  1. (Dammit guys! As I said in the other thread I acknowledge there's an issue at hand here but just because you've been asked not to push it in there doesn't mean you should come do it here! I don't mod here(yet, but if you keep this up I'll ask for it!) and the good-natured humour is a fair relief for you with the last day or two but please still be mindful of yourselves. It's quite clear when you're trying to have a dig so just ask yourself next time before hitting the button - is posting that going to make things better or worse for the forum?) Tbh this was more my original expectation of the NX, and though I've gone more to the rumours King_V posted in the other thread being true of it being more of a portable first with a dongle, I'd quite like the idea of having a machine that's maybe a bit more beast at home/in dock mode but still good enough to run as a handheld. The one thing I *don't* want - a gimped handheld experience. I want to have a full choice for the game I'm playing whether it's on the go or on the TV and the essential experience not being different between the two. I don't mind if they do specific home/handheld things that functionally make sense, but I don't want to feel like something's gotta give for the handheld experience except maybe graphics. EDIT: Just thinking thought @kav82 - if it IS a single system rather than two parts; it means you could have voice chat/online on the handheld wherever you are, surely? Ofc I've already said I'd like a robust online system on par with the competition - I'd not mind forgoing the functionality on the handheld portion IF we get it at home with the dock BUT the idea of a handheld with the same full capabilities on the go are interesting to consider too!
  2. I'm already late to a thing - but can we keep it civil and NX/at least gaming related please and not about forum issues? I acknowledge there's an issue here but I don't want to see this thread in a day or two just full up with that. PM/visitor wall me for now and I'll get to it when I can. Admittedly I'm close to PM limit too but if you can't send a message just save it and write on my wall to say you wanna PM me.
  3. Again - what if their current/recent strategies(ie the Wii U) are already causing damage in the long run? I feel like legacies are too often overlooked when it comes to people looking at/discussing new systems. The reason they've got the uphill isn't just the NX being a new product, it's also to do with the foundations laid for it by what's come before. What a delighfully well constructed counter-argument there. Seriously, I'd have thought you'd have learn to elaborate in your posts after the recent issue. Exactly WHY wouldn't it work? Again I know we're not representative but just look at how many people here started with a Wii U then later got a PS4 because they just weren't getting enough of their gaming fix. You think they'd have bothered moving on to PS4 if they were getting all those experiences plus what they were getting on their Wii U??
  4. For me it's gotta be; Brawl - whilst I loved and macked out both the original(even though I didn't own it) and the GC version(launch title for my GC) it was probably Brawl that really really did it for me. I didn't think anything could match nor top Melee, but Brawl really did just about manage it. Obvs I understand the varying appreciations from the more competitive sides but Brawl was the game that I both really looked forward to, but also the game that brought me and three of my now best friends together to be 4 Smash Brothers. Whilst I was friends with them all already, it brought them together with each other and probably really helped solidify another one of my current best-friendships to date. Party(the original) - my sister bought this whilst she was at uni for her own(later adopted to the family one) N64 - we/I had some really good times with this game when she was back at home. Really really enjoyed it at the time. Wore off most of my palms after a while though. Kart - Maybe MKDS for WifiKarts/league/pre-cursor to me joining this place(always have to put a shout out to @Charlie for that) - otherwise on the local experience etc there was something fresh but still frantic about double-dash that we enjoyed on many occasion; though nothing will ever match MK64's battle mode on the whole for me. Sports - wasn't in original spec but seeing as Cube mentioned it I'll probably go for the same title as I believe it's the only Mario sports game I ever purchased/played - Mario Strikers Charged. Never been a big footie fan(don't dislike it, just only bother a little bit at national stuff) but I enjoyed Strikers after playing at a mates, and finding it was a beautiful combination between both the beautiful game itself, but also at the same time still being absolutely Mario in its whole design.
  5. Could the same not be(as Ashley's touched on) applied to the Wii U and if yes, then why does it not actually feel as if that was just fine?
