HOLY SMEG!! Red Dwarf series XI AND XII announced! (2016-2017)
Rummy replied to Dcubed's topic in General Chit Chat
I watched it, was ok. Not the greatest, maybe not the worst. I don't think I kept up properly with the last series, and there's definitely signs of age there; but it wasn't terrible. They went with an idea for the episode and really ran with it as Dwarf does - just wasn't entirely my cup of tea. Got a few chuckles at least. I was more excited for the two older episodes after it tbh :p -
Well I do have to agree that's somewhat re-assuring, but I still really struggle to believe it will come to fruition as envisioned just because I feel there's been such letdown in the past. In the positive though I think having had Ubisoft/Yves involved so much with Wii U when it was coming it gives a lot more weighting to his words, I just hope it's going to turn out true and good for us - this console could be more powerful than a PS4 and XBone put together, but if the online infrastructure isn't there to an acceptable level I probably wouldn't even touch it with a stick. I foresee the only exception to that for me is if it's absolutely banging as a handheld with a decent amount of content on it. Meanwhile, in other news...
-
Oh yeah, I mean it's possibly quite good but it's just so much of an echo of the Wii U - moreso really because it's Ubisoft again(v.enthusiastic about it, as already mentioned by others, aiming to support etc). I could probably tell you the same things they're telling you - but will it really count for anything when it all comes down to it? It just all feels a little bit too familiar, but I'm hoping as much as I can that it won't actually end up continuing to be so.
-
Absolutely agree. Make something good enough that it speaks for itself with very little need for exaggeration. I hope in line with the same, as I said before, that they'll be honest and upfront about delays etc. and just tell it like it is, acknowledging the current frustration of the fans.

Thanks @Deathjam that's really useful. I'm away all weekend but I might give this some time in the evenings next week with an OW mixup. The more I stay in and play games the more money I save and the more games I can then buy to play!!

240 or 250? Or did you mean 340/350? Is there any way for me to get 310-320+ gear atm without the RoI expansion and not doing KF raid? As said I'm getting tempted, probs wouldn't for at least a week or two just to get the money together for it as I haven't planned for the spend; got a mate asking if I'll get it and trying to tempt @Frag Grimes back into it too. Whatever happened to @Nintendo Fan too? Me and him were tearing it up a bit just before I stopped playing. EDIT:Godammit I can never rmemebr Ninty K's bloody forum name! I got him!

Coming in standard Rummy for all those who've had/played this on the PS4 - why should I get it? Slightly inspired by Nando's excellent thread about whether gamers have gotten too picky over in General Gaming I started to peruse the cheapest offerings that CEX have on the PS4 at the moment - I've seen that I could actually pick this up for a rather measly £8 pre-owned! The question is - I know little to none about it, so tell me; why, if at all, should I? I presume also on the price level it's a very much 'play once' game with little re-playability maybe outside of trophies?? Doesn't actually bother me as it seems about short enough(8-15 hours on HLTB?) for the price that I'd probably lend it around my local PS4 crew once I'm done(and maybe even make back its cost in pints!). So. Tearaway Unfolded. Why? Why not? Talk to me.
-
Here's my 'worry' as it were - I didn't do KF much and I think my light level was last at 302 - if I get RoI(or hell, even if I don't for a bit) - how much am I going to struggle getting my light level up to levels like you guys atm? I mean 317 to 336 in a day sounds quite a healthy and re-assuring jump; what content's it being done off of? If I can do it off the stuff I haven't touched at all(and cope with such) then I'd be tempted to do that for a week or so then get RoI when I hit maybe a certain LL or something.

To be excited or think anything of this Ubisoft view/statement seems strange to me - this just feels exactly the same as the Wii U did. If anything that naturally actually makes me more worried of seeing history completely repeat itself again and the NX be as much of a flop as the Wii U has been. I'm really hoping it *won't* be the case but I just feel like we've seen Nintendo repeat the same mistakes over and over that it's almost to be expected now :/

I think I had much more limited access to games as a kid - even though I'd get birthday/xmas money I think I was only ever allowed to spend it on one game each time; that kinda forced me to play the crap out of what I had in addition to learning to love them too(even the poor choices made sometimes :p). A lot of my influence back then for what I'd buy tended to be reviews in magazines such as ONM or obvious titles like Mario/Zelda etc. As I've gotten older and gotten more money, I've been able to spend more and buy more - but as peeps here and the video guys mention time has now become a harder to find. I'll tend to only buy games at a good price(still gotta think about money, and saving 5-10 each time can add up eventually!), and if it's a game I'm not sure about I'll usually check with folks here rather than review sites of metacritic etc. The only reviews I tend to put good stock/faith in are the N-Europe ones(and I really like the summary points/scores). Yet despite saying I struggle to find time to play a game - I do find myself not wanting to buy short ones. Like...I feel like I'm not getting my money's worth. It's a silly mentality I know, but one I find it hard to break out from. I'll usually kinda feel like I want at least 10ish hours out of a game. Yet having said that I know I've had great experiences with games like Journey, Portal etc similar to the guys in the vid! So...I guess I'm somewhat a little picky, though not as much as some, and it's potentially going to make me miss out on experiences unless I get some compelling evidence/convincing from someone otherwise. All of this now makes me wanna try and save up some money and go bargain hunting for cracking ol' preowned titles in CEX or something. I recall when I got my 360 there was such a wealth of a back catalogue and some games could be picked up for dirt cheap on Play.com - that gave me some experiences I wouldn't have had otherwise!

