For a Sonic game, it IS a commercial bomb... I do feel bad for the conditions that BRB were undoubtedly lumped with, but the shift in platform mainly pertains to the game's technical issues. It doesn't really explain the rest of the game's generally poor gameplay design (outside of parts being cut) Even if they had the time to polish it up, with the direction they were taking with this game, it would've ended up mediocre at best anyway.

Critically acclaimed games you couldn't get on with
Dcubed replied to Josh64's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Not really. I can totally understand people being put off by the slow pacing. I don't mind it personally (and I think it's a great game) but I can totally understand it not being someone's cup O' tea... Anyway, you could probably fill out my list with most AAA games out there from last/current generation (save for Gears of War 1 and Bioshock), so I'll just gloss over those. Not interested in games that prioritise story/production values over actual gameplay mechanics in general (unless it's something like Heavy Rain, which I actually enjoyed because it made no pretences about being anything but an interactive movie; and despite having more holes in it's plot than swiss cheese, it actually succeeded at what it set out to do in regards to branching story choices) So with that in mind... a few specific ones... Disgaea series: Far too grind heavy for me. Anything that involves a huge grind is a massive turnoff for me. Shame really, cause they're generally really funny and the actual core gameplay is pretty fun; but that grind is just utterly soul crushing... Fire Emblem Awakening: Not that I don't think it's great, I just take issue with it being so much more highly rated than other FE games. For me, it's a bit too reliant on luck for my liking and the pair-up system is a bit overpowered. Also not really a fan of how they allowed for grinding to be done and it is seriously lacking in mission variety (whatever happened to having varied mission objectives? Or Fog of War? - Thankfully FE If seems to be bringing that back though! ) Persona series: The gameplay just simply doesn't interest me at all. Combat is very basic and the dungeon design just isn't interesting. I get the feeling that most play it for the story and characters/social link stuff; rather than the actual gameplay... Halflife 2: There really isn't anything special about it at all. Outside of the Wow Factor it would've had at the time, with its graphics/physics/story, the actual gameplay isn't really fun or interesting at all. Level design isn't particularly noteworthy either, outside of how you can manipulate the game's physics to bypass parts of it. Halo series: 30 seconds of fun remains fun for about that long... I trudged through the first three games to see what the fuss was about and it was an agonising slog. The wide, open environments must've wowed people at the time, but it doesn't make it fun. The level design is meandering and confused, with no meaningful encounters made out of it outside of the vehicles and while the AI is impressive, you see the same enemies and encounters repeated over and over and over... The Library level is perhaps the best example of the agonising Copy/Paste approach that really defines the single player of these games... ... The multiplayer is good though. Far from my favourite MP shooters, but credit where credit is due. It's the defacto, go-to alien based FPS and it does a decent enough job of that. GTA series: You can have all of the Oscar Worthy story/characters/acting/whatever you like, but if it is not fun to even walk around, then I am not going to enjoy your game. The controls have always been horrible and Rockstar seemingly don't care enough about gameplay to fix them. Likewise, the mission design is typically nothing outstanding from a gameplay perspective (though I do give them credit for trying with GTA 5 with the heists). I don't mind watching someone else play these games (at least then I can enjoy the parts that are actually good, like the radio stations!), but when that's more fun than actually using a controller myself, then someone's priorities are seriously messed up... Portal 2 (single player): ... pretty much. The co-op however is spectacular! For as much as I love the characters and production values of Portal 2's single player, it's a much weaker puzzle game because it just funnels the player down a path; rather than actually allowing them to find their own solution... The co-op mode doesn't suffer from this however and is BRILLIANT! It really allows the new mechanics (like the gels, which were a great addition that go heavily under-utilised in the single player mode) come out in full force Demons/Dark Souls: Generally boring level design, coupled with functional but not remarkable combat and a very heavy focus on stats porn make it not my kind of game. I appreciate what it sets out to do with its old school difficulty, but the actual core gameplay mechanics just don't interest me. There are plenty more I can think of, but that'll do for now You're not alone there... I wasn't a big fan of LKS either. Not that I didn't think it was charming (cause it certainly was!), but I'm not really a fan of the town building part of it and that was far bigger of a focus than I expected. It also wasn't nearly as strategic as I was hoping for and more of a very basic action game outside of the town. Nice and charming, but just kind of dull to play. -
Glen-i's ridiculous comeback in gif form!

