I remember back in the GameCube days I bought Eternal Darkness and Starfox Adventures on the same day (they may have been released on the same day in fact, or perhaps a week apart) either way in the end Starfox suffered as I was playing both every evening until eventually I got fed up of making no progress in either and focussed on one. I said to @nekunando yesterday listening to Podcast Unlocked whenever one of them brings up a game that they love, the other invariably say "I played a couple of hours of it, enjoyed it, meaning to get back to it..." Fair enough they probably have a lot of games on their plates, but still I agree with you, how can you form judgement or, even, enjoy a game after only a few hours? I get "parking games" like me with Yooka on Switch; I've played 16 odd hours I think, 90 Pagies so not quite seen the final boss yet, but I've enjoyed it and will go back to it and feel I've played enough to know I'll enjoy finishing it off eventually. In OOT you'd probably just have got to the Great Deku Tree in an hour or so (first time); that's barely scratched the surface. To go back to Lucky, it actually felt like a good fit for me, baring in mind what we spoke about in the MH thread last week; short, snappyish levels and worlds, more to do if you want it and a good feeling of progression already.

Back to the positivity in this thread... So i activated my game pass trial last night, with a week to go before Sea of Thieves. Also fancied a go on a few of the games on there already, starting with Super Lucky's Tale...consider me a fan like @Aneres11 and @Josh64! It has its limitations, a few bugs here and there, and I'm not sure how I would have felt having paid £20 for it...but I've really enjoyed the atmosphere its created so far! In my head this is what I imagine Conker 64 would have been before it became Bad Fur Day. I wouldn't say it does anything particularly original, but it is full of joy and I've just finished off the first two worlds this morning. Hoping to get it finished tonight when my lad is asleep again, providing it carries on the same trajectory of level lay outs. Like MH on Xbox though, the achievements give a way just how much people have played the game; I got a rare achievement, under 10% of those who have played it...have beaten the second world boss! Shocking statistic.

While I don't deny it would be nice to have some of these features, anything that clogged up the UI being so quick and accessible would be a step backwards from such a slick experience when you boot up. Nightmares about that initial Wii U UI... Saying that, I'd like to see the WiFi connect from sleeping mode alot quicker, feels like it takes a good minute or two to log on; whereas say I can unlock my phone and load up a website (N-E, obviously) straight away

It would either be Metroid 4 or Smash Bros in my opinion...and it's not going to be Metroid! They've had two years of success with having a single game as the "focal point" of their e3 booth, so I'm sure it will happen again and, having now announced Smash and with online launching in Sept (presumably with Smash) it'll almost certainly be that! Again, in my opinion

Smash Bros Switch Roster Prediction Competition
Kaepora_Gaebora replied to Glen-i's topic in Nintendo Gaming
@Mandalore Ricky Winterborn is a great shout, I'd love to see him in there to tie in with a revival of Wave Race/1080! Would it be feasible to include a Rocket League car as a fighter? Assist trophy yes...fighter? What with Microsoft being fairly open with Minecraft/their IP's, would be great to see something from Minecraft or, the dream, finally Banjo and Kazooie. Cartman from South Park? None of that is likely, so I'll play it safer and say we should definitely see Crash Bandicoot now. -
Hadn't taken part in a splatfest for so long, I'd forgotten just how cool that night time setting is and the buzz around Inkopolis!

Kaepora_Gaebora replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
The news you've all (read: no one) been waiting for... Technology permitting, I'll be live tweeting the direct tonight, logging on around 9:55! Join me if you want to witness my descent into a tired madness, join in the conversation with me, just read what I'm posting or...just do your own thing. But company would be nice... Edit: I should have noted that'll I'll be doing this from the official N-Europe Twitter account, not my own one. I have some standards... -

Liam Robertson seems to be suggesting Odyssey DLC will be announced, and the same guys who broke it are hinting something Fortnite related could be shown off too -

Turns out Marcus Sellars didn't break this, it was a Twitter handle called "Vandal Games" who also said the main reveal for this will be the new Fire Emblem Switch game. -

Do you register through the Switch, with the game card in the console? -
Despite my own misgivings about the game, that truly is great news for the series, well done Capcom!

Mario + Rabbids sold over 1 million and was number 1, again according to this podcast. From what I could tell, this is just physical versions as well -
Nintendo Switch: One Year Later
Kaepora_Gaebora replied to Falcon_BlizZACK's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Just listened to that NVC special; agree with the comments on Filip, sadly, he may as well not be there. Interestingly he said that FIFA 18 is the 2nd biggest selling 3rd party game on Switch, shifting over 500,000 copies world wide. Not sure how well known that figure is, but first time I'd heard it. -
Another scale test this weekend, started 15 minutes ago and ends on Sunday morning. Not sure I'll go back in as it's just the same as last few ones...I don't want to "spoil" the game when it comes out by having done too much in a mode where it won't carry over. Hopefully we get a full beta before it releases!