  6. Always interested in stuff like this Kav! How old are the kids? Do you know why they wanted to play? Do you know why they actually preferred the stuff they went back to? One thing I'd be really interested in is where/how their gaming path started and what their favourite games might be. Ofc this is just if you know, no need to go interviewing your other half's kids lol. (Even as I started reading your post I was gonna ask why does Nintendo appeal to them - assuming it wasn't going to end as it did. Maybe I'm just as bad as them assuming the appeal will be to kids)
  7. Definitely agree. They need to play safe and just take a hit, to get themselves built back up to a point. They had tons in the coffers from the Wii - and they probably blew such a chunk of it on the WiiU - playing wild hoping to repeat the flash in the pan that the Wii was. They got cocky and they paid a price. Hell, they still to date imo haven't even supported their own product the Wii U with enough of the asymmetrical gaming experiences that I felt they really promised for it's approach as a system. I'm not sure marketing to casuals is the thing though. Ongoing 3DS owners, maybe. Casuals, not so much. Many casuals have moved on from Wii/DS to mobile etc; they don't strike me(if they're truly casual) to drop dime on a gaming system and the price that the games come in at for it. Ofc if they captured that market before with the DS they may manage to capture it again if they do it absolutely right, but I just think with the state of everything right now less people than we think might come back.
  8. Well you were saying how he's pretty old....
  9. Hero-of-Time, but not the mornings :p? Got super de ja vu/confused reading your post right after liger's! I'm absolutely in agreement on the price though(said a few times already) - they can't possibly expect to exceed the competition prices without having some very good selling point. For me atm that'd be the handheld/home console 2-for-1 nature but I just don't have faith in them to manage to get that point across well enough given the majority of their marketing in the last two consoles.
  10. Would prefer to have new content than remasters but a lot of the top part of that list is very interesting!
  11. Imo they wanna not break a fiver. There's something about something being less than a fiver that gives it a slight edge in people's minds I think. 'Ah well it isn't even a fiver' that sort of thing - I'd say £3-£4 is actually a really nice pricing point for it that I think'll get a good balance of sales to the price.
  12. Damn it, at first I hadn't seen the 'not' in your posts and I was going to say that I also heard it at GAME...
  13. Resorting to name calling like that does nothing to help it either, but I can't deal with this too much right now. Next time get in touch with a mod etc if you've got an issue. I've edited the posts which is about as much as I can do right now, points made and seen. Now let's carry on and keep it civil please. For you, I'll say that you'd do well to learn your lesson and not let it happen again; you can't behave like that then just cry 'oh noes im sorry' every time you get called out. I'm sure some would agree that this isn't exactly new behaviour. Besides which it wasn't even just one post - you repeatedly did it in the face of other people's posts. You've either got to be seriously clueless, or seriously arrogant - take your pick. --------------------------------- Hell, you haven't even made it the whole bloody week either, and now because everyone's made it so serious and you've already backpeddalled I don't even get the joy of telling you how wrong you might be too. Fun totally ruined. If anything does come this week and you dare to smug about it after, I'm personally letting the (civil) fury of the thread have you like a piece of meat to the (relatively civil) sharks. Think maybe Nemo/Dory level of Sharks. Those are the kind of sharks I would like the rest of you to try and be.
  14. I see. It's certainly starting to ramp up - died twice earlier though can't really think why(wasn't giving play my full thought arguably). Does it matter what kind of egg you use to boost what kind of monster? I got some sort of HP bonus for a boost earlier and I presumed it was just a bit random but haven't really got enough to play about with to tell. Also so far I've tended to come across all side-questy items I needed in a silver chest or so as I played through, but I'm sure I've somehow missed one for a guy and I can't figure out how that happened. Will look into it in a bit more detail next time I go back to town and actually remember to do so. Slightly regretting all my dragon evolutionary choices now too - didn't give their specials much consideration and they're basically just type boosts; not really all that when you're playing with a balanced team and feel it isn't worth the SP -.-
  15. It's sounding to me as if this might be cracking enough in its writing etc to really keep up with the series. The writing/humour has always been the absolute pinnacle of all Mario RPG based games imo - absolute definition of tongue-in-cheek on Nintendo systems. I felt it was a bit weaker in Dream Team(the game on the whole felt a bit longed out and I gave up) but this seems to go back to what I'd expect of it all. Still...I do feel like it's not something I'd want to drop more than £20-25ish on, which I feel bad about. I must admit I'm generally fussy/miserly when it comes to gaming experiences, but considering how reluctant I am to use my Wii U now it's just got to be at a lesser price for me. As much as I loved Sticker Star it was helped by being portable, the idea of sitting down at home to play this or something else kinda knocks me; though that's why I'm particularly excited about NX if it's fully realised as a hybrid as I think it'd get me playing stuff a bit more really. I've still got lots of unplayed Wii U games to go - maybe I'll try and pick this up for a go at some point if the price comes down.
