General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion
Kaepora_Gaebora replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in General Gaming Discussion
That good news, just Xbox then 😂 42% have the Into the deep achievement on Xbox, just checked. Also, I have that one, does that mean I'm fighting high rank monsters, then? Genuinely thought I was still waiting for that to happen, just about to fight Zorah for the second time. -
General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion
Kaepora_Gaebora replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in General Gaming Discussion
And Xbox had a strong showing as well, the games industry is buzzing at the moment, everyone doing well! So impressed with how Capcom have handled the MH release, a month on and it's still the biggest game to have released this year and hoovering up sales from people champing at the bit for something new to play after Xmas. I mentioned in the specific thread about the % of an early achievement people had completed, and I looked into more of them and some of it is shocking, honestly it seems barely half the people who have it have progressed very far at all. I guess the game isn't like Destiny or PUBG/Fortnite where it relies on concurrent players, but hopefully the player base won't drop off compared to how many units it's shifted. -
Yeah very true, although we've had two monsters on screen at the same time since 3U (perhaps before, that's as far back as I go) so I'm sure it could be done. Anyway just to clarify myself incase any one thinks I'm utterly loopy, yes there would have to be significant scale backs for it to work on Switch, I'm not disputing that, but I mean that I don't feel like the mechanics of it couldn't be done. Ultimately it won't, and if it does happen we'll get a Switch specific one I'm sure, so it's all conjecture anyway

Well, each to their own and all that it does look nice, don't get me wrong, but nothing out of this world, playing on a One S and with a 4K TV myself. I imagine it was optimised with PS4 Pro in mind though, so I imagine that's where the real money is! And if course, it would have to be graphically scaled back to be on Switch, but that rarely comes into my thinking so apologies for not making that clear! I've come across this a few times, but obviously the areas are still divided up into numbers even though it's all "Open", and yet if a Monster isn't supposed to leave a certain numbered area yet, it still gets stuck in the exit area and won't fully move on until it's supposed to. I guess I'm just disappointed in constraints like that and the large loading times as well, wasn't expecting that with the promise of next gen capabilities. Ultimately though that is nitpicking as I'm having an absolute blast with it so far

The SOS mechanic in this is brilliant; it turns what were mundane single player quests in past games into a thrilling encounter in the blink of an eye! Up to HR7 now but been doing most of the optional quests as well, maybe about 12 hours in, and really enjoying myself with it. Again, apart from the SOS flare, I'm not sure I'm seeing anything yet that proves this couldn't have been on Switch mechanics wise, but then they seem to have stripped out alot of ore/plant farming (which I don't like but I can see why) so perhaps the early grind isn't as bad as before. Also, when doing these flare quests, not once have I used voice chat to take a beast down; we all just get on with it. It's over rated, @Kav...

I'm a fan of neither team, but imagine if Mourinho had behaved like Guardiola last night; he'd probably have been banned for the rest of the season! Or even Conte or Wenger. As it is, not only has it been treated fairly tamely, his hypocrisy at getting upset over Delph's sending off despite being very vocal about bad challenges needing to get punished is ridiculous too.

So after getting a new job sorted, I kept my promise to myself and finally picked this up, trading in a few games too so I didn't pay anything for the actual game itself! Before I start rambling, I'm definitely enjoying myself with it and the experience; I'm about 10 hours in and have just defeated my first Tobi Kadachi. I can't honestly say I've seen or done anything yet that makes me think this is "only achievable on Xbox One", indeed it still feels like Monster Hunter of old; that isn't a bad thing of course, I love the games, but I was expecting the wheel to have been reshaped slightly more than what it has, it just feels like the 3DS games with a bit more scope and prettier graphics, so far. Even then, the graphics aren't incredible. Lovely vistas but nothing stand out IMO. I've enjoyed the online systems so far, having played with randoms and getting success with every SOS flare I've either sent out or answered. One epic moment was during the Tobi Kadachi fight when two of us were going at him, and then two other hunters finally showed up and we all layed into the poor thing! So far, so good! Again, nothing exceptional that I was hoping for/expecting with it being this "brand new" MH game, but it's nice to get back into something I know I'll enjoy. I do wish it was on the Switch to do all the grinding bits like mining etc, so that when it cones to big quests I am already ready and don't have to spend precious time doing that at home, but I may be in the minority there Also an odd statistic I saw today; so I unlocked the first capture achievement today, one of the really early optional quests you can do. When I looked at the achievement in my records, it said 50% of players had gained this achievement. 50%?! I know it's Xbox and many may have picked it up on PS4, but still that's atrocious, half of players who have played on Xbox haven't even got as far as a HR2 optional quests showing the basics of how to capture!!

Think I said this in the Xbox One thread, but at the mo I've got the day off work and I'm hoping my parents will have my son; if so I'll be on all day and streaming too, so that's two of us...

I've ordered the Official Lore book that's releasing on launch day for this; it's written by former N64 magazine writer Paul Davies (think he had long hair back in the day) and, from the official podcasts I've been listening to, it seems like a lot of the content that is hinted at in the game is actually fleshed out in it. Sounds a bit like BOTW in that respect, though rather than find the info buried within the game, you only have to fork out another £25 for it...
-
Aye, still haven't picked Monster Hunter up yet; getting to the stage now where if I do, there's not much point bothering with Sea of Thieves even if it is free. As I've got this far, might wait til Monster Hunter sees a big drop in price before picking it up.

