Daft Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 I played though a "year" and a half. The handling felt like a simulation (i.e. not fun) to me. I can't deal with simulators. GT just goes over my head. PGR is all about the parabolas. Ram up the speed, nail on the handbrake and then glide inches from the barriers. When you nail it with the camera that is closest to the road it's euphoric. I've played PGR ever since MSR. I wonder if they'll do a PGR5. I hated Forza. That felt like a simulation.
Beast Posted June 24, 2009 Author Posted June 24, 2009 Thank you all so much, you've been a massive help. I got some money off my aunt and my grandparents so I'mma check out Blockbusters and eBay. Mirror's Edge, Assassin's Creed and GTAIV look awesome. Street Fighter IV is an absolute must as well as DMC4. Resident Evil 5 I've borrowed of my mate and I've done quite a few achievements. My favourite being killing an enemie by a rotten egg. So why not Halo 3? OK, some might take offense to what I'mma say next so I'll put it in a spoiler tag: ...because I HATE HALO 3. No, I detest it. I liked Halo 1 and 2 but for some reason, I thought Halo 3 was so boring (apart from the last level) I might get Perfect Dark Zero as well. Looks like I'm going to Blockbusters tomorrow Just get Burnout Paradise and live. Yup, this is a must as well!!!
The fish Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 I can't deal with simulators. GT just goes over my head. PGR is all about the parabolas. For example: PGR discriminates against people who just hold down the throttle and never break. Cod4 doesn't require you to empty an entire magazine to kill someone, and requires use of sights. However, PGR doesn't have things like car damage or require you to fuck around with a cluch, whilst COD isn't a case of "you get clipped in the arm luckily from 4 miles away, DIE!". Come to think of it, in terms of popular current-times FPS's, there's a right way and a wrong way to do the balance of simulation and arcady-ness. COD4 is the right way, CSS is not.
Dyson Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Halo 3 I can understand that, but have you played the game in multiplayer? I'm sure you're aware already but that's truly where all the fun is. Assuming you're planning on getting Xbox Live of course?
jayseven Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 I think xb360 is definitely a console for Live/co-op gaming. If you have a handy gamer buddy that will frequently play with you, then Halo 3, Gears of War 1/2, Army of 2, Rainbow Six: Vegas 1/2 will all be way more enjoyable. Much more than their solo efforts. You seem to be enjoying Resi 5 - well trust me; the game was made for co-op. Single player ends up being massively frustrating.
Kirkatronics Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 I know you said not Halo 3, but get it anyway. Its nice to have it for if friends want to play, that way you might even get into it. From what ive seen of res 5, i hate it =/ Quick time events ruin games IMO. Anyway, get mass effect. you can pick it up for about 5-10 quid. I got mine for a fiver pre-owned.
dwarf Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 I borrowed The Orange Box off a mate that had the PS3 copy and the best thing about it is the developer commentary you unlock for Half-Life. It's just brilliant and gives you a better insight into what the game designers enjoyed and their thought processes. Such a good game. I haven't really tried TF2 properly though, despite everyone raving about it. I like the style, the shotgun looks awesome, but is there only one sort of desert style or are there more?

I love online co-op in games as it allows me to play with the lads from work. We've had so many good times playing online on Live that it's become my favourite console for multiplayer experiences. We are having a riot playing Ghostbusters at the moment
Kirkatronics Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 If anyone wants to go online at some point, just add me 'kirkatronics' Send me a PM so i know who you are if your name is different to your forum one.
That Guy Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 I played though a "year" and a half. The handling felt like a simulation (i.e. not fun) to me. The handling isn't sim-ish at all. The good cars are uncontrollable until you get good with the handling and handbrake.
