There are a lot of FPS games arriving this year and early next year, I know that it's my favourite genre (although my interest may wane this time next year*), and so the library of choice is looking quite exciting. Thing is, nothing's making me go 'wow' yet. Maybe I'd feel differently if I had a 360 so I could buy Reach?

Anyway, here's the shortlist:

-Halo Reach

-Rage

-Crysis 2

-Call of Duty: Black Ops

-Fallout New Vegas (don't moan at its inclusion)

-Brink

-Bulletstorm

-XCOM

-Medal of Honour

-Killzone 3

-Deus Ex

Tell me if I've missed anything.

I was thinking of posting footage of them all, but currently cannae be arsed. I'd be very greatful if a certain someone could spoiler all of the above in trailer form.

-------

As for me, Fallout New Vegas is the most exciting, just because 3 was absolutely brilliant, and from the snippets of gameplay this looks to be familiar.

Brink is also very interesting, the online has obviously been thought about, and the way they're mixing things up may reinvigorate multiplayer.

Other than that, I have a remote interest in what Treyarch are planning for the next Cod multiplayer. Will they appease the audience, or will they keep the flaws that previous iterations had? I don't want another MW2 happening.

-------

So what are you guys looking forward to?

*I probably won't get bored of them

I'll probably get Halo Reach because it's pretty much required. Peer pressure more than I really, really want it.

I'll probably also get Fallout New Vegas. The rest I don't see as lasting for much longer after completing it once, so I'll probably rent the rest (although I've never heard of XCOM).

I probably say probably a bit too much.

As awesome as Halo is, I'm just a bit bored of it.

I'm not especially looking forward to any FPSs, excet Killzone 3 with Move. It'll be good to see how that works out. Next year.

Definitely New Vegas, although it's not typical FPS fair (I didn't really play 3 like an FPS).

Reach because Firefight 2.0 and Co-op.

Rage....eventually.

Meh to the rest, and Cube XCOM is an old sort of Tactical Strategy game....kinda big backlash from old fans that it's being turned into an FPS.

XCOM is being created by the Bioshock people I think (2K?), it looks kind of weird, but you can tell where its origins came from.

Killzone 3 with Move is going to be win, but in 2010, the best multiplayer aside from Reach has gotta be Brink.

Watch from 2:30 or so if you're interested.

RAGE, Brink, Crysis 2, Bulletstorm and XCOM are all 2011 releases.

Reach is all you need this year anyway. Unless you don't like Halo, obviously, but by the looks of things you'll be sick of shooting guns by this time next year regardless given the volume of games coming out; we're in for another packed first quarter, it seems.

Losetube. I at least thought Crysis 2 was December. Ahh well, include Killzone and stuff as well in that case.

They delayed Crysis 2 yesterday, so I'm not surprised you missed it. It'll be coming out sometime January-March 2011.

If we're just talking near-future, I'm interested in Killzone 3 and (hopefully) Resistance 3. Obviously I'm not making much of a judgement on the latter, though. Outside of those I think I'll be well sated for FPS games, unless you want to drag Deus Ex 3 under that umbrella.

Oh, Medal of Honour is this year. Not sure if anyone cares about that, though.

I knew I'd forgotten something, was intending to write it down. But meh, it looks pretty shite, run of the mill rubbish. People say it's a lot more like Cod but it's so god damn similar to BF I don't know why they do.

KZ2 & Res 2 served me well for 6 months, so to see them both again would be fantastic. Really interested in seeing Res3 multiplayer, because the first 2 online were vastly different to each other, but both awesome. I loved the arcade style and the weapons etc. Rargh, stop teasing me Insomniac.

Reach on the 360, CoD on the PS3. Those two are more than enough for me.

The FPS used to be my favourite genre, but I prefer shooting people in the face in the 3rd person perspective, such as Gears of War and SOCOM.

Regardless of what year they're coming out.

Ehm, from your list, Crysis. I was a fan of the original, I hope they optimized the code so it'll run as smooth or hopefully smoother than Crysis 1 did (but.. Probably not). Even on my monstermachine, I had to set it at the 2nd best setting, and even then there was the occasional framedrop (videocards == bottleneck). I love the urban setting much more than the island setting. What I don't like is that it seems to be a "reboot" of some sorts (that word is more and more leaving a bad taste in my mouth). I like my continuity, thanks.

Also, definitely looking forward to what Id software's cooking up.

I had a interest in Brink when it was announced, but it has waned in the meantime. I'm still curious, but it's not high on my priority list right now.

I'm not going to moan about it, but Fallout is not what I'm considering for my next FPS fix. Neither is X-Com, but that said, I'm really looking forward to that, maybe even the most of the games you mention. I never played the original games, but I read the IGN hands-on, and it's looking great. Well, not litterally, the trailer looked a bit crap visually, I should say, it's looking fun

You forgot Medal of Honour, but I can't say anything about that, haven't seen any gameplay video's. I'd like to know first what multiplayer is like.

And, like I said, I don't care what year it's coming out, so also very high on my priority list is Deus Ex.

Don't care about the next CoD (maybe the next Modern Warfare, but that remains to be seen), and Halo isn't an option.

Can't think of any other FPS games at the moment, well, yeah, I'm waiting for a patch for Blacklight, and after that I'll see if Blacklight 2 is without the oversights of the first.

Aside from MAG I am tried of the genre. Nothing coming out is as fresh as MAG. Easily my favourite fps to come out since BF2. MAG is the game others will copy. The overall design aspect of the game is amazing compared to current fps. Also love how random games are more organised than most games clan matches. I barely sleep because of this game. Game updates this year include 3 way faction maps.