  16. Why, that may be extreme enough in combination with my previous post for you, Ronnie, to admit that even I might be right sometimes
  17. With the lack of anything, I'm starting to wonder if we could actually make a boat that provides a better experience for gaming fans than Nintendo are at this moment.
  18. Yeah it ramped slightly as I continued after that post(doh!) but it's still not an exceptional challenge...yet. I haven't gone too deep down the stats etc - I'm mostly attempting to go for elemental advantage/balance, high attack, and leader skills that lend themselves to that too(for leader and helper, currently using an earth knight leader that boosts dragons, and stuck the dark, fire, water dragons in alongside some healing light animal thingy, think called Kururu?). Need to get my head around this egg thingy too - I'm presuming the thing to do is hatch all ??? eggs but then use all eggs after than to boost monsters? Are there any secret egg combinations/types I should be aware of being better than others(maybe spoiler a response though, not sure if I want to know know yet)?
  19. Did you read JBS's review on the main site? Tbh from that and what I've seen of the videos etc I'd take it that if you were a Sticker Star fan then this is probably not a bad punt at all. Not played it to give a fully informed comment though, but I imagine if you liked SS this would be good enough to tick the boxes too.
  20. So I've cracked on a bit - gone with P&DZ as advised and not touched Mario yet. Can't say I'm feeling terribly challenged so far(died once in a special rune dungeon thingy) - think I just defeated the first big big boss thing otherwise. I haven't gone too heavy on DEF - though tbh I've always been a bit more offensive/recovery based than defensive so I'm quite happy seeing that sort of balance of option of the two so far. Some of the story/writing is fun, some very basic and pun based jokes but I'm a sucker for that so it's all good to me lol. Its Match 3 nature in that it isn't straight swaps is kinda cool and interesting, adds a little extra layer of depth/thought to it that I'm enjoying as I work out new things/tricks. It does sometimes feel kinda blind-luck-esque too though(not that I'm complaining). Need to get my head around the levelling/upgrading a little bit more - just unlocked the third machine in the base but not played with it yet; might give me a few new thoughts to consider!
  21. You seem to pose this argument regularly - but I don't think it holds. If you ask me, even though I played it much later than when it came out, Super Mario RPG was actually pretty graphically stunning for what it was when it was imo. However - does that mean you'd still take a game in that visual style now? What if there's something that looks MORE fantastic? What if there was something that looked MORE fantastic at the time? Very little of any of this is really as static as you seem to think. Or maybe it is and you should just go buy a Gameboy and SML or something, iono. It was amazing at its time, right? Why bother to ever push any harder? Absolutely agree. Nobody's really trying to say Nintendo have super shit visuals or capabilities as far as I take it - but just that they ARE arguably behind the competition. Now, if you're manufacturing a game and go multi-platform and you develop with a certain level of graphical fidelity easily achievable on Xbox or PS, yet it's not as easily achievable on the Nintendo system - that's a barrier. Maybe it's not related to the raw power of the Nintendo system, or higher achievable power squeezing out efficiencies, but maybe it's just difficult in its architecture and design that porting the code is tricky. Obviously if it ISN'T up to scratch on the visual fidelity capabilities due to hardware, it's for a different reason but it's still the same barrier in essence. That's the sort of thing that then causes problems(apply the same to online systems rather than graphical capabilities, if you wish, and maybe even then beyond!).
  22. I've actually heard it's quite a large passenger ship capable of carrying equal to if not even possibly more than its competition's number of passengers for some pretty impressive feats, but it actually also has a smaller speedboat attached to it that you can use for smaller journeys out and about. Of course it all depends on how well they maximise their use of space to really get the most out of it and to also consider whether or not passengers really want to take a trip on it. All very tricky territory really. On the subject of ports though I heard that it is very likely to be dockable either way at least.
  23. Hmm. Wasn't something I was considering necessarily just kept thinking recently with the 3DS one out why there was never one on the Wii U as surely Mario Party was a perfect fit for gamepad usage - then I realised it did exist and wondered why I never heard its gamepad usage talked about on the same level as that of some of the Nintendoland games!
  24. I'd say they certainly sold it to me, though maybe I was a sucker for them at the time. The most disappointing thing is that I just did not feel as if they subsequently supported it with similar to the promises they made WHEN they sold it to me.
