What's everyones favourite out of these two fabulous consoles?

My vote would go to the Mega Drive. Games like Streets of Rage 2, Toe Jam and Earl 2, Sega Soccer (best footie game ever) and all the Sonics made it truly fantastic to me. I love the SNES but the mega drive...*drools*.

Because of games like Sonic 3 (connected with Sonic & Knuckles), Sonic 2, and the original Sonic, the Megadrive gets a huge sum of bonus points. But the Snes had Final Fantasy 6, a RPG I loved. Still, megadrive had Phantasy Star 4 and the Shining Force games, and I loved those as much as the very best Snes rpg games. Mario was ok, but not as great as Sonic. Altered Beast, Gunstar Heroes, Streets of Rage 1-3, golden axe 1-3, Vectorman, Comic Zone, Quackshot and a couple of other games also made the megadrive a super-console.

As for hardware, the Snes had more colors (usually.), but all the sonics, and my favourite rpg games were so beautiful, so I never thought much about that as a kid. The pad however, was much better for the megadrive. (No wonder they had almost the same pad for Saturn.)

Overall, the Snes had no chance against the megadrive to get the attention of a kid named Lars, 16-12 years ago.

I had the Mega Drive, but didn't have many games.. which seems ridiculous in retrospect- because they weren't cheap.

I had a collection with Collumns and Sonic, that's it.

I enjoyed the SNES more, my friend had one.. also the controller was better.

Feel like a bit of a spoilt brat when I look back to the Mega Drive era , I got a Mega Drive but we blatantly couldn't afford it.. and that's why we didn't have any games.

By the time the PlayStation came I was buying my own games and had a concept of value of money.

SNES easily it had Unirally, Starwing, SF2, Zelda, etc. Though even in my hardcore nintendo days i did appreciate how amazing sonic 2 and street of rage were.

Street Fighter 2 the best game of that generation was crap on the megadrive due to its shite controller.

Plus the SNES had a cool toaster like ejection mechanism :P

Mega Drive-It brought me up

TJ&E2 Goron? I've played a ROM of it and hated it; the 1st it where it's at.

Micro Machines (Especially Military - Wont ever see it on Virtual Console as was EU only)

Sonic 1, 2, 3 & K

Streets of Rage series (esp the 2nd)

CHUCK ROCK!!!

Alien Storm (My 1st game)

Cool Spot (A WAY better mascot of 7UP than that freaky lanky guy)

Desert & Jungle Strike

The Jurrasic Park games

Theme Park (so hard >_<)

Erm too hard to say really. Out of the games I had back then for both consoles, I would have to say that the SNES edges it with games like Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, SM All Stars, Super Star Wars, Zelda and Mario Kart, but Megadrive was also amazing: I had a Sonic compilation with sonics 1 & 2 and mean bean machine, columns, italia 90, ms Pac-man. Ah... great times.

I'm gonna have to say MegaDrive as it is the only one I had back in the '90's. I got a Super Nintendo 4 years ago. And so it doesn't count as it paled in comparison to the Dreamcast and Gamecube.

MegaDrive truly owned tho.

Sonic 1, 2, 3, & Knuckles, Spinball, 3D.

Streets Of Rage 2 (I still want to get 1 & 3, aah!),

FIFA International Soccer (The very first one!)

FIFA Soccer '95 (The very second one!)

Fatal Fury

I can't remember what else, apart from renting games from a shop named Futurevision in nearby Perry Common (It's gone now, and that place is still a craphole) where I rented games like Streets Of Rage 1 & 3, Toe Jam & Earl, Cool Spot, Lion King, and others.

Agree with most of those...BUT TJ&E2 is MILES better than the first (which i can't stand). It's easily one of my favourite 2D platformers ever made, and it's also hilarious (i only find Phoenix Wright and Paper Mario 2 funnier).

I'm disappointed in you

Mega Drive - It's what got me into games in the first place and was and still is the best console I have ever had and will probably always be. And has some of my favourite games of all time on there. I could just put 'Sonic' and that would sum up the reasons for me:

Sonic 1

Sonic 2

Sonic 3 and Knuckles (Best game ever made in my opinion)

Sonic Spinball

Sonic 3D (I found most people hated this but I loved it)

Streets of Rage 1, 2 and 3 (especially no.1)

Shinobi

Alladin (Yes one of the only movie tie ins that was excellent, if it was a movie tie in?)

Columns

PGA Golf

Ristar

And Many others

SNES!

F-Zero, Mario, The Almighty DKC Trilogy... Mario Kart...

POP N TWINBEE!

I never did get the hang of the Megadrive due to the controller and games. I wont deny Sonic was good fun... but it wasnt (and isnt) Mario... I played games like Micro Machines and Desert Strike on both and I just thought they somehow lacked something on the 'drive.

SNES has such a vast AAA library that answered anything the Genesis had, except for Ecco and that Michael Jackson game. Apart from games already listed

Actraiser

Barts Nightmare

Super Turrican

Super Ghouls n Ghosts

Gradius and Life Force

Mega Man X series

best versions of SFII

Final Fight

TMNT

Ninja Gaiden Trilogy

Hal's Hole in One

Super Tennis

NCAA Basketball

and every good Square RPG

and the better controller

What is this? Madness? The SNES far outstripped the Megadrive:

Street Fighter 2 (not the shitty megadrive version)

Super Mario World

Yoshi's Island

Super Mario Allstars

Super Probotector

Super Metroid

Super Mario Kart

Super Castlevania

Killer Instinct

Donkey Kong Country (and it's sequels)

Zelda: LTTP

Axelay

Chrono Trigger

Secret of Mana

F-Zero

Starfox

But it didn't just win in the software stakes, it looked better, had nicer graphics and had a controller which totally shit all over the megadrive pad. The SNES was king!