Quite surprised by the amount of Sonic fans here! I was always a Mario boy - in fact one of the earlier games I can think of that I was cutting my teeth on was Super Mario Land on my cousin's(and later our own) Gameboy. Then we had a SNES, which we eventually got SMW for - I'd also played SMB3 on holiday or somewhere iirc. Few years later All Stars hit and I got to experience all these old Mario experiences I never actually had had(SMB1, 2, 3 and LL). Cue Yoshi's Island when it came too. SM64, MK64 etc. I was Nintendo through and through until I bought a crystal Xbox back in 2004/05. Never owned anything Sega, but I did get the Sonic Mega Collection on the Xbox....still preferred Mario to it at the end of the day.

If you had to start again, where would you begin?
Rummy replied to nekunando's topic in General Gaming Discussion
I'd probably stick current gen too, as I'd have the memories of all the old games(plus I don't play them) - so I'd go for a PS4 and see it forwards. Nostalgia is very strong and it'd break my heart losing all my old things, but I don't really use them to forge new memories or experiences so it's just holding on for the sake of it really! If I could only have the experience of one console left in my mind...hmm. Maybe the SNES's era. -
I've not used one of those HDMI adapters but my mate has one - I'll ask him his opinion on it and let you know if he gets back to me.

Gah! Just realised yesterday was Sunday and I was actually totally about and should have thought and tried to do the tourney! Too many late nights and frying my brain :p Sadly I'm away this weekend but I'd like it if we could try and enter for at least one - just to see how we go. Can we get anyone interested for the last one? I'm assuming there's another after this Sunday, right?

