Owen Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 (edited) Borrowed from Kotaku: Nintendo president Satoru Iwata revealed the new game in a presentation to investors this week as part of a show of confidence about Nintendo's upcoming game line-up. The user-made avatars for the Wii, your Miis, will be the stars of this party game. "As you know, 'Wii something' are the titles that we use only with software that Nintendo has developed exclusively for Wii with the aim to make them marquee titles for Wii," Iwata said. "We are developing this game with the aim to make it a marquee party game for Wii. "The developers are spending significant time for this title so that they can include elements that are must-haves in a party game as well as making sure that adequate volume of game play are available. We are developing it with the intent that every Wii player will be able to find a game that can be enjoyed. In a game play mode called 'Living Party,' there are unique game play only available with the Wii Remote." Iwata boasted that some 160-million Miis have been created by Wii owners in the U.S., Japan and parts of Europe, making it "a natural move for your Miis and your friends' and family members' Miis to show up in a Wii party games." Iwata referred to Wii Party as the company's first "marquee party game" since 2007's Mario Party 8. He said the game will be out during Nintendo's current financial year, which ends on March 31, 2010. We're checking with Nintendo of America to see if the game will be coming to the U.S (and Europe of course but we're never mentioned..haha). Retro_Link Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 (edited) Hmm... so a new Mario Party... but without the instant charm! But it's bound to be a lot of fun, given the latest games in Wii Fit Plus like the Obstacle course, Chicken flight, Bubble River etc... Edited May 7, 2010 by Retro_Link
STOOPIDDITTIES Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 (edited) So rather than make Mario Party 9 they're going to make a game that will be unrecognisable from the rest of the shovelware in the market? Edited May 7, 2010 by STOOPIDDITTIES
S.C.G Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Erm... yay I guess... *goes back to playing Sin and Punishment 2*

Owen Posted May 7, 2010 Author Posted May 7, 2010 I think it's a great idea..looks a bit rough round the edges..but is still early days! Basically it's like the wii-fit mini-games online, right? The more of this stuff they unleash now..the chances of Zelda making E3 are higher..we would all have been pissed if they announced this at E3 and not our beloved Zelda..haha
killer kirby Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 (edited) Wii...party...Hmm...very very very very surprised as a matter of fact, I really thought they would have announced the next Mario Party game since the only one on the Wii sold like hot cakes unlike the Gamecube ones...and with the big boost of Mario sales...I am very surprised.... EDIT: While I am on about Mii's...NOA!!! YOU PRICKS!!! I want this game more then anything!!! I really want Tomodachi Collection Edited May 7, 2010 by killer kirby
mcj metroid Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 oh holy jesus. so what wii sports and resort wernt party games? Its a great idea from nintendos point but am.. not the best indicator if this is their best at e3... On the other hand show off the shit now and leave the good stuff till e3. Im tired of them nintendo. The wii has made me tire so much of party games. they're CLEARLY running out of ideas.

Ganepark32 Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 ....Or perhaps they're announcing the crap Wii games before E3 to leave more room for the bigger games on the Wii such as all those series you named Retro.......... What, a man can dream can't he
Serebii Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 So they show it to reassure their investors? Seriously?
Ren of Heavens Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Not surprised at all. Nintendo have released a super-mainstream family game every year: 2006 - Wii Sports 2007 - Mario Party 8 2008 - Mario Kart Wii 2009 - Wii Sports Resort Looks like this started out as Mario Party 9.
RedShell Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 I want this game more then anything!!! I really want Tomodachi Collection You are not alone my friend. Anyway, I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I've really enjoyed every single one of the "Wii Something" titles. Yeah, especially that one. And I'm sure it'll be no different with this, the more the merrier I say. : peace:

Hmm it doesn't seem like hudson are developing this and they made every single mario party game. Maybe they just dropped hudson and decided to go alone and hence mario party's demise. I believe the best party game nintendo made was warioware for the gamecube. It was awesome in multiplayer and they have never done it since So rather than make Mario Party 9 they're going to make a game that will be unrecognisable from the rest of the shovelware in the market? Cos that's what I get from it. :\ maybe they're thinking about quality here. As well as it sold mario party was poorly received for a long time, mainly because hudson were making them. wonder if it'll A) viatality sensor( more likely than the belows) B) use the zapper(unlikely) C) be on-line( I believe its 50-50 on that one) or d) use motionplus( unlikely)

Fierce_LiNk Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 There's not really a need to be "threatened" or "angered" by this. It's really made for a particular crowd. Possibly that Mario Party crowd, but maybe the same group who loved Wii Sports Resort. I enjoyed those games, in a different way to the way I enjoyed Metroid Prime, but I enjoy them. It would also be a bit daft to consider that this is allll Nintendo are working on. It's just another Nintendo game. Maybe one most of us will pass up on, but it's bound to bring some enjoyment to someone.
Josh64 Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 I wanted a Mario Party 9! The Wii seems like the perfect system for a Mario Party with motion controls yet all we got was Mario Party 8, which started out as a Gamecube game I believe? Despite the fact this won't have Mario and co, the other Wii something games have been good so hopefully this one will be too! Online would be great but I doubt it.
Jonnas Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Jesus Christ, people. Why do party games get so much hate these days? Seriously, what's up with the negativity? I'm so tired of people complaining about games that aren't targeted at them in the first place. Staying on-topic, I just hope it isn't like Mario Party, as it's too slow for a proper party game. Something like Wii Sports or WarioWare would be much better. Of course, I'll probably know more when commercials start airing, so I'll decide then.
LostOverThere Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Fairly interesting to see all the love from Mario Party. If my thoughts have served me, Mario Party games were always dull, overrated, and thoroughly boring. Wii Party sounds more enticing to me than Mario Party 9. Not that I'd buy either anyway; they're just not my kind of genre.

They're only really worth it if you have a looooot of time on your hands so that you can play with a lot of turns/rounds, three other friends and doritos.
