Dog-amoto Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Simple enough. Your favourite epic final boss fight. Only rule is it must be the absolute last boss. May be best to use spoiler tags. Mine would be erm...Metroid Prime!! Had a real blast with this back in 2003. Loved the fact you had to keep switching beams and visors. Made even better by Wii controls in Metroid Prime Trilogy
Londragon Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 I always enjoy playing through the game more, and more memorable, than final bosses. But the two that BLEW ME AWAY were Gannodorf from Ocarina of Time, and Andross from Lylat Wars. Choosing between these two I have to plump for Ganny-baby, I'm sure this will be many others favourite final boss, but I can't argue with my nostalgia.
Ike Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Mostly because I didn't have Internet access back then so I had no idea there was an extra stage after the Death Egg battle. Also the music: Using Super Sonic to run on the water, dodging attacks, climbing Chaos to damage him, again the music for half the battle at least. Mostly is was because Super Sonic in 3D. I'm sure I don't need to say anything. I'll add anymore if I think of any.
Rummy Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Like Londragon, I tend to find interim bosses more memorable tbh. Right now I can only think of SMW Bowser, and I guess subsequent bowsers, and Gannondorf in OoT. That was pretty sick. The bowsers have been good, but that's just cos it's mario/bowser. 64 was pretty tense at the time, iirc 3D land had a pretty nicely done final bowser fight? Otherwise there are few final bosses that spring to mind. Maybe I just don't finish games, actually.
Ville Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Well you know who's NOT my favourite end boss? Mizar from Jet Force Gemini. Still the only final boss I've never beaten, fucking Rare...
S.C.G Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Sonic 2 ^The above speed run doesn't do it justice though. Oh yeah, don't watch if you don't want spoilers 'n all that but I can't think of many gamers who haven't beaten Sonic 2.
Jonnas Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Audio I still rate this as one of the best final boss battles of all time EDIT: Dammit, S.C.G., going all ninja on me Audio I know he comes out of the blue, but I just love the fact that the final boss of Final Fantasy IX represents death, and nothing else. One can argue exactly what he is until the cows come home, but there's no denying that, as far as symbolism goes, he's a perfect match for the game's central theme of life. Audio Really, this battle is still amazing. The world is ending around them, and yet Ganondorf goes for one last attempt at clinging to the past. And the way it ends is just brutal. Not exactly a final boss, but there's no denying that this is one of the best, most satisfying "final challenges" of all time. I'd also like to mention Pokémon Silver (Ike said enough) and Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume (one of its final bosses is incredibly difficult, yet satisfying, and keeping with the game's theme)
Hero-of-Time Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Well you know who's NOT my favourite end boss? Mizar from Jet Force Gemini. Still the only final boss I've never beaten, fucking Rare... Haha! Hands down one of the toughest boss fights I have ever done.
Cube Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Well you know who's NOT my favourite end boss? Mizar from Jet Force Gemini. Still the only final boss I've never beaten, fucking Rare... Despite loving Jet Force Gemini and Donkey Kong 64, I was unable to reach the boss in either game.
Londragon Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Well you know who's NOT my favourite end boss? Mizar from Jet Force Gemini. Still the only final boss I've never beaten, fucking Rare... This is my problem in a nutshell, loved playing JFG, completed it. Can't remember the final boss???...at all...? Left no impression on me (might be due to my inebriated Uni years though). The game though, brilliant blast.
Ronnie Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Maybe not my favourite of all time but certainly up there. Bowser battles haven't really stood out for me as anything more than meh most of the time but the chase through that final level with him shooting fireballs at you was INTENSE, heart pounding stuff. Especially the special world version where his attacks are even quicker. And at the very end where you're running towards the screen, 3D slider on, jumping over obstacles as he gives chase. Epic.

I agree that was an epic boss as Mario goes!!
Oxigen_Waste Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Final bosses are rarely the best bosses in any given game. However... Metroid Prime is the right answer. And Super Metroid. Pure gameplay, just fucking amazing all the way through!
D_prOdigy Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Again, it's probably going to be from a childhood game - those memories stick with you forever! Gen I/II (maybe even III) Pokémon champions are battles I have very fond memories of. I remember finding Sonic Adventure 2's final boss sequence (both of them) hard as nuts. But I might have to go for Metroid Prime just for the music Audio
