Dante Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 (edited) Press Release: Gaming visionary American McGee returns to Wonderland as Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) and Spicy Horse Games announce Alice: Madness Returns™, the dark and deranged sequel to the year 2000 PC hit, American McGee’s Alice™. Designed with the same dark style of the original, but now featuring entirely new visuals, story and game design, Alice: Madness Returns is a fun and addictive action adventure set to release on PC, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system. The game follows Alice on a journey through a wildly corrupted and shattered Wonderland to uncover the truth behind her haunted past and tortured psyche. In this journey, players will romp through highly-detailed elaborate worlds, encounter a cast of off-beat characters and engage in epic battles with deadly weapons and sinister villains. “We can’t wait to share our vision with Alice in Wonderland fans and gamers around the world.†“Alice is a classic fiction, infinitely rich with memorable characters, places and experiences. Our approach to Alice: Madness Returns takes this colorful world and reinvents it with psychotic personalities and pervasive insanity,†said American McGee, Spicy Horse Games Co-Founder and Senior Creative Director. “We can’t wait to share our vision with Alice in Wonderland fans and gamers around the world.†Alice: Madness Returns takes place 10 years after the conclusion of the original game, with Alice struggling to recover from the emotional trauma of losing her entire family in a fatal fire. After spending a decade institutionalized in an insane asylum, she is finally released to the care of a psychiatrist who just may be able to help her conquer the nightmarish hallucinations that still haunt her. Alice embarks on a mission to root out the true cause of her family’s mysterious death, jumping from a gloomy and stark London to a rich and provocative Wonderland. “In 2000, we launched a cult hit on the PC with American McGee’s Alice. Ten years later, I’m pleased to announce American is back on board leading the top-rate talent at Spicy Horse Games to create this sequel,†said David DeMartini, Senior Vice President and General Manager of EA Partners. “The Alice in Wonderland fiction continues to be a fan favorite all over the world. We can’t wait for them to experience the next chapter with Alice: Madness Returns.†Alice: Madness Returns will be available in 2011 for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Trailer Teaser Screens: Art: Look more interesting than the original game. Edited July 20, 2010 by Dante
Nolan Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Well for one it definitely looks pretty! That's one really ugly-looking game. The first two posts in direct opposition. The geometry and textures are rather poor, but the models look quite nice and I can overlook anything else in the graphics for the great use of beautiful vibrant colors.
arnold Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Best news I read today, loved the first one, though i didn't finish as I stupidly Saved it as I died and couldn't be arsed to start it all again >>
Cube Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 The geometry and textures are rather poor, but the models look quite nice and I can overlook anything else in the graphics for the great use of beautiful vibrant colors. If they went with simpler/more stylised models and textures then it would work really well.
Wesley Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 And why are the models and texturing poor? Care to annotate the screenshots for us?
Nolan Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 I think the models are great actually. Not all but most of the textures have a very flat look to them, such as the tiles in the 3rd pic. They have no illusion of depth in between each tile. In the fourth screen where Alice is standing exemplifies poor texturing and geometry at once. Actually, that's the only example of poor geometry, that rock just looks bad, low poly and a horrible likely placeholder texture. Honestly I'd expect the graphics to improve at least a little before release anyways. Perhaps some higher resolution textures and upping the polygon counts. What I noted in the 4th screen is definitely worse looking than in the other 3, so I'd bet it's an earlier version.
jayseven Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Conceptually sounds good - never played the first game (but always saw it on the shelf and thought "ooooh I'd probably like that!" But yeah, currently looks like an average/clumsy game.

bryanee Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 I've just started playing this and I'm really enjoying it and I adore the artstyle. Who knew Unreal Engine 3 could make such beautiful bright colours and animate long wavy hair. I also got a code for the first game, for some reason though you need the disc in to play even though its nearly a gig download. Right now I cant see why it didnt review better, seems like a gamers game.

Magnus Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 Yes, new copies ship with a download code for the first game.
bryanee Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 From what I can gather you need the Alice 2 disc in to play the first even though its nearly a gig download.
Aneres11 Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 Just thought i'd post to say I started this game today after receiving it from LoveFilm. First impressions are really good. Very very strange story - difficult to follow but not sure if that's because I never played the first game. The game looks stunning and is definitely an interesting take on Wonderland. It controls well, very fluid. Only thing i'm not enjoying at the minute is the length of the chapters! Subchapters may have worked better! Will post when I have finished the game with what I thought.
The Peeps Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 This has been on my interest list but I think I'll wait to pick it up cheap
