I do agree with that, which is why I did say I don't believe the decision should be reversed without another referendum. Outcomewise I'd possibly be tempted to agree with yourself - but would it matter? We gave a vote to everyone who could on this matter; if they've changed their minds since then why not ask why? It won't make any new decisions any less legitimate, but maybe, just maybe, this situation and what they've seen come out of it educated some about the potential outcomes. Pound's holding well though and BoE aren't all doom and gloom. Still take it all with a pinch of salt given the volatility of monetary policy(imo) and that Carney's giving some 'uncertain' answers on what might happen going forward. I think the reality of the Brexit hit/GBP drop just hasn't actually trickled all the way down the the working households as of yet though. I'm not too much of a legal geek but I'm certainly happy with the outcome - as I said it's such a big decision that I don't think it should be taken lightly and I'm glad to see that it still has to properly go through parliament. I do agree with the first part - I think it's very unlikely the government will trigger a snap election without a decent amount of pressure from the opposition though. There's still a lot of shit sticking around Jeremy Corbyn but the fact he's won support again and could turn another election to their favour(even if not to a majority) might put them off. I think any of the people changing their mind on the referendum now seeing what it did to the GBP will be more keen on blaming the current government and switch over with their votes.

Yeah, I don't think it'll stop it(nor do I think it should without another referendum) but it'll hopefully give us some security on the final decision and terms. I've constantly found it strange that such a big decision may be made by just a single party/government. BoE's due to make a report at 12:00pm today anyhow I think - wonder if this will affect anything there. GBP's already gone up a tiny bit, but that probably won't hold after Carney comes out again :p

@Dr\. bob do you like giant guinea pigs too? http://www.aol.com/article/2016/03/31/why-do-capybaras-get-along-so-well-with-literally-every-other-sp/21336403/ (i realise they aren't quite 'pets' but I thought here was a good place for it!)

I hadn't meant for it to become more of an issue! Just wanted to clarify I don't aim to be disparaging about later titles in the series when I personally use the term - they're just different games but I personally prefer the feel of SM64 the most. I didn't get on so much with the more recent titles within the series for various reasons - but my biggest bugbear on the Mario front has kinda been the increasing/forced linearity it takes you down. I realise the irony of it considering Mario is the go-to game of linearity and running from left to right - but even if you consider SMB1 you do have to appreciate Nintendo's genius is putting in the warps and loop puzzles etc. I might make a thread over in General for it, but for now I guess it's ended up here cos we're once again waiting on Switch news! I think whatever happens if I do pick up a Switch I'll end up with Mario Switch too; so it's all academic either way really. Other than Mario and Zelda do we actually have ideas/speculation on what other titles may be launch for the system? I don't think Zelda will necessarily do too much given its WiiU conjunction(except for those who never got a WiiU) but I am curious what else might be there for it and how they could influence sales. I also very much hope they go with a Splatwoon at some point rather than just getting a remake out there - there's a number of irksome flaws in the original that could be tidied up in a remake, but hopefully more so implemented better all round in a proper sequel.

My issue with Sunshine is that it still ushers you down a path towards a shine. It doesn't feel as 'free' or 'unrestricted' as SM64 was. So when I talk about a 'real 3d mario' I kinda take the precedent set by SM64 - though I agree Sunshine's come closest to it and despite ushering you down said corridors, I'd probably consider it more a 'real 3d mario' given the way it's designed. @Jonnas - again, it's you/readers who decide it's snobbish. I don't think it is. I don't intend to use the term in a snobbish way as I explain. Sure, talking just about '3D games' won't apply to it, but we're focusing on the phrase as a whole as 'real 3d mario' and not just the sole terms 'real' or 'proper' - I don't use it to refer to as simply a game that is in 3D graphics etc, but that actually feels like it's 3D. The fact some of the games on my list are 2D is also irrelevant - I was simply saying that in the time since SM64 I don't think anything's come back to that 'real 3d mario' feel as it were. I'm not meaning to define the term as if it's definitive, just that I think when people use it they aren't attempting or intending to be snobbish, superior, or derogatory. It's just referring to an aspect of the series that seems to have remained uncaptured since. You can certainly make something look 3D, I'm not denying that. Even the 2D games themselves 'look' 3D of sorts - but they're 2D games as you move from left to right. Sure, the 3D games move you around in three dimensions, but do they feel like they're truly a 3D game, or just a 2D game from a slightly different perspective?