Killzone 3 could be good if they listen to the KZ2 players and not the COD/BC2 crowd. That game had a lot of great ideas and the best clan system to date. But if they listen to the wrong complainers the game will appeal to no one. The last patches on KZ2 were a result of listening to the wrong people. Overpowered air bots so crap players could get their trophy.

Socom I am now looking forward to thanks to MAG. Zipper know their shooter design! Not sure about single player though. Sony should understand that if they want to do multi player only, let them. Leave EA/DICE to do the watering down.

Battlefield 3. Was my big one but EA/DICE have practically dumbed down the franchise so much there doesn't seem to be much hope. Also what's with linking BF and MOH betas? They are vastly different games why should players be forced to play both. Having said that Current BF2 leaderboards show less than 350,000 unique players to date... EA will follow the sales and thats where BC2 wins hands down. The franchise is pretty much changed forever and for the worst. :weep:

Halo looks fine but going all EA/Activision with franchise milking lately wasnt smart. But since its Bungies last Halo I hope its a great.

Crysis 2- Nothing worthwhile shown yet. First game was good. This game seems to be dumbed down for mutliplatform development yet doesnt seem to address issues the last game had... Fighting aliens in the first game was not exactly as good as the humans.

Black Ops: COD again.

MOH: COD Again. With slightly less cheapness. Why bundle the beta with BC2 buyers? I wont know. Its like COD not BC2.

Reach will be bought as I'm genuinely interested in the new Forge mode they're doing. Looks vastly improved in that aspect. It'll also provide some good fun online as I have to admit that I've yet to grow tired of Halo 3 online in the same way I have with many other online shooters.

May give a look to Medal of Honor, although I know a lot of people will automatically write it off, if they haven't done so already. Will be interesting to see if attitudes change if the game starts getting high review scores (although honestly, low to mid 8s is where I see it coming in).

Black Ops will probably be a purchase as well. Treyarch do get a lot of crap when it comes to their CoD games but I've enjoyed their games and do think this one might be interesting, although I think it's heading towards being more like Modern Warfare than I'd care it to.

That's it for this year's shooter really. Definitely interested in Brink as I like the look of the gameplay mechanics and it should be a good online cooperative experience, providing there are enough players, as well as Deus Ex and perhaps New Vegas (although I'm not sure I'm going to have the time to invest in another big RPG like that again given the amount of time I spent in Fallout 3).

And Dwarf, not starting an argument but I do find it interesting that your quick to crap on any Wii FPS yet you're excited for Killzone 3 with Move controls, which will work largely like most Wii shooters. I'm not knocking the game or the controls and I'll give it a try should I be able to afford it, because I'll always try something first before making a complete judgment, but I do find it interesting that your mind is set up that way.

If you read some of my posts in that god-forsaken shithole of a board, you'd find me 'complimenting' the controls and being intrigued for games like The Conduit, and the new Goldeneye. I said when I bought a PS3 that I'd like Wii controls for my shooters, I just never thought it would happen. I don't necessarily think aiming is easier with a pointer, but it is more fun. Of course I trolled in the board, and even though I wasn't being (100%) serious, people took offense by the humour, which is hardly surprising as at least half the regulars there are braindead.

I was tempted to buy The Conduit for a Wii-owning friend just so I could have a go myself, plus if I'm round it's always tempting to try Cod WaW.

As for Killzone - it's a lot different to any other FPS, but people judge it without playing it. They did make some things really annoying in the multiplayer, as Choze said, the patches made the bots tremendously enfuriating, but it just needs a few tweaks and it'll be there.

I didn't mention Killzone 3 but I am interested to see how it plays out, although not overly fussed for the 3D. Everything I've seen so far definitely looks interesting and should make for an enjoyable experience, much more so than the one in the previous game (I didn't enjoy the single player in KZ2). Hopefully, as you say, they do the right tweaks for the multiplayer as I did enjoy that quite a bit. Just sort the balance out a little and some of the atrocious connection issues I met and it'll be in the right place. Not sure whether Move will improve it but as I said, I'll give it a go. At least standard control setup is there if I want it, which is something Wii shooters should really make use of.

Lolz. (I know what you mean)

But yeah, campaigns in FPS suck balls unless they're futuristic or quirky in my opinion. KZ2 was terrible in that department.

Connection issues? I haven't experienced any, the problems I have are in the loading times, and that matches can feel a bit sluggish. The weighty feel is good but sometimes you want to get moving and get into the action faster.

Plus, many of the maps were designed terribly, Guerilla doesn't know what they're doing in that regard. Vetka Cruiser was probably the only really well designed map, the rest, while some of them good, have a lot of flaws and generally have boring expanses and needless sections.

Anyone not popping a boner over Reach is either:

A) Wrong.

B) Unable to watch the various videos about Forge World, Firefight 2.0, Multiplayer, Campaign and all the rest.

C) Of questionable moral fiber and prone to sexual deviancy.

It's good Dr.Dare, but not the experience everyone is after.

It just isn't worth buying a system and Live etc for one.

Put me down as a "C". I mean, I'm not NOT excited by it, but I do feel like I've got all the FPS's I need right now. I'm kinda FPS'd out.

You're both terrible human beings.

Believe me, I want it a lot. But very few games would make me buy a system. In fact, I can't think of any game that would make me.

I suppose I'm B since I'm far to lazy to watch any videos.
