Dan_Dare
So, I just finished watching The Terminmator. classy film I'm sure you will all agree. however, the point of this thread is not to praise the big Arn (that goes without saying) but rather to point out something I really liked about besides. If you were to watch Terminator 1 and 2 in close succession, there is alot between the two movies that is very, very similar. things like the line 'come with me if you want to live', arnie being tossed through a shop front window and the car chase into the factories in the two movies are identical. Alot of film sequels do this, from the super sweet awesomeness of Back To The Future to the brilliant Infernal Affairs trillogy. personally, I really like the technique. it really makes the movies feel together and part of a whole, as opposed to being vaguely related movies strung together. your thoughts, then. yay? nay? dabookerman
terminator 3 never existed imo. but nevertheless both films are obviously arnies masterpieces if you will.
Konfucius
I don't really like movie sequels that are pretty similar to the first one, I get the feeling that I watched practically the same movie twice. I like it a lot more if the story evolves. For example Blade 1 + 2, Spiderman 1 + 2, Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick.
Lammie
Yeah it's called a 'formula' and sequels usually have the same formula as the original film. Happens in just about every sequel out there. It's a basic generic code so audiences get what they expect, otherwise if you give them something totally different they'll be all 'WTF was that'. Oh, and don't be dissin' Terminator 3. If you ask me, the first one is the shittest of the trilogy.
Ramar
Oh, and don't be dissin' Terminator 3. If you ask me, the first one is the shittest of the trilogy. How mistaken you are.
Lammie
How mistaken you are. Well........possibly. I saw T2 before the first Terminator, so the moment I saw the giant 80's hairdo's I immediately wrote it off as rubbish. Plus the animatronics in numero uno are pretty prehistoric compared to Judgement Day.
ViPeR
T3 was a different director, wasn't James Camerons vision, shouldn't have happened, and the female terminator couldn't act for shit. Now that's out the way I know exactly what you mean, if you look at the Star Wars prequels things like this are done numerous times. At several points Obi Wan or Anakin will say something and i'm like, wait... Han Solo said that in such and such. Thing is there's a balance, done too much and it becomes annoying and a desperate attempt to link two films. Done right and it can be done like the Terminators, where it's not noticeable but a nice addition.

knightendo
some film series handle it brilliantly, bond and spiderman spring to mind, and personally i loved the third terminator movie as it brought the story full circle and i loved the ending! it felt like a true progression rather than a cash-in of the same-old-stuff. comedy films like rush hour do a good job of progressing by making a lot of jokes that fans of the first film only would get, progressing such jokes throughout the (hopefully) series, a bit like lethal weapon does with it's "I'm getting too old for this shit" lines however, i can not stand movies that throw out all the same old stuff time and time again.. and ironically, i also hate movies that change TOO much between films. the first bad boys for example was a very character-driven movie with hilarious dialogue and a very naturalistic approach by the actors amongst all the usual explosions and action. the second movie did away with all the charm and just made a no-brainer action movie that sucked! and in much the same way, i praised the bond franchise as they DO progress when you watch them in sequence, and they take chances now and again (like licence to kill), but the most recent one, die another day was awful as it was (like bb2) just a no-brainer action movie trying to compete with the other films of the day instead of just getting on with being a bond movie. Charlie
I think Final Destination takes this a little bit too far, all the films have exactly the same plot, just the disaster at the beginning different.

I regard the trilogy as just one film, the first ones, as the other's were shit in comparison. thats the thing, for me my favourite film ever is matrix, however i my favourite trilogy is lord of the rings, and i hold that in higher regard then the matrix. i cant choose one of the lotr films can it, but matrix 1 could work on its own, it was intended that way aswell, it ended just like star wars epi 4 really. Hero-of-Time
Personally I love the Terminator films apart from number 3. I regard T2 as one of the best action flicks ever made. It had action, comedy and a great storyline. If anyone has the T2 dvd then they will know how funny the Terminator trying to smile deleted scene is. Like many have said T3 was terrible and it basically shouldnt have been made. I hate it when they change the actors for a sequel and the way they botched up the stoyline was a disgrace. Worse thing is talks of T4 are in the making now. Nice one fellas you have just destroyed an awesome film frachise.
demonmike04
I didnt like T3 all that much...but the ending left me impressed and confused... I guess carrying something on into a sequel does give it that sense of authenticity, you then realise that the stories actually do link.

AshMat
I think T3 was a good movie, not the best, but good. T2 Was teh best for me. It's the one i saw first but i thought his enemy was fantastic.
Shorty
T3 spoilers within: I've always been a big fan of the Terminator Series, for me the order of quality has to be (best to worst) T2: Judgement Day Terminator 3D The Terminator T3: Rise of the Machines The thing is, I like all 4, I just found T3 to be nothing more than a fun action-fest. The story was completely disappointing, and the feeling that they lost at the end was pretty annoying. Also the way they almost discredited Connor's entire importance to the future war and instead attributed it to his children... well it felt almost insulting to the brilliant storyline in the first two movies. Fierce_LiNk
To me, T3 wasn't a complete disaster. It had some fine moments, and it had some not so fine moments. For me though, i think the dialogue was nowhere near as good as it was in the first two films. I think if they just spent a bit more time on the script writing, then it would have been a much better movie. I definitely think that the first two films are classics though. And i agree Dan Dare that they do have a lot of similarities. I used to enjoy picking up on these when watching the films years back (it's still quite fun too). There's a lot less of these similarities in T3, so maybe we could argue that this is why T3 feels less complete in this series than the other films? I was thinkin that erlier. it totally lacks the coherence of the other 2 films. sure, you get stuff like the naked scene, the trucks are in it again and stuff, but other than that, it just feels so....out of place. broadwayrock
T3 was a live action Tom and Jerry Episode. It should have not been made.
Konfucius
I actually thought T3 was quite decent, not as genious as the previous Terminator parts but still a very solid action movie but you can tell that James Cameron (I think) wasn't behind it anymore. However, I really like that Jonathon Mostow was "brave" enough to let Judgement Day happen instead of stopping it a third time. I'm really looking forward to T4, even if it's only a CGI Terminator destruction festival.
knightendo
i actually went back and watched the first two after really enjoying the third, and it still stands as my fave. it would probably be the only one of the three that i would go outta my way to watch again, and it's the only one i own. gaggle64
Both the first two are sheer genius. The first one is great because Arnie is an unstoppable death machine that get's to say "Fuck you, asshole." The "I'll be back" moment when he drives a truck into the cop station remains a classic cinema moment and the difinitive I'll Be Back moment. The scene where he rises from the flames is spine tingiling. The second one is fantastic because Arnie gets to ride a bike. A BIKE!
