We had our 9 year anniversary yesterday! Celebrated by going to our favourite Indian restaurant down here and overdosed on starters. The meat samosas are just so fucking goooood. Peshwari naan was perfect too and one of the best that I've ever had. Those samosas though...mmm. Next year is the big one, though. Might need to do something a bit more special for that.

I think there's something to be said for the potential of achievements to encourage players to keep playing, or maybe play in a different way during the game. They might be inclined to give up, but then feel an achievement is in sight (if they know what they are in advance) and go for that. They may not finish the game, but they may get more gameplay out of it. I know I have done before.

As far as unmentioned shooters on Switch go, I'd give a shout out to Shock Troopers 1 & 2 and Strikers 1945. I think the rest of the good ones have all been mentioned (and yes, they're all well worth your time! Especially the Metal Slug games! )

Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap is still the eShop game that stands out for me. The quality is up there with anything. Metal Slug is the Neo Geo series I keep returning to. Truly brilliant. I'd recommend playing them in order - get the 2nd if you still want more after the 1st, and the 3rd if you want more after the 2nd, but be aware that the yet-to-be released Metal Slug X is considered a superior remix of 2. Shock Troopers is well worth a blast. Aero Fighters 2 is my pick of the genre you were asking about - it's easy to play, with no real negative side. Blazing Star plays OK, but I personally don't like pre-rendered visuals, and Alpha Mission II is not bad but has an overly complex power-up system. I've not played Last Resort but heard you have to start each level from the beginning if you fail. Also keep an eye out for Sine Mora EX and Earth Atlantis, which both look promising.

A developer behind the upcoming Nintendo Switch indie Lichtspeer might have just let it slip that Nintendo are working on an achievements system for the Switch. I think the inclusion of an achievements system would be huge for a home/portable hybrid, and it would certainly give players more incentive to play through games again or push on further. Then again, I personally think it would be better to add achievements to games post-completion so that players enjoy the game at face value the first time around, adding to the replayability of each game. Yeah, we went to look at ours twice, too. Seems a sensible thing to do and plus you get a good feel for what sort of improvements you need to do to it and can total that up in your head. We knew that the carpets needed to go and that it definitely needed modernising in lots of areas. Essentially, you're buying a frame or layout. Virtually nothing in this house is the same now! The walls were papered and painted, the carpets ripped up and replaced by laminate flooring, the furniture is all ours and new, the plugs were all converted from singles to doubles, the light switches were replaced and quite a fair bit more than that, too. It's already a far superior house than the one we bought.

I've just this minute finished the campaign. Loved it. It's exactly what I wanted from the first game. At times it honestly felt like I was playing through one of the Bungie Halo games, specifically Halo 3. Brilliant stuff.

Well, Splatfest is a 24 hour event where Splatoon 2 players play Turf Wars (Competition to cover the most ground in ink) while representing one of two choices (In this case, it's Flight VS Invisibility). To join Splatfest, all you have to do is boot up the game, go through the short tutorial, and get to the Plaza area. You should be able to see a board near the center which will let you decide which side you want to play for. This can be done right now or when Splatfest starts. You then boot the game up on Saturday or Sunday and play some games to try and help your team win. You get some nice rewards if you contribute a lot, even if your team loses. While it's perfectly possible to jump in by yourself and play with randoms, there's a team mode which lets you form a group with 3 of your online friends who chose the same side as you and play matches together. That's what we're trying to organise now. If you've got any other questions, feel free to ask.
