Aneres11 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I downloaded the 3ds demo last night - the game play wasn't too bad at all but the game looked like ass. Dat compressed video work Looked terrible. Definitely gonna try the Wii U version out tonight which I expect to be a lot better. The 3ds version seemed like the type of game to buy once the price had dropped - but I don't think I could even stretch at a tenner for it!
RedShell Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Tried the Wii U demo this morning. I like how it made a point of telling me that "the save file can carry over to the full game, so try to collect lots of items to take with you!" I'm like "what, from the 1 stage that you're letting me play?" Yeah... there's gonna be so many items.
Cube Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 You also get bombarded with items from Miiverse. I had to turn that option off.

Kav Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 So I decided to finally put this on and give it a whirl. Now bear in mind that I admittedly have only played the first 4 or 5 levels, but they have been so mind-numbingly dull I have to ask... does this game actually get good? Now I'd not normally judge a game so quickly but this seems to have sucked all the joy and fun out of me and has just stopped me wanting to play it. In such a way that I would imagine I could have a poo, flatten it, insert it into my WiiU and would get more joy out of it. It's like Nintendoland, whenever I play it, it makes me want to go in the Bad Stuff Thread and post how it makes me feel depressed... how is it that a game can just put you off gaming all of a sudden..? Seriously, I can't bring myself to play it. It's a chore to play... kind of like cleaning the toilet, just not as fun.
S.C.G Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 I does get better, but then I suppose it helps that I actually liked the game from the start and then grew to love it by the end. Maybe it was just me but I still stand behind giving the game 9/10 as it's still easily the best Sonic game in a long time. : peace: Just not as good as the Megadrive originals, obviously.
Aneres11 Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Hmm - well I've whacked this on my Christmas list for a family member to buy me as they moaned I hadn't told them what I wanted so thought this would be a good fit. I love Sonic, and liked the demo - and I like how warmly a lot of people spoke of the game, so it can't be that bad!! I'm actually really looking forward to playing it Christmas day to be honest!
Hero-of-Time Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 It's a good game but excels only when you are trying to get the Red Star Coins. If you have no interest in obtaining them then you can blitz the game and it could be a very dull experience.

The problem I've had so far is that I've no interest in playing it at all, never mind finding star coins.
Hero-of-Time Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 The problem I've had so far is that I've no interest in playing it at all, never mind finding star coins. I see. Then just don't play it then. It's pointless forcing yourself to play a game if you aren't enjoying it.

Wish I liked Sonic games but I think I definitely don't.
Retro_Link Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Yeah other than the Sonic Adventure games which I adored, and Colours, I just can't get on with Sonic games.
f00had Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Have you remembered to press ZR to run? also tap the ? icon when it appears on the touch screen for more hints.
Lens of Truth Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 (edited) I've had a bit of an up and down with this game. At first I loved it - the music, the graphics (wow, those colours pop), the retro nods, the relative precision of control vs previous 3D Sonics. By about world 4 though I started to feel some of the level design was weak. Frozen Factory 1 is pretty dreadful. The Mario-Galaxy-but-not elements don't provide a flattering comparison either, constantly reminding you of all you take for granted in a first party Nintendo title. The story scenes are ok and seem better if you turn the voices to Japanese, there's just too many of them. Bosses are also uniformly uninspired. The single most annoying flaw is that 100 rings no longer get you an extra life (what on earth were they thinking?) and you need them badly for the red coins! I'm getting back into it now and the levels seem to be picking up. When everything works in harmony it's a pretty fun ride. Also: Audio The section beginning at 0:53 with that downward sax crawl (which I'd have repeated for good measure) takes me right back to Sandopolis and Marble Zone. Pitch perfect Sonic music. Another two favs: Audio Audio They seem even better in tandem with the gameplay, really working their magic. Hope you enjoy it @Aneres11 Edited December 10, 2013 by Lens of Truth

Yeah, the ring thing was one of my biggest gripes with the game, especially as the game can be a little unforgiving at times. Eventually I found a good place to nab a bunch of lives at a time and just grinded that area until I had a healthy supply.
Lens of Truth Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 *Checks back in thread* The lives system is a bit of a mess, as I explained on the previous page. I had to go to 2-2 and just grind lives in the same spot until I had a decent amount to go red star ring hunting. Not getting an extra life for nabbing 100 rings is a joke. What the hell are the rings for now then? Purely score and taking hits? Ah yeah, I think I know the spot. Luckily it's a fairly fun stage. I'll keep that in mind
Ike Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 The story scenes are ok and seem better if you turn the voices to Japanese I actually don't like the Japanese Sonic voice actors. It's one of the few times I prefer the English ones.
Cube Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 They should just remove lives anyway. They've been pointless in most big platformers for at least 17 years.
Mr-Paul Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I've just played the demos of both the Wii U and 3DS version. Preferred the latter considerably more, apart from the quality of the cut scenes. I think that the controls just feel a lot more suited to the 3DS, and the level design actually more fun. Whether that translates to the full game is a different matter, but yeah, not the greatest first impression from the Wii U version.
yesteryeargames Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 SEGA has prepared a new update for Sonic Lost World on Wii U. The full patch notes can be found below. Gameplay Updates: • Collecting 100 rings will now grant the player an extra life. • In the event of a Game Over, we have doubled the amount of lives the player will begin with when continuing. (From 5 to 10) • The Indigo Asteroid, Crimson Eagle, Orange Rocket, and Black Bomb Color Powers can now be controlled using the analog stick and buttons. • Fixed a rare graphical issue that would sometimes appear during the pinball section of the Frozen Factory casino area. Additional Updates: • When completing the NiGHTMARE DLC, users will be notified that they can re-play it after scoring 100,000 points. • Items will now appear on the world map. Source
Dcubed Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 I bet that the 100 rings not granting you a life was a bug originally. It's such a bizarre change that I find it almost impossible to believe otherwise because they were practically useless without giving you lives.
Cube Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 • The Indigo Asteroid, Crimson Eagle, Orange Rocket, and Black Bomb Color Powers can now be controlled using the analog stick and buttons. Considering how awful the motion controls were on them, this sounds like a great change.
Lens of Truth Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Some lovely concept art on Sega's blog: http://blogs.sega.com/2013/12/11/sonic-lost-world-concept-art-environments/?0=1 The glimpse of classic Sonic in a few of these makes me wonder if he'd have better fitted the vibe of this game, signalling the change in gameplay style and speed.