Remember when the General Chit Chat section was always busy?
Rummy replied to Happenstance's topic in General Chit Chat
I blame Brexit. -
But why not? If you consider SM64 compared to later additions to the series the former really does not force you down any path necessarily. It's, almost literally full 3D - you can go in any which way you want, including backwards(yes you can do this in some of the others but I notably think of how in Galaxy you can't always). I believe I've played almost every mainline Mario game since(barring Super Luigi U) and none have felt as free or as '3D' as SM64 did. I don't think people are putting negative connotations on the term and rather that they're being perceived instead. I actually think it's fairly valid a term if you consider however many games that have come afterwards - SMG, SMG2, SM3DL, SM3DW, NSMB, NSMB2, NSMBWii, NSMBWiiU - call those 8, EIGHT, different games - and none have for me come back to the same 'real 3D' feel that SM64 gave me.
-
Personally I think you're over thinking it, and that people seem to use the term to refer to a less restricted setup, more like SM64 or agruably the galaxy games('real 3d marios' but too linear for my liking). There's not denying that SM3DW certainly hasn't the same feel as SM64 or the Galaxy games, surely?

The ads looked interesting but I missed it! Hoping they have it on 4oD - might try and catch it this morning. I'll probably miss the actual first episode tonight as well knowing me, but I'll catch up on that if I need to. Not sure how I feel from having seen the trailers; but the first season was so on point I'm hoping even if this isn't quite as good it'll still be decent. I always worry about follow-ups to big things!

I think the few folks that it happened to had it fix itself spontaneously? No idea what to do to fix it, but in line with Nolan's issue above have you tried a full power cycle/the classic turning it off and on again?

I've been wondering where you were at, Fused! I'm contemplating picking this up in the next month or two(money issues delaying me) so will give my opinion if I manage to get round to playing it/sticking with it then. However knowing you're quite a fan of the series, probably more so than me as I generally like the Mario RPGs all round; I'd say Hero-of-Time's posts so far in the thread have felt closest to my sort of feelings/concerns but I found them reassuring so I'd say to give them a read if you aren't fully up to speed with the thread. You have to ask yourself Fused; could you truly cope with the fact you may actually not play a title from the Paper Mario series? One of your all time favourite series?? I don't think you can really :p Wouldn't even a sub-par Paper Mario already be offering you an experience superior to many other potential games out there?? Ofc, just go in with lower expectations/prepared for what you're going to find and I don't think it should disappoint too much. Then again I think I enjoyed Sticker Star more than you did, so who knows

Basically the only reason why I'd consider getting one :p

Obviously time will tell and we've still got much to see come January, but I honestly don't think there's going to be too much of a stock issue for this right off the bat. Interesting that places are taking and receiving a number of pre-orders but I think that's just a bit more commonplace now - not every one turns into a sale. My biggest concern will be scalpers but hopefully they got burned bad enough with the WiiU that that won't happen too bad this time.
-
Yeah was expecting it somewhat having seen it more lately, and certainly better than something proprietary as it'll be to the USB standard at least. Was just hoping to avoid having to get too many new cables!

