Fierce_LiNk Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 I actually really like that song. Dat nostalgia. :p The film itself is lame, though. It's enjoyable in places, but I'm still aware that it's absolute trash.
Mr-Paul Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Anyone been watching anything? Insurgent I quite enjoyed this, having read the books. But it was really quite an average movie, and not a lot really happens. Shows you how much the books are padded out with Tris' thoughts! Looking forward to the third one though. Run All Night Liam Neeson does Taken yet again, but this time, he's an ex-con instead of an ex-cop. Mindless fun, but please do some other films too please Liam, you're a good actor! Cinderella Being a Disney lover, I really liked this. Disappointed that there weren't any of the songs, but I guess it's kind of to be expected. I hope Beauty and the Beast bucks this trend though! Robb Stark plays the prince, making me want to shout KING IN THE NORTH! every time he came on screen. Helena Bonham Carter cameos as Helena Bonham Carter. Get Hard A pretty fun comedy. Very weak on plot, and not Will Ferrell's best work, but he always makes me laugh; Kevin Hart puts in a good performance too. Worth a watch if you're a fan, otherwise you aren't missing out on a lot. Fast & Furious 7 I haven't seen the first six, but this was a good action movie. Wasn't expecting it to be so heist-y/secret agent-y. Thought it'd be more about street racing. Some great set pieces, decent performances from the cast, and a nice tribute to the late Paul Walker at the end. Will go back and watch the rest now! Next up, John Wick on Tuesday. My 2015 list The Theory of Everything Big Hero 6 Into the Woods Foxcatcher Wild American Sniper Ex Machina Kingsman: The Secret Service Jupiter Ascending Focus Project Almanac Chappie Insurgent Run All Night Cinderella Get Hard Fast & Furious 7
Cube Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 John Wick I find this hard to describe without making it sound lame. The plot is very light and not much is explained. The action is over-the-top but in a very awesome style. The lack of explanation actually helps the film as you figure out bits for yourself. My 2015 list Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt 2 Big Hero 6 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles John Wick

Mr-Paul Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 John Wick An entertaining action film. Decent fight scenes. Light, predictable plot, but it was good. Liked the idea of a hotel for assassins! The Duff Wouldn't have seen this if I didn't have an unlimited card. Went because Ken Jeong was in it. A standard high school comedy that provided some laughs. Enjoyable, but it's no Mean Girls. The Emperor's New Clothes A brilliant documentary concerning the financial crisis from Michael Winterbottom, starring Russell Brand. Puts across its points in a really accessible, entertaining manner. Probably made me even more of a socialist :P Avengers: Age Of Ultron Loved it. Will be seeing again! Probably not as good as Winter Soldier, but a great movie. Beast Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Fast and Furious 7 This was a great film and the best addition to the series. Very over-the-top unrealistic action but that's not a bad thing. The tribute to Paul Walker was brilliantly handled and made me shed a few tears. Kingsman: The Secret Service I bloody adore this film. Easily my favourite film of 2015 so far. The action was spot-on, the script was clever and funny and I just really enjoyed it but then I loved Kick-Ass and this was from the same guy who directed the movies. The Duff A pleasant surprise. I was expecting a cliche teen movie and that was what I got but it had a bit of heart and charm to it. Superfast My friend wanted to watch this (yeah, she has no taste) because she likes watching spoof movies and, yup, you guessed it, they made a spoof out of Fast and Furious and yup, you guessed it, it was absolute trash. Even my friend switched it off after a few minutes.
Cube Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Catching Fire Entertaining enough, Snow's increased parts were definitely good. I was a bit disappointed that they significantly softened the ending. Still, at least they didn't change the ending or cut it off. Mockingjay Part 1 Decent, but a bit dull. I was actually surprised as to what point this film reached - I wasn't ready for it ending as I thought it would cover more of the book. There's a LOT to do in part 2.
Murr Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Added alot more since last time: New to the list - Million Dollar Arm Quantum of Solace The Hangover The Avengers Guardians of the Galaxy (Rewatch) Avengers: Age of Ultron The only 2 new actual films I hadn't seen in the above were Million Dollar arm and Ultron though. Mr-Paul Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Spooks: The Greater Good A decent spy flick with Jon Snooooooow. Never really watched the TV show much, it worked well as a standalone. Mad Max: Fury Road GO SEE THIS FILM NOW. Oh my god this was amazing. So damn entertaining. Visually stunning, thrilling from start to finish. Maybe the best film I've seen this year. Murr Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 3 More for May. Get Hard - I can watch Will Ferrell films and enjoy them as I just enjoy the guy in general. Didn't get favorable reviews and I can understand why. It's not the best comedy film he's been in. But it does have it's moments, it did make me laugh and It's easy enough to watch and enjoy. American Pie - Need I say more? Amazing soundtrack, and takes me back to senior school, with good times with friends. Hot Tub Time Machine 2 - First one was surprisingly good, this one not so much. Had moments that did make me laugh. But just not much compared to the first one. Again another easy comedy to watch and is still enjoyable. obviously seen American Pie before, but the 2 others were first time viewing. 2015 so far: January Birdman Big Hero Six NightCrawler Fox Catcher American Sniper February Dumb And Dumber To A Million Ways to Die in the West Edge of Tomorrow Horrible Bosses 2 The Interview Sin City: A Dame to kill for Guardians of the Galaxy The Inbetweeners 2 John Wick March Big Hero Six (2nd time watching it) Tangled How to Train Your Dragon 2 The Fast and The Furious April Furious 7 Wedding Crashers Million Dollar Arm Quantum of Solace The Hangover The Avengers May Guardians of the Galaxy (Rewatch) Avengers: Age of Ultron Get Hard American Pie Hot Tub Time Machine 2
bob Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Watched Mad Max last night. It was incredible! Best film so far this year, I reckon. The soundtrack is brill, and whoever had the idea of the dude with the flamethrower guitar on a truck covered in amps and drums deserves an Oscar.
