I've never understood the not washing hair thing. Regardless of condition of hair, how on earth can you style unwashed hair? When I wake up, my hair is sticking out at all angles (depending on how I've slept) and cannot be tamed. I have to wash my hair every day otherwise it's impossible to do anything with it.

Although, word of warning, if your beard looks anything less than utterly magnificent, get rid of it. Bad beards are the worst.

Completely agree. No beard, is better than a not great beard, and infinitely better than a shite beard.

I think "the rules" (which I may or may not agree with BTW) are different for men and women. Yes, women tend to want to look younger, but guys get better with age. An older looking guy (but not too old) looks more authoritative, more mature and generally less "testosterone filled teenager". That may not be the case when it comes to their actual personality, but the first impression will be one of a mature man.

Definitely. Consider all of the actors that are considered to be highly attractive. Most of them will be in their 30s or 40s.

Wasn't it recently "scientifically" proven that beards are only attractive to females when they're uncommon, which is not the case these days?

Don't mean to be pedantic, but it was that they find them more attractive when they're uncommon.

There's also studies that suggest women find beards more attractive in times of economic hardship, as well and when they're ovulating.

I never use antiperspirant, only deodorant. So unhealthy to block out your sweat glands.

Then again, I don't have much of a problem with sweating. I do actually sweat a lot, but it doesn't smell (so as long as I avoid sweat patches then I'm fine). In fact, my sweat may actually smell quite nice. My shin pads that I've had for years smell of (and my housemates and family concur with this) strawberries.

When I do occasionally get body odour, I've not been sweating (I'm dry) so that's not the issue.

Man, I'm jealous. I don't sweat loads but I do notice it and worry about it when around others. There are some decent antiperspirants out there but they can be so hit and miss.

I'm the same as MoogleViper. never actually had an issue with it so just use deodorant.

Lynx Excite is my current one.

I used to use Lynx Africa back in the day, literally loved it. That said, I haven't actually used a deodorant for close to a decade, unless I'm applying it straight after a football session and need to get in a car with someone. I used them as a kid/teen but just stick to cologne/aftershave nowadays..much nicer.

I've still got a Lynx bottle lying about somewhere, now you mention it. I might dig it up to see if there's any left *prays for Lynx Africa*

But it's so unhealthy to block your glands (or in the case of Perspirex, stop them from working for 5 days).

Surely talc powder is better, or a citrus based deodorant (as this will fight the bacteria that cause B.O.).

I've used talc powder before but it ruins your clothes (unless they are white, of course).

As for the health thing, I've never actually thought about it, but at the same time I've never heard of it causing any issues? Hm..Food for thought.

I sweat like a tap. It's disgusting, but doesn't really smell. Does make me pretty self conscious though. Driclor is the only anti-perspirant I've used with any success, Perspirex is rubbish.

I actually think a lot of my sweating is due to social anxiety and being slightly out of shape.

Wet it, then blow dry/comb it? I don't really know as I don't style my hair.

I used to shampoo my hair every day until relatively recently. I came to the realisation that this was counter-productive and was the cause of my hair being so frizzy.

And because I was washing it so much, my glands would go into overdrive and produce so much oil. Whenever I go to a music festival, my hair will become insanely greasy after about 2 days. After about 3 days it looks wet.

The irony was that I shampooing my hair so much to prevent it from going greasy.

Yeah I used to wash it a lot too and always wondered why it was so frizzy :blank: Never again!

I don't use anything at all. I wash my face three times a day with water and Lynx shower gel. I shower once every two days so I'll shower, miss a day, shower, miss a day, etc. The only spray I use is Lynx Africa. I brush my teeth twice a day. I trim my beard when I notice ginger hairs and I shave every two days before I shower and yet...

Woah people miss a day of showering??? I feel wrong if I don't shower every day! Also, I completely agree with Zell, used to wash my hair everyday and that was the problem.

I don't if I go to the gym and I don't if I smell but 9 times out of 10, I don't. I usually wash my face and my pits in the mornings anyway.

Following on that, Wii Fit also helps.

I know, you may think this is just me being a fanboy, but if it wasn't for Wii Fit, I'd have put the weight back on. By the end of university, I had got down to 12 stone from 18. Then, I went up to 15 stone because I wasn't doing too much. Wii Fit then came out and since then, I dropped to between 9 and a half and 10 (depends on how much chocolate my parents keep feeding me) and have maintained this weight for 4 years now.

How long did the loss take and did you do any other exercise with Wii Fit?

I went from 18 to 12 in around 6 months during my final year of University. Went up to 15 by the April after I finished, and with the help of Wii Fit, got back down to ~10 by the end of that year. Don't do much other exercise, aside from the aforementioned jogging, plus I walk everywhere possible. That's all.

You only weight 10 stone? How tall are you? Because unless you're 5ft 6 or so, surely that's really underweight? I was under weight at 12 stone but thankfully I've put a stone or 2 of muscle on over the last year.

I'm around 5'9 and am of an "ideal" weight according to both my doctor and Wii Fit U :p

Can't say I've ever been a fan of the stuff!

I'm fairly sure there's some kind of law against using Lynx past the age of 14.

Man, she is too fit. Another reason why Parks and Recreation is my favourite show : peace:

And tbh I wasn't aware people actually used Lynx after the age of 16!

Lynx Dry is actually a really good anti-persperant (and this is coming from someone who sweatsa lot) and doesn't really smell at all.

I actually use an Adidas one these days which I think works even better.

If you want to use deodorant body spray (i.e. not antiperspirant) then you don't have much choice. Lynx has ~80% market share in that category, because nobody else makes them. Sure, Right Guard, Nivea, Dove... they only make antiperspirants. The only other ones that I know of that do deodorants are Adidas (occasionally, usually antiperspirant), Brut (not that great, also made by Unilever, so just their cheaper alternative to Lynx), or Old Spice (good, but not always available).

I use Lynx Africa anti-perspirant because it works and I like the smell.

All you people who don't sweat or smell a lot can get off your high, sweet-smelling horses as it's very easy to say 'Oh I never wash or wear horrible sprays' if you have no need.

I don´t use deodorant that often, but when I do, it sure isn´t Lynx (or Axe as it´s called here). Mine is neutral smelling, and aluminium free. I don´t want any smells associated with deodorants, I have fragrances for that. A tip though: unless you´ll feel less manly, you might consider shaving your armpits. This will reduce the typical sweat smell, and deodorants have more effect. I personally think it looks better as well, but I may be in the minority here with all you beardlovers. I think I saw this on engadget, but the beard trend seems to be on the decline. I only have some sort of a beard because I´m lazy.