At first it went well... But then... The hell happened to me!? It's like all my skill was drained out of me as time went on
-
DAMMIT! I got disconnected in the 2nd race of GP1!!
-
Damn shame that you picked X&Y as your first, cause that is my 2nd least favourite mainline game (Ruby/Sapphire is my worst). B&W/B&W2 is infinitely superior! As is Gold/Silver. Red/Blue and Diamond/Pearl are much better too!

Gates to Infinity was good, but suffered from some cripplingly slow text speed, a lack of Pokemon and just slow pacing in general. That game just really needs a boost of nitro. I didn't really mind the low difficulty that came during the main game, cause the post game was suitably soul crushingly hard at least. Hopefully they've figured that out with this one...

HAL most certainly ARE still around, but they're too busy making Boxboy, Pokemon Ranger and Kirby to make Pokemon Snap :p

Please don't be F2P, Please don't be F2P, Please don't be F2P, Please don't be F2P, Please don't be F2P, Please don't be F2P...

Oh yeah! Before I forget! IN!

When not even a Boo on the front cover can quell his fury, you KNOW that Nintendo messed up bad... ... They had better put out premium priced Marker DLC and a Marker Pen Amiibo to make up for this injustice or they can kiss their company goodbye! :p

People play the crap out of MonHun on 'ere! Online is fab, despite the lack of voice chat. Camera works just fine with the virtual D-pad as well, so you've nothing to fear (well, except for the sight of a Rathalos nomming your face of course )
-
It still exists!? Could've fooled me! Hell this announcement is so ridiculously low key that I'm still not even sure if it actually exists :p
-
It's good, in fact the combination powerup system is really great! I've wanted it to return for ages! Outside of a couple of the hidden shards being sort of BS to figure out, I only have one real complaint with it, it is a big one though... It's SLLLLOOOOOOWWWWWW. Seriously! It feels like you're constantly moving through treacle (and I was playing the US 60hz version! I can't imagine how slow the PAL one must feel!) It's a shame, cause otherwise it's great, but damn is it sluggish to control...

To think that they only had the one single level and weapon at E3 last year! That's an inkredible turnaround indeed! Soon the transformation will be complete... ... soon...
-
Oh yeah, should add that Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX has been delayed till September 11th...
-
You've never done E3 bingo cards? They're good fun! You make up a list of things that are likely/unlikely to appear and make a bingo card out of them. It's fun knocking them off the list as it happens!
-
Same. It's a yearly tradition to book it off and gather round with friends/family, bingo cards in hand as we stay up throughout the night and I'll be damned if I'm gonna break it this year!

If you're playing off a HDD... this game seems to be a weird case where it suffers from some nasty stuttering that happens seemingly randomly... Putting it onto the internal memory solved it for me. This is the only game in my entire library that has ever had any trouble running from USB HDD for some strange reason (must be something to do with how it loads levels as you play). But yeah, sticking it onto the internal storage should fix the problem. Oh and this is my favourite Kirby game for sure! It's a masterpiece! (as nice as Triple Deluxe is, it's still not up there with this one - though it does have it beat in the boss fight department; they're not bad in KRTD/KAWii, not the best in the series, but they really are just spectacular in Triple Deluxe! - Otherwise, KRTD is definitely the better of the two for reasons that I've gone over before )

I... don't disprove of these changes! Actually sounds pretty interesting! Knew they would have something in mind to replace the weapon degrading! : peace: Nice to know that non health restoring staves will forever remain Too Precious To Use though
-
Yeah just noticed, cool! Hope that they do some sort of new NWC compilation thingy that includes games from all different consoles and that they put it up on the eShop!
-
MK trophies making a return? Don't mind if I do!
-
8 locations is pathetic. I'd also hope that they don't just use NES Remix's NWC mode; I wanted to see something grander that better encompassed their total console history instead of just the NES... ... Not that it matters much to us anyway, you know, America = The World and all that :p

Did anyone else get an email asking them to take a survey about this game? The questions inside are kind of interesting... ... Certainly not your typical NOE survey... Hmm... Still haven't had a chance to play this BTW!

None. Shouldn't be a problem for moi!
