Shorty Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 The homing attack is just a total fail vs what they're aiming for. It's not even in rush, I don't understand it.
mcj metroid Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Well thank god THIS forum makes sense, you wouldn't believe the replies I'm getting on others. " sonic games have the challenge mario games lack" that's bloody one ha
Ike Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 The game still isn't finished, they are still tweaking the physics.
Shorty Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Coming out of a spin when you fly up a ramp needs more than a physics tweak. It seems to me that it's designed to make you hit the homing attack rather than just spin through enemies. Not only are they including this crappy move but coercing you into using it too! If you watch that video at 0:39 and don't feel a little rage inside, you're not a real Sonic fan! warning: post contains serious amounts of melodrama
Ike Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 No, I agree it does look bad. I was just pointing out the physics (and some possibly mechanic) weren't final since a couple of hand-ons said it didn't feel right, I didn't mean the ledge thing specifically.
S.C.G Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 (edited) FFS! Fix it Sega even if it takes Ages I don't care... just do it right for the love of Mobius! Edited June 20, 2010 by S.C.G
mcj metroid Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 http://screwattack.com/videos/Hands-On-Sonic-4-Episode-1-w-Craig-1 I bet my life it doesn't play like old-school sonic haha
ViPeR Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Who would've thought it'd be so hard to emulate a game this old, a game they made themselves no less. No doubt i'll probably get stuck in the 'it won't be right whatever we do' camp but that's not true. The physics still look like he's in outer space and this whole homing idea is just not needed. It's a shame really, if you can't do it right don't do it at all.
Diageo Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 There seems to be parts that u can make him spin when he's not spinning in mid air without doing the homing attack, in the video. Maybe its because he has nothing to home into....
mcj metroid Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 It's sad really that even gaming websites are saying this plays like the original titles when it most clearly doesn't. It's one of those games you don't even have to play to know.
ViPeR Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 I hope there's a demo for this before release. What are we looking at, 1200 points?
Happenstance Posted June 20, 2010 Author Posted June 20, 2010 Looking at the videos I dont think the homing attack looks as bad as I was expecting. To be honest I can live with it and will be getting the game anyway.
That Guy Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 I hope there's a demo for this before release. What are we looking at, 1200 points? There should just be a demo when it's out since it's an XBLA title.
Ryan Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 ...It doesn't look that bad... Seconded. I might buy it depending on the price..
ViPeR Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 There should just be a demo when it's out since it's an XBLA title. Ah yeh course. Won't be able to judge it properly until I get some playtime.
Shorty Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 I'll also admit that it doesn't look bad at all, I'm just not sure how they justified keeping that move in alongside their goals of recreating the old game feel. Not saying I won't enjoy it, we'll have to wait a few more months to see about that
Goafer Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Figured this was the most appropriate thread for this: If only we had some sort of thread for funny videos...
ReZourceman Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Well now we know what they were doing when they should have been doing final tweaks on the last decade of Sonic games.
CoolFunkMan Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 First wave of Sonic 4: Episode 1 changes announced. The minecart gimmick is gone, but replaced with a "torch-light" mechanic for that section. This lights up "pitch-black" areas of the level and can interact with the environment in different ways, such as blowing up walls to create new paths. There's also difficulty adjustments and Sonic's run animation has been improved. Source: http://www.tssznews.com/2010/08/19/running-animation-adjusted-difficulty-among-first-wave-of-sonic-4-changes/#more-14202 Sounds like a good few changes. The "torch" mechanic sounds odd though, but I prefer it to the minecart gimmick.
Shorty Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Torch sounds ok, Sonic games have occasionally had little twists (snowboarding section, pinball areas, ghosts/lights in S&K) and they've still been fun levels. Looking forward to giving this a try.
Cube Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Hopefully they've also altered the jump animation.
S.C.G Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Hopefully they've also altered the jump animation. This... c'mon Sega! you're on a roll atm, might as well give the fans exactly what they want from a 2D Sonic game, especially as it's being strung out episodically, because if the first ep is shit, not everyone will bother coming back for the rest... ... unless they're masochists. I jest... either way it's still looking to be one of the best Sonic games in years and it's hard to see how they can fuck it up now, then again, this is Sega.
Caris Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Don't see what's wrong with it myself, looks great.
