuma and EPD staff only offering guidance and oversight; not unlike the Flagship developed Zeldas of yesteryear (OOS/OOA, Four Swords, Minish Cap). First time that an external studio has lead development on a Zelda game since Minish Cap was released near enough 20 years ago! Hopefully that has helped to insulate the game somewhat from this poisonous mindset that Aonuma is suggesting. -
It's finally here!!! https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0DFWJYXTX?th=1 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0DFX1XFFH?th=1 At long last! We have finally reached the coverted 2TB Micro SD card! The maximum of the SDXC format, and the maximum that the Switch and all other currently commercially available devices can support! Finally! An upgrade worth considering for me... maybe not at the current price though Going beyond 2TB will require SD Cards to move to the SDUC (Ultra Capacity) format, which isn't commercially available yet, nor supported by any currently available electronics device (Supports up to 128TB at 4GB per sec). I suspect that Switch 2 will be the first device to support it, because there isn't really any other choice of mobile storage format that can give you the storage speed that you need to keep up with PS5/Series X games (unless Nintendo start shipping games on SSDs lol).

General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion
Dcubed replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Wow! Didn’t expect the Hokkaido Serial Murder Case to top the charts in Japan! (20.919 copies sold) https://www.installbaseforum.com/forums/threads/media-create-sales-week-37-2024-sep-09-sep-15.3014/ @Ike, it actually outsold the FDC Switch remakes’ first week (12,269) and almost matched Emio’s debut! (25,028). Very impressive for an old school text adventure game! -
AFAIK, it’s a standalone story. So you don’t need to have played the others first.

Shocking that it took them this long. The asset theft is so blatant that it may as well have been an Ace Attorney case. Can't help but feel that the damage has already been done. Pocket Pal have already made out like bandits, and the courts may not side with Nintendo for having taken too long to bring the matter to them I fear... Still, it's interesting that they're approaching this from a patent infringement perspective, rather than a copyright infringement perspective... Sounds like they have an interesting battle plan here, perhaps with the goal of opening up Pocket Pal to Discovery; where they will inevitably find more incriminating evidence of their asset theft…

Also, those devices are incremental upgrades that come out every year. Most people don't feverishly buy every new version of a phone that comes out, because they know that each one is a reletively minor upgrade over last year's model that runs all the same apps and does most things exactly the same (but just a bit faster or shinier). It's very different when you're putting out a new generation of console hardware that has a completely new games library, being released 5-8 years after its predecessor. You expect something massively different and new; so when it comes out looking almost the same as the previous console (especially after you already released several redesigns/refreshes of said hardware before), you have a Wii U/3DS situation on your hands. The expectations of a new console vs a new phone are dramatically different.
-
Just gonna point out that custom PCBs are something quite commercially available now, through services like PCBWay. Would be reletively trivial to make a custom PCB that looks real when making fake console photos these days... That's another reason why I don't believe it's real. It looks too much like the existing model. A lesson that they would surely have learned coming from the Wii U and 3DS (consoles that both suffered heavily in terms of sales & marketing from looking too much like their predecessors).

Ace Attorney Investigations Collection (6th September 2024)
Dcubed replied to Julius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
So I just beat AAI 1 again. Thoroughly enjoyed my time, meme final case and all. Really great playing it again after all these years So now I'm finally starting AAI 2 and I've just gotten up to the first save point in case 1 and... Game's off to an explosive start, especially for a long-time fan! -
Damn, that really sucks. Nothing's worse than a save file destroying bug. Yeah, don't touch the game until they actually finish it. Its clearly been pushed out the door way before it's done cooking.
-
In this age of easily accessible 3D printing and AI image generation, today's fake consoles are gonna be wild
-
Ahh, we're now getting into the time of fake images. One of the most fun parts of any good pre-console launch window period Edit: Speaking of fake images... here's another one!

Freedom Wars Remastered (Switch, PS4/PS5, PC)
Dcubed replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Good for Vita fans (full disclosure, I had a Vita on day 1, but just wasn't interested in this game). Personally though, I'm far more interested in the implications of a First Party Playstation Japan Studios IP suddenly coming to Switch. There are a LOT of Japan Studios games I'd be very interested in if they were to come to Switch [cough]Shadow of the Collosus and Everybody's Golf[/cough]. -
You could say a lot of the same about Japan Studio's IP in general though? The majority of their output was co-developed with outside studios. Off the top of my head, you have Level-5 (Dark Cloud 1-2, Rogue Galaxy, White Knight Story, Jeanne D'arc) Cattle Call (Arc the Lad) Matrix Software (Alundra IP) Media.vision (Wild Arms) Marvelous (Soul Sacrifice) NanaOn-Sha (Parrappa The Rapper/Umjammer Lammy/Vib Ribbon) Everybody's Golf (Clap Hanz, Camelot for the first game) You even have several modern studios that splintered off from Playstation, such as Playrise Digital (former Psygnosis/Studio Liverpool), and Gen Design (former Team Ico/SOTC) that could potentially bring back other forgotten Playstation IP (such as WipeOut). This move opens up a lot of doors all of a sudden!
-
WTF!?!? This is a First Party Playstation Japan Studios production!! Sony still fully own the IP! That's nuts! So they're now willing to port their abandoned Japan Studio IP over to the Switch? Can we have Wild Arms please?

Have never played BvsDD, one of the few Rare games I've yet to play Nice update!
-
I bet it was working fine on an earlier version of Proton, but is now broken on the current version. Even more reason for me to wait until the game is fully patched up and actually finished before playing.