Sméagol Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 (edited) Didn't we already have a general film thread :p. I have a cinema subscription since last month, so I'll be seeing more films than I'd normally would from now on. Coherence This movie's theme (quantum mechanics and its many-worlds-interpretation; quantum decoherence) is right up my alley. It delivered perfectly. Tone, atmosphere, acting...brilliant. It's the most terrifying non-horror-movie I've ever seen and instantly became one of my favourite movies of all time. One of my favourite films from last year, go see it. The film is so effective within its micro budget. Oh! And I believe this is a worldwide event, but motherfucking BLADERUNNER is getting a theatrical release in June. This regards the final cut. Dog-amoto Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 I watched What We Do In The Shadows the other day. Superb. Funniest film I've seen in ages.
Mr-Paul Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Pitch Perfect 2 Not as good as the first. Good musical numbers but very very weak plot. Too many awful a cappella puns. I enjoyed it, but only go and see if you liked the first. Tomorrowland: A World Beyond I enjoyed this, until the last act where it just falls apart. It just ends so quickly, and it feels like there's no threat or stakes to it all. I loved the whole aesthetic, and I enjoyed Casey and Athena as characters, Frank less so. They spent too much time getting to Tomorrowland, the message was lost and Hugh Laurie's character wasn't set up well enough for it to work. The soundtrack is brill, and whoever had the idea of the dude with the flamethrower guitar on a truck covered in amps and drums deserves an Oscar. Damn right, that was absolutely incredible. Really enjoyed it. Watched it yesterday for free which was even better (Wasn't naughty, had free cinema tickets as rewards from the bank). Incredible film, glad I saw it on the big screen as I imagine it wouldn't look and especially sound as good in the living room unless you've got a stunning TV and surround sound. 2015 so far: January Birdman Big Hero Six NightCrawler Fox Catcher American Sniper February Dumb And Dumber To A Million Ways to Die in the West Edge of Tomorrow Horrible Bosses 2 The Interview Sin City: A Dame to kill for Guardians of the Galaxy The Inbetweeners 2 John Wick March Big Hero Six (2nd time watching it) Tangled How to Train Your Dragon 2 The Fast and The Furious April Furious 7 Wedding Crashers Million Dollar Arm Quantum of Solace The Hangover The Avengers May Guardians of the Galaxy (Rewatch) Avengers: Age of Ultron Get Hard American Pie Hot Tub Time Machine 2 Mad Max: Fury Road
Fierce_LiNk Posted May 26, 2015 Author Posted May 26, 2015 I watched two films yesterday. Batteries Not Included Dat nostalgia. Avengers Assemble This film has made me realise that I don't like Marvel and that I can't stand Robert Downey Jr. Only two things I liked about this film were Mark Ruffalo in non-Hulk mode and Scarlett's arse. I've seen a few others this year but I've forgotten most of them. Will try to use this thread as and when I watch films. My 2015 list Big Hero 6 The Wolf of Wall Street American Psycho Gravity 3D The Lego Movie Lost in Space (lol) Batteries not included Avengers Assemble
Mr-Paul Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 San Andreas Average, but quite entertaining. Doesn't stand out in the disaster movie genre. Weak on plot, strong on crumbling buildings. Murr Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 5 more films since the last update: Mama - been wanting to watch this film for a while due to seeing a few gifs of it. I like scary films, and this one looked like it'd make me jump based off the gif's id seen. It was pretty good. Did make me jump and did freak me out for a while. But the end is when it got a bit ridiculous and lost it's scare appeal. Still glad I watched it. 22 Jump Street - Loved 21 Jump Street, love this too. The fact it's taking the piss out of itself near the start of the film that it got a sequel in the first place. Referencing the captains office like a cube of ice when the captain is Ice Cube. Made me chuckle. Best scene is the moment they reveal that Schmidt had slept with the captains daughter and Jenko's reaction to it were brilliant. Rush - Seen this before but love it. A great film based on an incredible story. 