Sometimes when I go from the main site(clicking on Forum from there) rather than direct to n.europe.com/forum it doesn't remember me staying logged in. Not sure why it does it but I tend to just re-log-in if it's truly logged me out or just close the tab and type the direct address in the other one. Never bothered me enough to otherwise complain.
-
For people wbho want it like that they'll probably pre-order to gauratnee their stockl. I'm just talking if stock's a bit cautious and someone goes in after release to buy it on a whim(likely to be me) - if you've waited this long I don't think finding it sold out IF you know you could reserve one for the coming days will really affect/lose sales. Ofc the risk is if they really undershoot and demand for some reason goes wild. I worked in GAME when the PS2 slim came out - they really didn't expect it to go as hard as it did(though was also in festive season iirc). We wouldn't let many people pre-order for upcoming stock post release iirc; and had to tell people to just call up and come into the store etc. It was quite a madness, but definitely a good experience for seeing console supply/demand - I'm pretty sure I did in such instance sell an Xbox or two in the PS2's place(and ironically bought one, too) so I sort of contravene my own point in a way; but that was a small proportion of the actual demand.
-
USB-C? Can't say part of me didn't expect it, but I was really hoping they'd go with Micro-B given how common it is.
-
Oic @dazzybee! Tbh anybody manufacturing surely will have some lines set to meet demand if it runs short. I think back to when the ps2 slim came out around Xmas 2004(?) and ran dry almost everywhere, with stock trickling back in slowly. I don't think they prepped for such demand however if Nintendo go in cautious but optimistic with the switch they could address it as it comes. Aim low with a potential preparation to do better and work it from there. Still I don't think this will be an immediate sellout/fly off the shelves sort of product - but I might be entirely missing the good faith of the handheld market in that too.
-
'Have to sell'...for what? Isn't it just their projected expectation? Why would they HAVE to sell anything? Like what's going to be the consequence either way? I mean other than a bust/failed product. Not sure how many people go into business with a new product without a projected expectation of performance - you surely need it to base anything off of? I actually think that if they get the Jan conf nailed in addition to the public hands-on's and the fact the system has a portable aspect to sell itself with via exposure that they could easily exceed 2mil WW by Xmas. As I said previously and in line with the above I think they're hopefully just learning from the Wii U and not going too crazy in their expectations. I think a 2mil figure is fairly solid to balance between supply and demand - and hopefully if they are going conservative they're aware of the need to re-supply as fast as possible. If you go in to a shop to buy a Switch and get told it's only 2-3 days more when you've already waited months surely it won't hurt you too much?
-
As ever, sharing much a sentiment with you man. I've already been considering the whole 'its a home console' thing more a piece of marketing than their actual vision; to now say they're worried that allowing static actual home console implementations will confuse their message totally goes against that for me. I just don't feel like I can fully trust the message they try to put out and what they say; and that's why I'm probably going to continue to be somewhat apprehensive and sceptical about this machine until I see far far more about it. I want to be leaf, but I just don't think the faith is in me any more

Do Nintendo now exist outside console generations?
Rummy replied to Retro_Link's topic in Nintendo Gaming
So I'm just gonna leave that here in the middle of an argument that pretty much looks to me that you're actually 'arguing' the same point -
Loved the idea of Costume Quest - but could never play it well on my bloody PC! Glad to see CQ2 come as a Plus game as I might actually manage to play it through like this! Is it still Halloween themed(literally know nothing about it)? Woulda made more sense to have been just this month gone if halloweeny, but not gonna complain nonetheless. Not fussed about anything else though.
-
Yep definitely seems interesting. Also are these generally supposed to be wired with the cables showing at the top? Expected that Wireless pads wouldn't have cables showing really(unless it can do both, I guess?). I've already got 2 pads for my PS4 which is kinda enough as local experiences are few and far between(both for the console and general life tings) and when it comes down to really needing another I can usually find someone to bring an extra pad. Would def consider getting a 3rd party one depending on the price though - £15-30ish would be about right for me depending on the feels.

Very much with Flink on this. I can wait til January and tbh I'm glad to have a date so I can stop thinking/worrying about every little bit of it knowing that new stuff's coming. Also don't particularly care what they call it for the ultimate ends - home console, handheld, hybrid; whatevs - the functionality doesn't change. The only reason it bothers me is if it's for marketing reasons or they're trying to play an angle due to limitations. Now though I'm fairly happy - I've seen the 3 minute vid, know a little about it, and know that we'll get more info in a few months. No point bothering myself with too much worry until then, though ofc I'll still be on here discussing and speculating :p
-
Yep pure speculation on my part as @Ashley said - we won't be getting details like that until closer to/at the time I imagine. Just thinking though if you're gonna do a london event where would you go now? The Wii was at Bluewater(and I'd prefer if Switch was too) but that was before Stratford Westfield existed, I've noticed since that one or two national eventy things have taken Stratford Westfield as their location; whereas I think Oxford Street or Bluewater tended to be more common previously. I'm honestly hoping they throw a lot of budget behind this and do all 3. If they do a Bluewater date I can think of at least 5 people who'd be interested in coming along with me as it's just down the road; we're much less likely to do the same for Stratford(tho I probs would).
