Secrets & Lies

Some of the dialogue was a bit shit, and some of the acting was a bit "...".

Get the fuck out.

Didn't like it. Torture porn, without the graphic gore. I'm not really sure what Haneke is trying to do. Some of what he does is quite interesting, like how his breaking of the fourth wall extends directly to the audience in one instance - to quite good affect. Having said I didn't like it, I did sit through it...so there was definitely something to it. Maybe just blood lust.

Get the fuck out.

There were some bits, particularly the scenes with just Monica and Maurice, that I consciously thought "This is not very good...". It's not often I actually do that in films... Some bits felt like I was watching a play, with the actors waiting till the other had finished their line before speaking.

However, as said, Cynthia was just amazing. There's that one scene in the cafe where it's like a 10 minute long single shot -- outstanding. You could see the shame and regret and pain on her face.

And of course 10 Things I Hate About You!!

Cheers. I knew there was another popular film but I couldn't remember and I couldn't be bothered to check IMDB.

Star Trek- The one that was on last night

I've been watching them all every Saturday since a friend of mine is a Trekkie and I wanted to know what he saw in the series and the movies...I'm still waiting. I liked the 2009 movie a lot but these movies that are on telly are rubbish (except for last week's one, that was good). I also forgot to mention that I liked last week's movie that was on.

Based on the "last week's one was good" part, I'm going to guess that you've seen the first three so far. Which would make the good one Wrath of Khan.

The general consensus with Star Trek fans is that all the odd-numbered films are rubbish. Number 4 (The Voyage Home) has mixed view and number 10 is seen as alright-but-not-that-good.

So, essentially, the Trek fanbase agrees that 2 (Wrath of Khan), 6 (The Undiscovered Country) and 8 (First Contact) are great films.

My mate just told me the one I enjoyed last week was the fourth one called The Voyage Home. That one is the best for me so far, I'm not really keen on the others at the moment. Last night's one is the worst! Absolutely horrible!

Thanks Happenstance, I'm going to give my ratings of the others:

Motion Picture - 3/10

Wrath of Khan - 3/10

Search for Spock - 2/10

Voyage Home - 6/10

Final Frontier - 1/10

I know you're all going to disagree with me on this but I'm not really a Trek fan so just keep that in mind, lol.

Sherlock Holmes

I've never read any of the stories before but I knew that the movie (or Robert Downey Jr.) didn't portray Holmes' character perfectly.

Still I found it very enjoyable. Great performances by every actor.

Visually the movie managed to impress me from time to time. I just love the clothes of the old days. Oh, and slow motions of Mr. Jr. beating up guys? Just awesome :D

Soundtrack is a bomb. Just listen to Discombobulate.

Sometimes the movie can a bit a bit of a drag, but I was entertained, which is a good thing.

Sad factoid. They should be awesome. They're really not. :(

The original kicks ass though. It's an action classic- not fat, just a lean, imaginative screen play that effectively pushes forward a series of quality set pieces.

Predators are retarded. Granted the first film was slick, but that's because there was actual tension. Give me an Alien any day (and keep Joss Whedon the fuck away).

I still have an issue with Gotham not being Gotham, re-casting (Seriously, you cast Katie Holmes in the first one. What the Hell did you expect?) and pacing but it's great otherwise. Also the disjoint between the citizens of Gotham and Harvey Dent was annoying when it came to the crap about the two ferries not blowing each other up - I quite happily would have blown the other ferrey up. Nolan needs to learn what nuance is.

In the mood to watch this. Saw Batman Begins again this weekend, and it was a bit better than I remembered it to be. Well not Katie Holmes. She still sucked.

So now I want to watch Dark Knight again, as I liked it back when it was shown in the cinema heh (apart from me having to pee halfway through and thus constantly hoping for the end to come haha).

Did Joss Whedon do an Alien?

I just watched Alien now.

It was...good.

Urgh. Tarnish.

Don't forget he also wrote Firefly.

I find it hilarious that all the Whedonites I know would not believe me that their idol wrote Alien: Resurrection.