There was ludicrous talk in our house of getting a second Xbox and TV so we could play together in the evenings when the little one is asleep...think that's gone by the way side, likewise though my Mrs was very keen on the game when she saw it and I told her what it's all about. Must be why they like us, couple of roguish pirates such as ourselves...
-
I think crews are limited to four people max (sure I read that somewhere) so wouldn't take much to get a few of us all together...if enough of us owned the game All these I impressions seem to be saying you will have the most fun from it playing with people you know and making stories that way, can but dream! Wouldn't you have to buy an Xbox as well, @Kav?

I think Game pass could be the saving grace for the game, I wonder if Microsoft made the decision through fear themselves or because it'll boost subscriptions? Either way it's worked on me, I think like you say alot of people are a bit unsure just exactly what it'll play like, so being able to try for free /£7.99 for the month will encourage a lot more players to take a chance. I certainly wouldn't be dropping £50 on it at launch. Do you still have an Xbox One? If so think you'll at least try it out?
-
Lots of previews of the game coming out this week; all sounds like it has the potential to be something very, very special. Downsides for me will be currently having no one else planning on picking the game up, and limited voice chat options, especially in the evenings. Still, with my game pass free trial I'll get this on launch and test it out, see if having those limitations spoils/hinders it in any way. Perhaps I'll play the whole game as a lone pirate on purpose! I hope this works for Rare, it's probably got to be their last throw of the dice before they are permanently put in charge of avatars and kinect like games in obscurity forever should it sink.

A two man crack squad at the moment! Any more dinners? My shooting is getting much better now, I'm up to something like 50,000 in EU rankings too, I'm steadily climbing on consistent high placing rather than any wins yet!

Gaming Podcasts: A Thread about Listening to Others
Kaepora_Gaebora replied to Goron_3's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Yeah I googled her after listening to it; she's 22, does a lot of cosplaying and is obviously a big hit in the gaming community; the problem is she's knows it and she's young it, too, so she's getting carried away to the detriment of her own ability and image. -
I tell you what else they've nailed; the release date. They've literally had no competition in terms of that type of game, the whole of January was building up to the release of it and there is still nothing that's come out since MH released to take gamers away from it. Excellent work from Capcom, as a gamble/ throw of the dice, they've nailed it and it's great to see it's paid off for them!

Gaming Podcasts: A Thread about Listening to Others

Finally tuned into IGN's Podcast Unlocked for the first time yesterday, dove straight into the latest episode... Alannah Pearce. Constantly butting in on questions other people have been asked, gets annoyed if anyone does the same to her and, perhaps worst of all, clearly likes the sound of her own voice to much and thinks her opinion is THE opinion. The others had a nice, easy going vibe with each other and the listeners, but the longer it went on, the more annoyed I got with her. -
I think if they can pump out "delighted to announce X million players have sailed the seas since launch" and other such statistical headlines then it'll be a success for them; if we don't hear anything like that, then Sea of Thieves/Rare could be in big trouble. It'll have a job competing with PUBG and Fortnite though, sad to see MHW already falling back in streaming stats, if SOT has enough content and excitement to break into that side of things it'll be a home run for them. Still got my 14 day free pass, so I'll use that on SOT launch to see how it plays, hopefully be streaming it all day too if anyone fancies seeing what it's all about (nothing like a 32 year old man asking his parents to baby sit because he wants to play a new game for the day to make you feel pathetic...)

As soon as I get top 10 my heart starts going, never known a game like it! Nice tactics, time I got to number 2 I didn't see the other guy at all, I'd been quite lucky getting that far as is. Broke in to the top 100,000 when I stopped tonight, had a few decent runs but tiredness kicked in and went to pot!
-
Amazing!! Nice one, how did you score the final kill? I've had a #13 and a #12 tonight before making some daft decisions and letting it slip a little
-
The game has had a decent start on Switch, spoke with the creative director about it here: http://n-europe.com/news/furi-sales-exceed-expectations-at-launch-on-switch-for-developers-the-game-bakers
-
I do! I'll be back on again tonight and add you then, AnimalOfAnarchy is it? Mine is Stankind, in case you're not sure who the random is! I probably won't get to voice chat if you ever wanted to play online together apart from Monday and Friday day times at the mo, could stream us arsing around! Not tried it for it yet but I can always WhatsApp tactics etc in the evening when my lad is asleep, although not practical for a gun fight Should hopefully be breaking into the top 100,000 tonight if I have a good run
-
I actually think they've been very clever adding it on game preview; I think it wasn't initially going to be, but they saw the state it was running in so put it on that to almost get away with it being a bit ropey and get it out for Xmas! I've had a few bugs, literally just now I parked my Uasz up in a hidden environment, not realising there was a metal pole next to the driver's side. Got out and was stuck next to it, got back in the car to drive off but managed to sit in the back seat, got out again and then "fell to my death", frustrating as had a decent weapon set and vehicle too! Straight back into it though
-
Funnily enough I was thinking of posting something about this in the One thread, picked it up myself! Managed to get it for £17.99 from CDKeys; initially I could see why people enjoyed it but perhaps thought I'd get tired of it...not a chance! I almost can't explain why because the game is, in essence, so very simple, yet it's also very very effective and very addictive, I'm really enjoying playing it and the same but new way each go brings is exciting. How close have you got to a chicken dinner? I've had one #2 finish, and a couple of #3 too, top 20 finishes are usually my minimum although depends on how the start goes as I'm not great with the guns yet, using a much more stealthier approach initially. It's also been a good bench mark to show I can play Xbox at night and not wake my lad up (although no voice chat obviously) so might pick up Monster Hunter soon and through my free trial of game pass I'll play Sea of Thieves on launch too I think. Also, I've started broadcasting PUBG through Mixer as well, for myself a little camera and everything! No followers or anything, but as long as I'm having fun, right?!...
