But I truly and honestly believe the Sony is far too deep rooted in peoples minds to be touched..

Rather naivistic way to look things, and basically proves how out of touch certain people are. Nintendo was in exactly same position 11 years ago, and it's ironic how much PS3's launch mirrors N64's:

* Company has been nro 1 for two console generations.

* Lackluster E3 year before console is launched. Company even lies about features that their new console will have.

* Year late to its main competitor.

* Console should be much more powerful console than any of its competitors. In practice, however, this doesn't show.

* Arrogant management that belittles its competition, and alienates their most important 3rd party supporters (For example, EA doesn't really believe on PS3 anymore).

* Significantly more expensive than their competitors

* Much harder to develop than its competitors.

* Uses exotic media just to ramp manufacturers profit margins.

* Big promises about 3rd party support, but even before console is out, important key / exclusive titles are slipping out (Assassin's Creed, Alan Wake, Bioshock, GTA IV, Virtua Fighter 5, etc.).

Does this sound familiar? :)

Check back in a few years, there will be tons of games worth owning on the PS3.

Same was said about Nintendo 64. In original N64 release list, there was such titles like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Ridge Racer, etc. No way that Nintendo could lose with huge support like that. :indeed:

Blu-Ray why? because Disney and Sony pictures are backing it simple as if they refuse to release on hd then people will have to buy it.

History lesson: Did you know that when DivX was first released, Disney officially announced that it would support only it and would never release its movies on DVD? Suddenly, when DivX didn't sell so well as they excepted, Disney started to publish their titles on DVD.

* the rental system, not the codec

hahaha, you cant compare like that, reasons:

PSone was CD.

N64 Was Cartridge.

Now that might not make any sense let me put it this way.

The only reason PSone sold so well was becuase nearly everyone had theres chipped. Games for £5 who would pick that over £50 games.

Also the PSone doubled as a CD player, like the PS3 doubles as a Blu Ray player.

I love the N64, its my favorite console of all time and it didnt "flop" it just didnt sell as well, but seriously if the PSone didnt have the chip around it would of been totally diffrent.

It'll be interesting to see how things pan out, as I will myself probably be choosing a 360/PS3 in about 2-3 years time as companion next to my Wii, for those little breaks when I'm not playing Animal Crossing Wii and online Smash Bros. By then PS3 will surely have software to rival 360, and both will undoubtedly have had price cuts.

I'll tell you what though, if F1 CE made it on to 360 (pure fantasy, but still) I would buy a 360 tomorrow, straight up. that game will be a very powerful reason for me to get a PS3 make no mistake.

If we look game sales, it is fairly evident that most PSOne users didn't pirate games. By that logic Dreamcast should have been victor of last generation, as you didn't even need modchip to play copied games. Furthermore, if we go with your logic, PS3 should be pretty much doomed, as there isn't simply way to pirate its games.

Also the PSone doubled as a CD player, like the PS3 doubles as a Blu Ray player.

Except that everybody had CD-player by that time, and even I don't know anyone who would have used PSOne's CD-player. Furthermore, Sony didn't use it as a key feature in marketing. It was just there.

Nobody said anything about flopping, but Nintendo's market share did drop over 70 percent during N64 era due aformentioned reasons. And what comes to selection of games, N64 was plain horrible. It had only 224 different titles in the west, with over 80 being random license crap or sport games.

Bollox, that is wrong. Everyone i knew had there PSone chipped, at least 50% of PSone owners did in imo.

Well, am I right when I assume that you are brit? If I'm right, did you know that statistically brits do pirate most software in Europe after ex-Soviet countries? My memory is little shaky, but if I remember correctly, percentage of illegal software is around 60 or something like that in Great Britain. :)

Yeah im a brit, but even if we do that hat proves my point that people did have the PSones chipped haha.

It just proves that brits do chip their consoles. USA and rest of the Europe pirate much less games. It is unfair to say that everybody pirates games only because your country is of full eye-patched, rum drinking sailors. :)

How wrong you are, in countries such as Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Germany and a lot more, have a much higher piracy rate than Britain. Not saying its good, just saying it is.

Turrican fans, wake up - Factor 5 boss Julian Eggebrecht says that PlayStation 3 might finally see the return of the '90s shooter.

Although he admits that the never-quite-dismissed "Thornado" GameCube project is "completely dead", Eggebrecht says: "What we are thinking about is basically with the PS3 is going back to our old Turrican games, and basically, finally doing something like that but in 3D. That's finally going through."

Speaking to Game Informer, the developer also said that it might consider re-releasing some of the old Turrican games through the PS3 Store's e-Distribution Initiative (EDI) service.

"I don't think that the current thinking from Phil Harrison is that under the worldwide studios umbrella he wants to see too many straight ported older titles," Eggebrecht notes. "Having said that though, you've seen Midway's announcement ... We have been in some talks about re-releasing some of our old Turrican titles for the platform, but nothing's been finished yet. I'd love to do it."

If not that, it sounds like we might see some original EDI content, if only because the team would rather try something a bit shorter-term than embark on another multi-year project like Lair.

Speaking of which, Eggebrecht says the dragon-riding action game coming along nicely, may offer a toggle between Sixaxis tilt and analogue controls, and will do for dragon games what Rogue Squadron did for space combat. You can catch up on trailers and previews on the Lair gamepage.

Awesome news as I loved Turrican, I think it was on the Amiga that I played it.

Just read the Perrin Kaplan news on the front page. Pathetic.

Now, massively multiplayer online gaming is probably not a direction that Nintendo will be going. I think that's a niche area

what a load of rubbish. that is a very important area, its just that nintendo doesnt feel like putting any money into it. the only thing going for nintendo (in my eyes) are the key franchises that have made them what they are over the last 20 years. this new look on 'non-gamers' is getting over the top, well have they forgotten about gamers? it seems that they arent getting fair treatment at the moment. there is still more profit in people who play games regularly, so at least give them more than 3 games worth owning.

Microsoft/xbox,Playstation/sony excel in getting the AAA titles out and having good MMO and normal online games, so surely thats what big N needs to do.