70's F1 looked insanely good fun. Sex Tape - Why did I bother?? Started out pretty funny, but got so weird and terrible. Bonus though a lot of scenes with Cameron Diaz naked, so that's ok I guess. Home - The latest Dreamworks animations offering. It's alright, It passes time. But it's no means their best work. Nothing in comparison to Dragons, Shrek or Madagascar. It seemed as if Rhianna had a stipulation in her contract when doing the voice to have as many of her songs in the film just for the sake of it. They came on at such random times. Some forced scenes in the film with dancing to her songs that were just... not needed and randomly placed. Guess it doesn't help I'm not a fan of her barring a few songs. Beast Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 The Lego Movie Absolutely amazing. So amazing that I watched it twice! Like, I just finished watching it and decided to watch it again. It's rare I do that with films but I just thoroughly enjoyed it. Also, it just really made me want to buy Lego. And I love the fact that something Harry Potter-related was in it. The ending cracked me up. Pokemon: The First Movie I WANT IT ON BLURAY!!! That is all! High School Musical 3: Senior Year What team, Wildcats! Vanessa Hudgens is a babe! The Evil Dead Dat creepy-ass bitch doe! Bruce Campbell is a hero! A Nightmare on Elm Street 1984 "I'm your boyfriend now, Nancy!" A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge A nightmare in itself. Jimbob Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Jurassic World Not a bad movie. Some great moments throughout, highlighted below The Indominus Rex showing it's an intelligent dinosaur by camouflaging itself and scratching the wall to make people think it escaped, in order to give itself a chance to escape. Which caused the chaos in the park (original had Dennis Nedry turn the power off, causing the chaos) Owen (Chris Pratt) showing how great a Velociraptor trainer he is, by having them hunt the escaped Indominus Rex on order of In-gen. However, they all find the other 1/2 of the Dino DNA used to make it (T-Rex mixed with Raptor), when the 4 Raptors communicate with it then turn around to hunt the humans down. The final battle was great, Indominus Rex ordering the Raptors to kill Owen, Claire and her Nephews. Then they refused, so the Rex killed 3 of the 4 Raptors. Claire had to release the T-Rex, which culminated in the remaining Raptor teaming with the T-Rex to take it out. There are also a few hat tips to the original movie Mr DNA Gray and Simon found the original Visitor Center and reminents of the Dino skeleton and Raptor, and original Jurassic Park jeeps and equipment One of the guys in the control room has a Jurassic Park T-Shirt on Mentions of some of the original cast and the accident It was well worth watching, which i recommend. San Andreas Reminds me of 2012, which isn't too bad. Overall not a bad movie, nothing too special about it.
Blade Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 Jurassic World was amazing! Just finished watching it! Nostalgia max! Loved how it is much more alike Jurassic Park rather than the lame sequels. Its almost like a "rebrand" of Jurassic Park -20 years on.
Mr-Paul Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Man Up Pretty decent, light hearted romcom with Simon Pegg. Felt more like a TV programme than a film. Spy Really funny. A great spy spoof. Jason Statham's character was brilliant. Well worth a watch. Jurassic World Very entertaining. I just love that Jurassic Park theme. Chris Pratt is a great action hero. Quite predictable, but a lot of fun. A sequel can't be in doubt after the success its had in its first week. Mr-Paul Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Mr Holmes After so many adaptations of Sherlock Holmes lately, it was nice to see something a bit different. Ian McKellen's portrayal of a 92 year old Sherlock losing his mind is brilliant. The Terminator A classic. One of my all time favourites. That theme tune is just chilling. Was great seeing it on the big screen. The time travel can get confusing if you think about it too hard, but it isn't as illogical as later entries in the series. Brilliant performances from the whole cast. Blade Runner: Final Cut Saw this in the cinema tent at Glastonbury, had never seen it before. Was very impressed. Wonderful art direction, and captured the horror aspect of sci-fi that you don't tend to get as much any more. Will definitely rematch in the comfort of my own home. Minions BANANA. A fun movie which doesn't quite live up to the Despicable Me films. The minions are great though. Terminator: Genisys Silly title, main plot twist ruined by trailers, really bad time travel, there's a lot to hate about this film, but as a fan of the franchise I couldn't help but enjoy it a bit. It has become too watered down, not enough threat, violence, nudity (mother of dragons looks great in it though). Arnie is brilliant and the first third which retreads the original timeline put a massive smile on my face. New Kyle Reese doesn't live up to the brilliant Michael Biehn in the original. Matt Smith is wasted, only a couple of minutes on screen. My 2015 list The Theory of Everything Big Hero 6 Into the Woods Foxcatcher Wild American Sniper Ex Machina Kingsman: The Secret Service Jupiter Ascending Focus Project Almanac Chappie Insurgent Run All Night Cinderella Get Hard Fast & Furious 7 John Wick The Duff The Emperor's New Clothes Avengers: Age of Ultron x 2 Spooks: The Greater Good Mad Max: Fury Road x 2 Pitch Perfect 2 Tomorrowland: A World Beyond San Andreas Man Up Spy Jurassic World Mr Holmes The Terminator Blade Runner: Final Cut Minions Terminator: Genisys