Obviously that first part is absolutely true - I don't know why this positive/negative thing constantly gets brought up. I think your Pikmin 3 point kinda goes with my points to raise something that I recall came up before - too much franchise fatigue and sequel-itis. You can't have a Pikmin 3 without it immediately being looked at in terms of possibly Pikmin 1 and Pikmin 2 and what they've done, compared to what it's done with itself since. Barring Splatoon and probably Mario Maker for its big flip in approach(plus the unmentioned Nintendoland) - I think the other titles just weren't fresh or revolutionary enough. I know the whole 1st party/2nd party debate comes up time and again - but I really really want them to try and create new experiences for the NX. Whilst delayed, it does look like BotW despite being a Zelda game and running of its name is being designed in a way quite contrary to the series usual approach - and that's exciting! I felt like probably too many of the Wii U's decisions and offerings were 'safe' - built too heavily upon previous games rather than bringing new ideas and designs to the table(one of the biggest selling points of the console, and something I don't feel was truly realised or utilised in the way Nintendoland, a launch title, was). Of course, with the things we've seen so far of rumours and potential approaches - it does seem they're trying to step outside of the comfort zone. I just hope they go far enough, but also remember to get some support with it too - there's a definite arrogance sometimes I feel from Nintendo where they feel they don't need to fully listen to everyone else; I still think Sony used to be the same but they made the PS4 a success by turning that attitude right around and doing their best to be open. If Nintendo are prepared, willing and go through with trying similar - I think they can come out on top again.
-
Do you know, of all the games to miss off the list they made - I'm surprised they left out Nintendoland(lack of online aside) as I still think it's possibly one of the most revolutionary and Wii U-esque games they made. The experience is still one I'm not quite sure you'd see on a games console, probably more like on mobiles/tablets for the asymmetrical experience. Still relevant too - we had quite a laugh* with it at Zell's the night before the meet. (*Maybe not me. I take Mario chase far too much to heart :p) Tbh with the games on the list I was probably pointing fingers not so much at lack of online - because it's been done and is inherent to the system not the games. Smash lost something I can't fully place. Pikmin was lovely and beautiful but its changing to fruits from quirky objects really killed some part of that for me(props to multi-captain multi-tasking, gamepad was good for that too). Mario 3D World was ok but it didn't hold me - maybe lack of local multiplayer opportunities to me now/at the time; or maybe it was a bit too much feeling like SM3DL(which I played fully through, iirc). I actually was about to praise that game when I saw the list - but then realised I confused World for Land! Splatoon as I said, 'online' faults aside, was really quite refreshing even if not directly/fully taking advantage of the WiiU's gamepad setup, and definitely a game of the generation. MK8 for me, was still must too much more of the same old done thing. Mario Maker's wall was very frustrating though - especially as it wasn't entirely clear how to get all the building bits(even tried a 'cheat' guide but it didn't work for me, must have missed something out and just given up at that point). I was actually thinking whilst I made that post - for the newbs who they felt needed a staggered progression on the making side - implement either the literal time/days option(ie takes a week/7 days of play), a buliding usage/time option(i think was the final implementation), but then also offer some sort of playing option too! Either you play X amount of fan-made levels with Y amount of objects in them, or rather more - give the player some classic, but tricky, levels to play through. If I could have chosen - I'd have gladly preferred maybe attempting to play through World 8(or the whole of, with warps ) SMB1 in order to unlock all the tools. Maybe pick a selection of the hardest levels from all the Mario games whose themes are present - any Mario fan worth their salt should surely have beaten them all already, and able to do so again? Would have been a nice touch for the longer-term fans too. Instead, the game rather annoyingly and arrogantly assumed that because I hadn't created any Mario levels in my life(which, coincidentally, I actually have!) that I shouldn't or wouldn't be allowed to use the later tools until I'd done a ton of creating in this game itself. Almost silly in itself, as the way they designed the designer actually gave rise to a fairly acceptable standard for the few short and basic levels I created, I felt. I took more issue later with the content that was actually available, the organisation systems etc. - lots more could have been done there but I didn't feel it let it down as much as this weird content lock on the maker that really got my goat after I'd picked up the game being rather excited. I mean all of this isn't really NX relevant per se - but I feel they need to be mindful of things like these and what gives the games their edges when they move forwards. I don't mind them trying to build games that are friendly to new players - but also consider making games that are also 'friendly'(or maybe even rather unfriendly) to the older and more seasoned players. For something such as Mario that's been such a part of my life for so long, what they did with Mario Maker really let me down for a number of reasons that I felt were due to losing focus on the audiences - which I think is something that's been felt about Nintendo as a whole over the last generation or two.
-
I dunno, I'd have to ask why if they've been such good games for this generation that the majority of them haven't managed to keep me interested past a few hours. The only one I find truly fresh for this generation was probably Splatoon(>100 hours). Even Smash for me didn't live up to its predecessors for reasons I'm still not sure if I can quite place - something was lost between Brawl and 4 I think. I'd say Mario Maker's the next up for mixing things up more than the others(barring Splatoon) but even then the stupid item/tool wall they put in assuming everyone was a Mario noob made me stop caring for the game.
-
Strange question - but is anyone really missing much by not getting on this as soon as it occurred? I've seen it for £30 already but was just thinking I've still got a ton of JC3 to play, and whilst I do want(and will probably prefer playing) this I should probably hold out and get an even better price on it - was just wondering how much I'd really miss out on though. I know obviously there was the whole naming planets thing, but other than that if there any pressing reasons to have had it in the launch window over later on in its life?
-
Don't worry you're still safe brah
-
I still say there's a technical hitch they're trying/hoping to overcome that's a notable barrier and so they've leaked it/let it be leaked to have the info out there whilst allowing them to officially remain silent for now. Iirc Nintendo have a slightly habit of staying quiet or ignoring the things they don't want to talk about - I remember seeing article(s) about how journalists would get shot down relatively quickly in interviews when they got on to topics of online, voice chat etc.
-
I paid my £15 for it, and tbh I was very hesitant but I've probably easily got my money's worth so far - and that's not even compared to how much some of you guys have put into it. I've played a fair few rumble matches now, I enjoy it so far. It's different but still feels the same and I don't mind it at all, different powerups doing different things and sometimes I feel like things are a bit jammy/unfair but really that's kinda rocket league all over anyway. Didn't realised first night I played it(had about 3-4 matches) that it Rumbles into even different arenas kinda like the Rocket Labs style, assumed it was just standard 3v3 plain maps so somewhat pleasantly surprised by the map mixups too. Am wondering about trying to play with friends at some point and see what co-ordination might bring in combination with the power-ups.
-
Damn! You got me!
-
Or what about a friend who could play the games with you? A sort of robot or something? We could call him...S.A.M(simulated artificial mate).
-
It is touches like that that make the series great, just want a bit more of the old school character back. I realise it's more the RPG/Superstars but I found Dream Team a bit droll and repetitive after a while so never got round to finishing it - I do wonder who they'll hide at the presumable end of that white block level, and also whether it'll be completable by both means...
-
Mine sounds a lot like yours, but I recently changed to the Journey theme. Not sure if it'd be different on any other themes. I preferred the black background though.
