My third! First was based on a cassette a mate found at a car boot in sheffield; was a football-themed one. Second was a performance by a local theatre group, in combination with some sort of cooking class. They put on an average performance and school-dinner food, but the atmosphere was great fun. This time two of my friends came up with teh script and the menu from scratch and it was an utterly brilliant night They're thinking of doing a wild west one next time. I'm tempted to help them with script/characters (probably based on my mafiawesome: San luis Six :P) as they had a few errors this time... but there's not really anything to gain from it. I've had so many memorable new year's that it's hard to agree with you. My core personality would probably agree, but I think that if I sat down and worked it out I could probably tell you precisely where I was for each NYE for the last 20 years; each has been so memorable for one reason or another. The one time at my mum's friend's house where I first heard Auld Lang's Syne (or whatever it's called) and we got the dog drunk (I was like 6 years old), or the time at my (then) best friend's house where we conga'd down the street at the stroke of midnight - that is, a line of adults, and I would've been 10 at the most - or the time I organised a gathering down at the lagoon, everyone said maybe then 30+ people turned up and we all did shots in the park and celebrated midnight several times as none of us had correct watches, or the time when I was one of three kids and the other two were obsessed with duke nukem -- or at least paying the pixellated strippers to show us their jagged boobs over and over and over and over and... The time when a bunch of us were at a mate's desolate house - his mum and nan had died and he'd inherited two houses, one of which was whitewashed but had no furniture. We sat in the front bedroom playing games and essentially having a picnic, not realising the new year had dawned 'til about 1am. The time I was on IRC chatting to n-ers, ready to spend the evening there -- then a mate invites me over last-minute (god bless MSN) and like 8 of us stumble into his house and get the msot drunk any of us had at the time (16 at the time i think) Or the time at my old house where my mum hosted and had loads of adults and one of her friends threw up on my shoes and another of her friends secretly fed me vodka and lemonade (aged... sub-10 again!) One year I hosted a party (18?) and my girlfriend, bless her soul, got extremely pissed. I spent the entrance to the new year wishing ym unconscious girlfriend a happy new year and kissing her forehead after she broke a bottle of vodka. The previous year I hosted it and spent it out the back of my house smoking weed, eating a kebab and, with two mates, cursing the stupid people in my house. To me, NYE has always, always, always been a wonderful experience. No two seem to have ever been the same. I've just realised how epically long this post is... but yeah, I guess NYE is one of my favourite days of the year and yet I never get excited for it or plan anything, and each year I have a totally new experience.

Perfect vid to describe why I don't like Curb Your Enthusiasm. Controlling soundtrack, OTT 'improv' and serious lack of FUCKING COMMON FUCKING SENSE.

JUST got in from a thrilling murder mystery night, completely organised by two mates. Food was top notch, story and script was ace and fun was had throughout. Started at 6pm and I didn't even properly check to see what the time was until midnight, which shows you how entertaining it all was. Great fun! Only thing is that now I'm not looking likely to make my midday train to london - no matter, I'll get one when I wake up.

Ironically I think Hodgeson does best with a mediocre squad, squeezing more draws against middling sides than would be expected of him. I'm pretty sure I mentioned it in this thread back when he was hired that it was a mistake, as it is so blood clear that liverpool do best with a flourishing attack mentality. Asides from him, Joe Cole's gotta be the biggest let-down for the year so far. Chelsea did without terry and lampard or ages and struggled... liverpool had gerrard and torres and cole (most of the time) and did dick all with it. Sides like spurs show you how it's done - great youth development, clever acquisitions. Liverpool, with the season they've had, have done well to reach the position they have -- technically they still have a good shout for europe. Personally I think newcastle has been the most impressive and, in a sense, over-achieving this year. Andy Carrol has been a phenom - such a shame he didn't do well for his england debut as I think he's a real future star. Also a shame albrighton had such a shite game the other night! Another bright young spark. The only reason I watch MOTD is to see how the future england squad is looking, and I think with the right manager (redknapp :P) there's a lot of hope ahead of us.

My sister made up a joke when she was like 5. How long's a gun? A KILLERmetre! ¬__¬

Duh. Well tonight I'm going to a murder mystery dinner party organised by my mates - they've printed out booklets and are providing three courses of posh grub (8oz ribeye steak for the main, :P) and wine and champagne. Paid £15 for it, but surely worth it. My character is Horatio Cunningham, rear-admiral (have your lols), but due to financial crisis I can't afford to dress up proper. However I've got suited up with a large overcoat and a bowler hat. I may look more like a bank manager, but hey. As for the MAIN EVENT tomorrow night, I'm training up to London to a mate's bedsit, where 4-5 of us are going to get mega drunk and play nerdy games like catan, Go, chess, fluxx, blockus, and probably try to set up a game of drinking battleship. Mates in brighton are going out, because they're insane and made of money. I can't even remember what I did last NYE. Anyone got plans?

Turns out I have £10 in my account 'til my birthday. Luckily I'm stocked up on everything, I can last just a shame! Roll on jobtiem.

Just to add, I've not appeared since dayphase 1 write-up, as far as I can tell, hence my lack of info (as I can only draw from that, anyway).

I'm considering doing a Star Trek themed one at some point. I know it's geeky, but there's a rich universe ready to go with all sorts of races and allegiances. I'd probably not be very accurate to the lore -- but then I think mafias are best when there is little external info to help shade the characters.

Pretty sure my girlfriend has that jacket. And that phone. Wait a sec--

I've not given it much more thought - I tend to think more and more about it as the time arrives to do it, and then hash together a 'structure' a couple of days beforehand. Which is why it's always such a bloody mess.

Ja mon! I was down from xmas eve 'til a couple of days ago. my sister lives like 2 mins from the train station. I shall be back down in just over a week for my birthday. Where do you work? I may attempt to sneak in and spy on you.

Inspired by the buying-stuff thread, and in fear of thripping, I thought I'd pose the question myself. What do you think of DVD extras? Does the content sway your purchasing choice? I have no cents of my own yet.

Nothing new from me, folks.

I'm doing an apocalyptical game btw :P

in that case, sorry if I offended you I very much prescribe to the school of thought that was mentioned in the post above yours; we've been blessed with a console runtime that seems to be twice as long as previous generations. My favourite console before the 360 was the N64 - it produced so many gems that, while the PS was big-mouthing its thousand-game catalogue, managed to provide a higher standard of consistency. However, this generation really pushed gaming into the nation's living rooms while at the same time encouraging a higher standard for sequels and really utilising the tool that is online gaming. Smallware games have been given a larger platform to launch from with PSN, wiiware and xbla, and generally I think it's an exciting time to be a gamer. One question we've not considered; having three big console manufacturers, admittedly for the third time, has really driven each one to consider their role and play to it. AND STUFF> WORDS ASOFHOSIFH

Thanks danny. Thanks.
