I dont get what the fuss about Funeral for a Friend is. I saw them last november on the taste of chaos tour, and despite the fact they were headliners they were absolutely blown away by The Used and Killswitch engage. Fightstar are a band you have to respect. Charlie took a very bold and risky step, not only losing money, but alienating a whole group of peopel making a return impossible. The band has produced some very good music - listen to palahnuiks laughter - and the album has got very good reviews, particularly in kerrnag (who admittedly like to exagerate) called it the best british rock debut of the decade.

Is this place the only sane place on the net?!

dont bash wiki! I agree that it is one of the best uses of the internet, and best ways to find broadly accurate information there is. I have learnt heaps and spent hours on there, where I start off looking at item A, and get so side tracked I end up looking at item Z. -
Anyone got there Leeds or Reading festival tickets yet?

There will be at least 1 more batch released if this year is like previous years. Personally I am amazed at how poor the line-up is. The only band playing I really want to see are Muse, although there are maybe 5 or 6 other bands I would consider seeing. Previous years the line-up has been very solid, but this year seems like a total sell out with just bands that sell well because they are trendy. Very few people on the list have made more than 2 albums, and most have only just released their first. Its just as well download looks so good this year! -
I got 136, which is the same as i have had in several tests over the last couple of years, so presumably that is a pretty accurate idea of what my IQ is.

the line up looks so so so good! i am really looking forward to it. Dragonforce should be awesome. Quite a few of the bands playing are ones I have seen before and am excited to see again, especially Coheed and Cambria. I saw Ginger when he was in The Wildhearts, so i'm very interested to hear what his new band sounds like. the only band on the list I actually dislike are the Zico Chain, who I saw supporting the Fall of Troy a couple of weeks ago and wasn't impressed by at all. very boring grunge.

blur doesn't deal with the instrumental side. the band is nothing to do with blur. Damon Albarn, from blur has a hand in the music and some of the singing. He set the group up, witha group of aminator and rapper friends he has. Wikipedia has the whole thing explained clearly.

nah, its not really a dig about birmingham, as cities go its fantastic, i just really want to get away from it all for a while as its been very difficult recently. ill go see the careers advisor at uni. and get her to sign of copy of her book

as some of you may know I have decided to leave uni at the end of this year, rather than finish my course. I will instead be taking a course at the open university and will transfer my credit to that. because of the credit transfer procedure i cant start my new course untill the academic year 07/08, rather than this september. this gives me 12 months with no cast iron commitments, except i must be earning during that time. I will need a place to live, and going home isnt really an option. I have had a very hard last couple of months, and really want to get away from birmingham for a while, and go to some wilderness/forest/jungle. basically anywhere with natural beauty. those of you familiar with birmingham will understand why a friend suggested that working a abroad for a while would be a good plan, and i agree with her, but i'm not sure how to go about finding a 6 month paid job abroad. i am going to see if any tour operators need guides or something. any other suggestions would be great, some of you here must have either done the same thing or know someone who has.

i got a science award in year 6, and i have a certificate for balancing an egg on its end! apparently its only possible if you are actually on the equator, and even then its hard.

when i was in halls if was a flat with 5 peopkle and there was never a single time when trhere was a bathroom queue, as we were all on different courses and needing to do different things. if you think you'll all be fighting for the shower at 7.30am each morning you have the wrong idea about being a student!
-
i'm delighted coheed have been annouced, as i saw them recently and loved it. i saw funeral for a friend last november and just dont see what the fuss is about, as they are so generic with little stage presence. i am pleased about sikth, as i had been planning on going to their birmingham barfly gig, but now i dont need to bother. in all, its a good line up, with some very nice suprises. im really looking forward to it.

if you think you have apendicitus yu should get help asap, as if it explodes you are screwed. so if you really are worried get the doctor/ambulance to come round. ring up nhs direct (assumign you are in the UK) and they should be able to give you a fairly accurate idea of if you have it or not.

what about you get an internal HDD, but mount it in an external caddy. that way you get the reliability of an internal drive without tsaking up the space in your tower. i have a hdd set up like this and its great.
-
i download evrythign i want to watch/get it on dvd, as i dont want to schedule my life around what the tv stations have decided i should do, rather watch tv when i have the time/inclination.
-
i fourth the internal hdd option, and second the maxtor being decent and cheap option

it appears as though london is the place to be then people!

Kula Shaker hve reformed and have just announced a UK tour! Personally I am delighted by this and have my ticket to see them in coventry on april 2nd - can't wait! although i liked most britpop i loved kula shaker as they were barely britpop at all and were so different to the other bands around, like pulp also were. I also liked the indian influence, as it somehow reminded me of the victorian times with the british empire! anyone else going?

a few years ago i did some work with anthea turner and went to her house. for a similar thing i also met the survivng 'two fat laidies' woman. oh, and i have met kim and aggie from how clean is your house when soem friends of mine were on the show. and band people

sucess! only problem is that its 44 mb and im not sure what type it is (possibly PCM). edit: solved! i used the PCM file to create an audio cd image in nero, which i then mounted in alcohol and then ripped in media player. i then used mp3trim to trim the crap from the begining. yay
-
i bought a dvd single today, and i want to rip the audio to mp3. i have used dvd shrink to isolate and rip the audiostream, but it is a .VOB, and i'm not sure how to convert it to mp3.

i tried the cino stuff today. i like it, except it is insanely sweet.

i am amazed how poor the reaction to tool is! i can't wait to see them, probably the band im most excited about seeing. i think guns n' roses will probably be very disapointing, ill probaby go to the snickers stage after a while, unles ts him or someone playing there

i am at uni and knew pretty quickly i was on the wrong course. I decided to go for it and carry on untill i worked out exactly what i wanted to do instead and how to go about doing it. It isnt enough to have a vague idea about what to do instead, you need to know every step of the way. i am leaving my course at the end of the year, and transferring my credit to an ope university degree instead. i am very excited abou it, but obviously dont know yet if i have made te right choice, but it does feel right. good luck trying to decide! oh, another thing worth bearing in mind is that often the first yuear of a course is awful, as they need to make sure everyone knows the basics, you mayfind the second year will be more what you wanted - try asking some second years about it and see what the modules are like.

A History of Violence 5/10 Terrible. It had a basic storyline and was essentially pointless. The acting wasnt bad though