For 4 I played with Lance I initially and then started using the bow for some quests as well, and in Generations I completely mixed it up and used the switch axe too; although I'm not sure if that didn't help in terms of going off it. Went back to the Lance for this one, partly because of familiarity and knowing I'd be able to get into it straight away, and partly because I watched an interview where two of the creators said they both always used the same weapon in every entry (one of them being the Lance), so I thought no shame in that!

No disrespect taken, in fact I think you're probably spot on there, my life is completely different now and this game needs a big commitment time and effort wise to make real head way into it. Perhaps it's just the franchise itself now, as I did have Generations on 3DS but lost some desire; I think Switch would have definetly made it easier and if we get a Switch game over here I'll almost certainly try it to see, but perhaps the grind isn't for me any more. Yesterday I had a bit of time to play it but couldn't get up for it; scoured my previous games with gold purchases and saw I am Alive sat in my list, so thought I'd fire that up as I'd never played it back in the day. Now I'm in no way suggesting that it's a better game than MH, but in terms of a linear, a to b experience I felt it served me a lot better. Also I think that's why I've enjoyed PUBG so much; it's just 30 mins or so, all starting at the same point, then once it's done it's done and has no bearing on the next game! I've also found the older I'm getting I want fresher experiences, so as I say perhaps I've simply had my fill of MH and will just remember 3 and 4 as some of my favourite ever games and leave it at that Ah well, I'm glad to have experienced this new MH, and I'll give it a day or two and hopefully get back up for it, not ruling out completely yet!

Having a bit of a wobble over MH at the moment. Got myself up to HR12 after about 30 hours of play and it's just...not doing much for me in terms of motivation to crack on and break through the rank barrier. I was disappointed with the monster reveal after hunting down some ??? Tracks; I'd heard the monster variety wasn't great but I feel like even some of the "new" monsters are regurgitated from different ones in the series past, sharing moves and abilities just under a different skin. It's still not doing enough new things for me overall to think this upgrade was worth it. Perhaps it's the realisation that the grind is very real again, I don't know, but I don't feel that same desire to I once did. It's perhaps just the series as a whole; I thought I was disappointed with Generations because they over did the amount of quests, but maybe it's just because after 400+ hours on 3 and 300+ on 4...I've had my MH fill. Torn between getting as much money back as possible and trading in now, or at least doing the game it's full service before I pass full judgement and getting to the campaign "end" at least.

So I've had three decent play sessions on this over the weekend, and I've enjoyed every minute of it. The lack of hand holding, in this day and age, feels completely alien but also suits the nature of this game down to a tee. You are free to sail the seas however you see fit and learning things yourself helps them "stick" alot better than a tutorial video or explanation, although it wouldn't work in every game. The beta test was limited in terms of the voyages you could go on, it was all gold/treasure chest locating and digging up. But as well as being a scale test for Rare themselves, it certainly felt like a trial for me as well, getting me used to sailing the seas and how to operate the ship. I played alone on all my voyages; I can see why this game could be amazing with 4 friends but, having been more a single player campaign type player since the days of getting 007 level editor mode on GoldenEye yet being unable to compete in multiplayer, I really enjoyed running the ship myself and having these sea voyages on my own. Whether the sun was beaming onto a calm water as I sailed to my next location, or I had dropped anchor mid storm and was desperately patching holes in the hull and shipping water out from the lower deck to stop myself and my 5 chests sinking, it was a surprisingly fun solo experience. That being said, I imagine some epic four crew adventures would be even better, everyone has their job on the boat, one man waiting behind while the others gather the loot...could be lots of fun! More content is needed but not only was this beta, I'm generally a positive person and I imagine Rare have plenty up their sleeves in terms of what will be available at launch and beyond. Speaking of Rare, everything from the music to the characters to the design absolutely reeks of them; I thought most of the old team would have left (in fact I'm sure they have...) But it has that unmistakable Rare feel to it. Hopefully the final game has that unmistakable Rare quality we have been used to in the past.

Yeah I went on the official forums, as I'm on my own I didn't realise I still had to vote to do a voyage!! Just done the basic one now What are your thoughts on the game? I feel like it has potential to be incredible, yes I got stuck working out a quest 😂 however the lack of hand holding and having to study and work out maps yourself is an absolute breath of fresh air, I love it!

Cobbled together an article about Fortnite, PUBG and battle royale games potentially being on Switch...if you fancy a weekend read here's the link! http://www.n-europe.com/features/fortnite-or-playerunknowns-battlegrounds-on-switch-could-be-the-perfect-entry-to-the-new-online-services

I could potentially be on later this evening (currently on now but heading out at 11) so that could be good fun if we can get on, won't be able to chat though Have you played much at all? I'm having fun but...I can't work out how to complete a voyage, or even clues as to where I even need to start! I've just been finding washed up bottles and finding treasure from that, so if you have any idea let me know! 😂

If anyone is bored witless this Friday evening I'm going to stream abit of the scale test going on here: https://mixer.com/Jonsense No video or audio tonight as my son's just nodded off, but if you want to see the game in action tune in!
