Captain America: The First Avenger

Filming for one of Marvel's highly anticipated movies of 2011, Captain America: The First Avenger, is well underway overseas in the UK. And yesterday, The Media Club visited the highly secretive set after receiving a sneaky tip from a friend that the filming was taking place near his home. You can check out some pics he took below, and everything that occurred while he was there.

"After trekking through the Bourne Woods in Farnham, Surrey, for about 10 minutes we reached a perimeter which, due to health and safety reason (AKA massive explosions etc), we were not allowed to cross… so we didn’t. There were some tanks and some fellas chilling out in army uniforms, just then I noticed a man with a dirty blonde grown-out military haircut and I pointed for my friend to see. At this point a northern security woman tottered over to ask us if we were okay, to which we replied “yesâ€. We then began having a friendly chat to the woman about the location that has been previously used in Gladiator, Children of Men, Harry Potter, Wolfman and the more recent Robin Hood. We then asked her what was going on currently- with all the military vehicles and alike. At this point a rather serious looking gentleman came over and began to explain that the production was that of a upcoming World War 2 film with the ridiculous name ‘Frostbite’. We pretended to eat up his barrel of lies until he went on his busy way (which took all of 2 seconds). The security lady then seemed rather proud of their deception before she noticed us whispering and giggling- like girls. She once again asked us if we were ok; this was the point at which our visit turned. We responded by informing her that we knew it wasn’t ‘Frostbite’, she played dumb and asked us what we ‘thought’ we knew. “Well,†I began “that guy over there is watching a Captain America Tshirt, that massive sticker on that trailer has Captain America on it, that’s Hayley Atwell (the female lead in the film) and we just saw Chris Evans (the actor playing Steve Rogers AKA Cpatain America) walking past in the costume barely covered by a trench coat.†This did have a shocking effect on the security woman, and she rudely claimed that we knew more than she did. She took a few steps back and we continued to talk quietly amongst ourselves behind the barrier. About a minute later a tall man walked towards and told us we were being ‘a nuisance’ we apologised and told him we were unaware; he then continued and told us that he was calling the police and that we would be arrested. At this point I wondered on what charges this could take place, he continued to glare at us. “Manners cost nothing, my friend†I replied. He didn’t take too kindly to this recommendation and we walked off."

Basically, he says it was very exciting to see Chris Evans in costume, the film set is looking good and the production is obviously being taken very seriously (as it should because Captain America is awesome) and the shoot is being kept on the super-secret down-low but regrettably some of the crew are taking things very seriously"

With Joe Johnston at it’s helm, Captain America: The First Avenger stars Chris Evans as the Captain, Hugo Weaving (Red Skull), Tommy Lee Jones (Gen. Chester Philips), Sebastian Stan (Bucky), Stanley Tucci (Abraham Erskine), Hayley Atwell (Peggy Carter), Toby Jones (Arnim Zola), Dominic Cooper (Howard Stark), Neal McDonough (Dum Dum Dugan), and Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury). Filming continues overseas in England, UK.

And Marvel’s adaptation of the historical figure charges into theaters July 22, 2011.

British newspaper, The Daily Mail, have got their hands on some truly amazing pictures from the a London countryside filming location of Captain America: The First Avenger and here is an excerpt of their report as well as each of the downright amazing looking pictures! There are plenty of great details on display here including wings on Cap's helmet (almost identical to those seen recently in "Captain America: Reborn") as well as some downright strange looking bad guys who if you look closely enough have the HYDRA symbol on both their bikes and on the hood ornament of the car!

And today his stunt double was snapped in a leafy London location, dressed in full regalia, riding a US Army Indian motorcycle.

True to the original character, the costume comprised the colours of the American flag, complete with a huge star on the chest, helmet and cape.

There was also a magnificent Forties-style car on set, which was seen being driven through a woodland location, as well as some more futuristic looking motorcycles.

^ well at least you just wasted 10 secs posting that!

I don't understand the part of the stunt guy... surely the real Cap uniform is armoured right... thus shouldn't his be armoured?... why's it all rubbery?

Plus he's pretty chubby... so he best just be used for distance shots/being blown off the bike etc...

It will be distance shots.... As for the costume, it will look totally different after masses of post-production.

Its funny, when I first started reading comics I thought Captain America was just a really stupid character and I wouldnt read any of that patriotic nonsense. When people started going on about how good Brubakers run on it was I gave it a shot and it really is amazing how one writer can make a character like that appealing. Captain America went from a character I had absolutely no interest in to one of the most important and interesting in the Marvel Universe.

I suppose it will look good when they computerize everything.

That's the thing. It depends wholly on the writer of the comic.

Shadowcat is literally my favourite thing to have ever happened to Marvel after the Breakworld Saga. It's so weird considering I hated the whole concept of her before I read that arc.
