I'd say it comes down to three reasons. Firstly, the traditional console market is shrinking. Simply put, Sony are selling less PS5s than PS4s, and they need to ensure that their revenue line keeps going up to satisfy their investors. So they simply raise the price to make up for the shortfall in hardware sales. Secondly, their main competitor is falling apart, so they can more easily get away with continued price hikes as Xbox becomes less competitive in general and Playstation increasingly becomes the only game in town. Finally, worldwide consumer inflation has simply conditioned people to accept higher prices for consumer goods in general. People are getting used to paying inflated prices for other tech goods, so the idea of a more expensive console becomes more acceptable as a response. As far as the PS5 Pro goes? I think that Sony know that they will be primarily targetting enthusiasts who would otherwise be looking to buy PCs and GPUs at enormously inflated prices with this console; so I think it'll be priced accordingly. I'm betting on $699.99/€699.99 myself (as an added bonus, it also avoids the dreaded "meme price" of $599.99 too).

Really interested to see where the price is gonna land with this thing… Crazy that we’re getting a PS5 Pro before a Switch 2 (crazy on Nintendo’s end for being late, not Sony’s for being early), but there ya go!

RGD has released an updated video on Project Indy with a few new tidbits of information! Notably it mentions the use of a downclocked version of the Wii U's Latte GPU, which could switch between different MHz speeds depending on whether or not it was being used as a handheld or console, some more detailed tech specs (including some parts that actually did get repurposed in the current Switch we have today), as well as the notion that the New3DS' Super Stable 3D feature was originally developed for the Indy, before being retrofitted into the New3DS instead! As an added bonus, there's also a little mention of some details behind the cancelled portable Gamecube here too, as well as what may have been a Wii U Pro of sorts!

Some early pre-alpha footage of gameplay has leaked from an internal SEGA meeting! https://streamable.com/dn9z33 Looks like the core gameplay revolves around racing other players from checkpoint to checkpoint... Hmm...

Bakeru (Totally not Goemon) (3rd September 2024)
Dcubed replied to Dcubed's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I will get round to playing Bakeru at some point, but right now, my priority is the Ace Attorney Investigations collection. Have waited a literal decade and a half to play AAI2, and that’s getting prioritised over anything else. -
Yeah, I’d try not to play too many in a row; because the metroidvania CVs do all play fairly similarly; despite each having unique gimmicks to call their own. They were more or less annualised during the GBA/DS eras, and it’s easy to get burnt out on them if played in quick succession. That’s one of the main reasons why OOE shook up the game structure quite significantly. Likewise, I’d suggest having a break before going back to play the unlockable modes; like Julius Mode. You’ll enjoy them more if you leave the game for a bit to become a bit more fresh again before tackling them
-
If it does come out on PC, I’d expect that it will require a Dual Sense controller to play; since it makes heavy use of its unique functionality (including gyro controls, the mic and the speaker). Might actually be a good Trojan Horse to get PC players to buy DS controllers come to think of it! I’d defo buy a DS controller just for Astro Bot if we do get a PC version

That’s nice to see. Hopefully they ramp up their PS1/2/P re-releases over the next few months to tie into the festivities as well.

The fact that pretty much every review is gushing about how much the game revels in Playstation nostalgia tells you everything really. It’s the rare example of nostalgia pandering coming from a company that in modern times has had no respect for its past. At a time where people really wanted to see a return to form for first party PlayStation productions and some love shown to PlayStation’s past? Astro Bot really couldn’t have come at a better time. It’s no wonder why it’s reviewing so well. And that’s not a knock against the game at all. It certainly looks like a quality 3D platformer, but these review scores are more telling of its place in the zeitgeist than they are of the game itself really. It’s a crowd pleaser in every sense of the word.
-
Not surprised it’s reviewing so highly. It’s the right game at just the right time. PS5 media outlets are desperate for a game like this; especially a first party exclusive that defies the usual “Sony Formula”, at a time where first party productions are seen as being at their lowest point in a long time and where the PlayStation brand is really letting long time fans down. The review scores in this case are highly politically driven, as it flies in the face of the failed GAAS initiative and offers a long overdue celebration of the IPs left forgotten by modern Sony. That it also looks to be a quality 3D platformer in its own right is really just the cherry on top.

They only published/distributed the physical releases, well after their original respective digital releases. They had nothing to do with their development. Anything funded and actually developed under GameMill's tenure as a publisher inevitably ends up being irredeemable rubbish.
-
Because GameMill, that's why The crazy thing is... I didn't even know this game even existed, but the moment I saw the title, I instantly knew that it'd be a GameMill product. A 3 second Google search later? Yup, knew it They are the absolute bottom of the barrel publisher. The worst of the worst.

If Switch 2 is indeed coming out in March 2025? This month is basically the last chance of any sort of announcement. I'm personally not betting on it. Timeframe is still too tight in my mind. I'm betting on it coming out no sooner than July 2025 now (and more likely November 2025), making a January 2025 reveal the most likely timeframe for me. As fed up as I am with the current Switch hardware and as desperate as I am to finally see Nintendo move onto something fresh, new and exciting? I can't see the announcement and release happening this year at this point. And yes, I do think Nintendo have made a big mistake with waiting far too long to replace the current console, with ramifications that will be paid by sluggish launch sales; owing to allowing the Switch brand to lose valuable mindshare as it splutters and peters out. The transition won't be a Wii-Wii U level disaster, but Switch 2 will struggle out of the gate I reckon. They've allowed the iron to go cold, just so they can chase that stupid PS2 hardware sales record and stroke their own egos; a foolish mistake that will cost them.

Bit of a vote of no confidence in the game's own soundtrack there. Kinda sad.
-
That's one of the biggest issues with the cartridge format. The manufacturing of the carts is so expensive that if you aren't projecting to sell above a certain threashold? It's literally not worth even printing the game; you would just be throwing away money in doing so. Add on the minimum order requirement that Nintendo had in place and it's no wonder why there are so many finished but left unreleased games for the N64. Just goes to further highlight how much of an utter disaster the choice of carts over CDs really was.

Stranger things have happened... Would you believe that NBA Elite 11 (a game cancelled so last minute that some PS3 copies actually reached store shelves prior to getting pulled) is the single rarest and most valuable PS3 game on the second hand market? Honestly may be worth picking up. As a now "cancelled" first party Sony release? It has a decent chance of being worth actual money in the future! Worst case scenario? It'll be an interesting little piece of history for the collection shelf.
-
Geez! No need to kick Sony while they're down Nintendo!
-
Blooming ‘eck! I wasn’t expecting Sony to actually listen to me! Probably should do the same with Fairgame Dollar Sign before it’s too late as well. Then dump Bungie, end this failed GAAS initiative and double down on the actual strengths of your development studios. High quality single player focused titles. Pray that Astro Bot does well, because that is exactly the kind of game that PlayStation should be making as a platform holder!

Uh-oh… Hope it wasn’t them who poached him!
