Wii U eShop Thread

Recommended Posts

Yeah this would be annoying... Tricky for them as they want a surprise each day, but also they may lose sales for people waiting on a game that never comes. personally the sale is so piss poor I think they could've gotten away with telling us what was coming up.

For me the sale was great, but I have just bought the console, but It is true that giving only their best titles on sale isn't the best idea as most people already have the games.

Now, I am just waiting to get Link in Hyrule Warriors instead od Zelda WW....

yeah...it would have been better if they had bigger discounts.. I probably would have gone for Kirby.. just with my backlog I'll only get games if the price is Super low.

Xenoblade Chronicles is 9,99 euros and Bayonetta 2 i 29,99 euros.

I really hope it has nothing to do with the 4th day of sales.

But it has.... I can't believe it. So I have missed on 3 titles and still didn't get Zelda, or at least Hyrule Warriors.

NoE offers do really suck.

Toki Tori 2 2.99 euros, i think I will buy it again (I've got it for PC, but I just don't get to play it on it, plus the controls are a bit complicated with a 3rd party controller - it works, but it's more complicated than it should be).

What about this game: Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure?

I see it's a Wii game, but it's listed on the eShop, not VC, does it mean it's remastered, or?

As I have missed on some games (especially Wonderfull 101) I am thinking of getting something else as I have the money now.

Nah, it's the Wii version. Nintendo dropped the "Virtual Console" name.

If I recall correctly, Wii games are not technically Virtual Console, as they are not emulated. They don't have the features of VC (ie. Restore Points) and they run directly off the Wii U hardware. It's exactly like downloading a Wii U game off the eShop.

Well, disappointed by the final cyber deals day! Was really hoping to see Hyrule Warriors discounted, would have snapped it up straight away!

Annoyingly, if I had known I would have bought DK Tropical Freeze instead! However Microsoft came up trumps today and picked up Rare Replay for £12.99. May as well be an eshop game...

Hmm, I do have Stealth Inc 2 on PC, but will probably get it on the Wii U as I will have no problem with controlers, plus the off TV play.

That, The Swapper, Nova-111 and maybe Thomas Was Alone are the games I am interested at, I just have to be carefull as I have found a nice offer for a preowned Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze so I can't spend all the money :D, plus I am waiting for Christmas sale, maybe the will offer something I really want.

Virtual Console (Wii U)

Super Mario 64 DS (Nintendo DS), Nintendo – £8.99 (€9.99)

This 3D action game was one of the most popular launch titles of the Nintendo DS. In comparison with the original Super Mario 64, this version adds a variety of new features that are sure to please both newcomers and veterans, including three new playable characters (Luigi, Yoshi and Wario) who can be unlocked during Mario’s quest, each coming with their unique abilities. The game also features new stages and updates the completion challenge from 120 to 150 Power Stars.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (SNES), Nintendo – £5.49 (€7.99)

The Mushroom Kingdom faces a new threat when a giant sword falls from the sky and lays chaos upon the land. Mario must gather a crew of unexpected allies to take on the nefarious Smithy Gang! Before Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi, the first Role-Playing Game featuring Mario was this celebrated collaboration between Nintendo and the makers of Final Fantasy, Squaresoft (now Square Enix). Many players hold fond memories of the witty dialogue and colourful characters like Mallow and Geno. If you own this title on your Wii, perform a system transfer from your Wii to your Wii U to receive a special upgrade price. This is the US version of the game.

Wii U Download Software

Kung Fu FIGHT!, Nostatic Software – £1.49 (€1.99)

I've never played Mario RPG but always heard good things so might give this a punt. I love Paper Mario 1 & 2 but can take or leave Mario&Luigi so where would you guys say this game lands compared to those two series?

I think Super Mario RPG is the perfect "beginner's RPG". It's not insultingly easy, but won't challenge RPG veterans too much.

Basically Square was trying to get Mario fans to try RPG's and it worked well.

The battles are closer to Paper Mario than M&L.

It has action commands, but has a hint of Final Fantasy to it. (Shouldn't be surprising, really, seeing as Square made it)

It's definitely worth a go if you like Paper Mario, but just remember, it's a product of it's time, so expect some slightly awkward isometric platforming and some amazingly obtuse optional secrets (The best armour and weapon in the game are almost impossible to find, not that it's really required)

Humour and soundtrack are top notch though.

The game likes to play on Mario's ability to jump really high and his refusal to speak. (This was before Mario 64, after all) And it's genuinely funny.

If you were looking for a list of best to worst, then I would say...

Bowser's Inside Story > Thousand Year Door > Dream Team > Paper Mario > Mario RPG > Superstar Saga > Partners In Time

Should point out that I still really like Partners In Time, and I'm not counting Super Paper Mario and Sticker Star because they're not RPG's

I also haven't played Paper Jam

I would generally say that SMRPG ers closer to Mario & Luigi than Paper Mario. The isometric perspective is similar (but not the same as the 3/4 top-down view as M&L1-3), there's a much bigger focus on platforming than in the Paper Mario games, it features a ton of non-Mario characters and they share the same music composer (actually, Alphadream is primarily made up of ex Squaresoft staff who worked on SMRPG, so the M&L series is actually basically a direct successor from the same team ;) )

The isometric perspective does make for some awkward moments (now HERE's a game that begs for the 3D Classics treatment!) and there are some really obtuse secrets (don't even bother trying for 100% completion without a guide) but it's a great game though. An absolute classic for sure! : peace:

Also one of those rare few 16 bit RPGs that got a great localisation as well! It's very funny and well done (though with some strange pop culture references thrown in that do stand out as a bit odd, Bruce Lee? Really?)

This is true as well. So Paper Mario-ish battles with M&L-ish overworld.

Woah!!

Noitu Love Devolution is finally coming to Nintendo platforms! :D

This one was announced for WiiWare way back in the day, but its development was cancelled along the way.

Now coming to Wii U with Wii Remote/Nunchuck controls (Pointer controls for the onscreen cursor) and Gamepad controls (Touch Screen for the onscreen cursor) and 3DS (Touch Screen controls for the onscreen cursor).

I was always so disappointed that it never came out on Wii, since it was always a natural fit. Nice to see that it's finally coming in the end! Really looking forward to this one! :yay:
