What was the timeline before? October for the initial, January for the reveal/events and launch in March?

So if they do similar a launch in June?

Seems a bit underwhelming to just confirm what is already known alongside footage which requires a deeper look to tell it isn't just a new track for MK8.

Looks like the Mario movie version of DK is gonna be the norm now.

I suppose the signs were there when they edited Peach's face on the Showtime box art.

The pain I have felt over the years as a childhood Rare fan will never end lol. I will change my sig to 'no longer believes'. I just have to find an even more agonised render of him.

Hope the eshop gets a massive overhaul if they're expecting Switch 2 owners to use it to play backwards compatible games.

Yeah, really hope all those AI generated shovelware crap games will be available on Switch 2 :) :p

Well yeah that's my point, it needs a much better storefront navigation experience if they're still letting all that shite through.

I just wanted to make fun of eShop :p

20th October 2016 for reveal, Jan Presentation announced 26th

13th Jan for Presentation/follow-up events and hands-on

3rd March launch

Don't want to read into this too hard but after a few calculations the dates are lining up a bit too nicely for it to mirror the OG Switch campaign, so let's do some completely baseless projecting based on that:

OG Switch

  • Reveal trailer 20/10/16 (--)
  • Switch Presentation announced on 26/10/16 (+6 days)
  • January Switch Presentation on 13/01/17 (+79 days)
  • Switch launch on 03/03/17 (+49 days)
  • TOTAL CAMPAIGN LENGTH: 134 days

Switch 2

  • Reveal trailer and Switch 2 Direct announcement 16/01/25 (--)
  • Switch 2 Direct on 02/04/25 (+76 days)
  • Projected Switch 2 launch 49 days/7 weeks later on the week of 21/05/25, OG Switch launched on the Friday so here that would be 23/05/25 so +51 days
  • TOTAL PROJECTED CAMPAIGN LENGTH: 127 days

Could then add a week to match the 134 days if you wanted, meaning a 30/05/25 launch.

Obviously a  bunch of ifs and speculation, but it's interesting how close the number of days from the Presentation announcement > Presentation is vs the same for the Switch 2 and its Direct in April.

Bring back the music

and the themes

and real folders

and the...

Can't believe we've had nearly 8 years of only black and white themes on the Switch

Was trying to think why it wouldn't, totally forgot about the obvious reason, the ring. :woops:

They could go down the Apple route and sell adaptors I suppose.

Do the new JoyCons have the IR sensors still. Bit hard to tell in that video?

Not a fan of this Rare erasure.

We just got K.Rool back to relevance! Don't snatch it away from him!

I know, it breaks my heart. At this point I have come to accept it for my own sanity, but lord knows if I still drank I would be spewing hateful tweets into the ether for months to follow lol.

That aside, I also agree on the hope that the eShop gets massively overhauled. I remember years ago reading how Apple were updating their app store, and reviewed thousands of apps, with those they deemed no longer up to scratch requiring an update within 30 days or face removal. I hope Nintendo think of something similar, and also move forward with a new outline of rules. I would say it'd be a good idea to limit the amount of releases a publisher can make (to avoid Epic Clock - 50th edition, or whatever they're called), but I know Nintendo tried limiting releases in the NES era which led to other issues.

I also wonder how Nintendo will fix leaks? This is the first time ever that I have seen leaks ahead of time and they've actually been completely true. I saw images of the Switch 2 about a week ago, assumed it was some mock-up but no, it's exactly as was shown in the reveal video!

It feels like Nintendo brought a lot of these leaks upon themselves by holding back information for so long, having their video after CES when they knew companies would want to be showcasing their tech for the year.

Might as well get their official image in here:

We had a similar colour combo last time out, of course -- but do we think this launches with a second colour variant like the Switch had with its all-Grey colour scheme?

You can just about make out the IR sensor on the bottom or the right Joy Con.

Hopefully "not fully compatible" might just mean "you need Switch 1 controllers". The random official charging stand hopefully indicates compatibility on the new Switch.

Mochizuki reporting that Nintendo will have 20 million units ready to ship in the first year:

NEW: pressure is already high on Nintendo Switch 2 to jump start otherwise lackluster sentiment of video game industry. Analysts say Nintendo suppliers are ready to ship 20 million units in first year, a pace much higher than that of Switch, PS4 and PS5.

Well, holy hot damn.

Go on Nintendo, get those scalpers. Sic 'em.

Definitely giving me these vibes:

Looks cool, I'll buy one.

I went to the Switch event in January 2017 and I'm a little hazy but I feel like I remember knowing quite a lot of what was going to be there - was there a direct just before the event or did we find out stuff between the reveal and the first blowout? I guess what I'm wondering is will we get bits of info between now and April or do we have to now wait 2 and a half months to see anything else.

I'm glad we're finally getting a new Mario Kart. If that was the only game at launch I'd definitely get one.

The January Presentation which announced virtually everything major (titles, hardware, etc.) took place the Thursday 12th night/Friday 13th (timezone weirdness, I think it would've been like midday on the Friday in Japan?) and then there was private hands-on following the event in Tokyo followed by wider hands-on around the world over the weekend of the 14th/15th, if I'm remembering right.

I feel like some smaller games like Snipperclips might've been there too but not necessarily shown in the Presentation? I remember that getting loads of buzz.

On the Switch marketing front I feel like it was virtual silence between the event being announced and the Presentation taking place? Breath of the Wild didn't get any new trailers that I can remember during that time, we didn't have titles for any of the other games shown in the reveal trailer until the Jan Presentation...maybe I'm forgetting something but I do feel like they were dead quiet.

Makes the Pokémon Day Presents next month a bit awkwardly timed, guess they'll just focus on those games being OG Switch titles and maybe mentioning the backwards compatibility, if anything, about the Switch 2?