Beast Posted June 27, 2009 Author Posted June 27, 2009 (edited) Probably a stupid question but I sort of have a problem.... Before I got the new 360, I had a broken one which I repaired along with a hard drive. I was playing RE5 on it and made a profile and got loads of achievements for it. When I got the new one with 60gb hard drive, I transferred the gamertag and done more achievements but couldn't play RE5 because of the saves on the other hard drive so I hadto switch hard drives to complete it. Now I've almost completed it and my question is: From my old HDD, can I add the gamerscore I got by RE5 from my old profile to the new one? Will it overwrite the entire thing if I do it? (They're both the same but on different HDD) (I really don't fancy completing RE5 again, lol.) So sorry if this sounds confusing. BTW, these suggestions sound awesome, I'mma download some of the demos tomorrow EDIT: Picked up a bargain. Just got CODWAW for £15. I'm still wondering about the above question but I think after I complete the last level of RE5, I'm just going to get the achievements and save over it. I got every one of them on LOST and I enjoyed the game so I won't mind doing it again The Chronicles of Riddick look awesome. I played the one on the normal XBox countless times so I'mma get that. Also SFIV and Gears 1 and 2. Lost Planet looks cool, what's your take on that guys? Edited June 27, 2009 by Animal
jayseven Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 If you transferred teh gamertag then I think you just need to hook the old hard drive to Live for your score to update? I think? Or maybe get a memory unit and transfer the save file?
Cube Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 Lost Planet looks cool, what's your take on that guys? It's the clunkiest game ever made.
Babooo Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 EDIT: Picked up a bargain. Just got CODWAW for £15. where from? I just bid £24 for this on ebay!
mcj metroid Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 I'm thinking of getting a 360 soon but am worried that there are no... Oh should I put this.... Colourful games... When I want a fps I'll buy one or 2 etc but the 360 seems to be full of them... Would I be better off with a ps3 altogether..? Games i'm interested in.. Assasins Creed street fighter iv(obviously ha ) banjo 3(is it any good?) Resident evil 5 bioshock Tales Of vesperia( I never played the others but this looks gorgeous) orange box most of these games are on ps3... in fact I think they all are.
dwarf Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 (edited) Banjo isn't, but there are many great and colourful games on PS3, like Killzone! :p But before another 'console war' (hate that term now) begins, it basically comes down to price (360 wins) how important blu-ray/1080p is to you and what exclusives you prefer. There are other minor factors like controller preference etc but the above is what it all boils down to. The exclusives made me buy the ps3, and I favour them over 360 greatly, but people like Dyson are utterly convinced the Playstation is a piece of trash, so maye I'm missing something. Waits for Choze to prove there is colour in KZ I'll give you a list of titles that made me get the PS3, but also confirmed my purchase was a good one. Video list pending. Well I say that but the document I have all the info in has been deleted, so gonna have to wait on this. Exclusives (at least timed): Uncharted: Drakes Fortune - see sequel video below Uncharted 2: Among Thieves - stunning animations and multiplayer added. Metal Gear Solid 4 - amazing game, hard to find decent gameplay videos, but just buy it. Resistance 2 - it's a solid shooter but It's my favourite for online pr0ness. Vid gives an idea of game. Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction - a colourful game for you. Great franchise. Also has sequel coming soon. (Crack in Time) Little Big Planet - another colourful game. Some levels are astounding. Motorstorm: Pacific Rift - a great racing game, brilliant art style as well. Killzone 2 - decent campaign but online is very fun and deep. Wipeout HD - amazing racing game, possibly my favourite of all time. Game only 1/3 of the price of a retail game yet has so much content, it's amazing value, only on PSN. Gran Turismo 5 - graphical showcase, even if it isnt your cup of tea. Must buy for me. God of War 3 - another masterpiece in terms of graphics. Looking forward to it. Infamous - so far it hasnt met my expectations but it is still good at worst. The Last Guardian - Highly anticipated because the developer has been known for it's incredible games. This looks great just from the trailer. The Agent - A rockstar exclusive, same team as GTA. Set in 70s, about stealth, sounds interesting. Heavy Rain - looks brilliant. More of a movie than a game but it looks really interesting and almost like a thriller film that you have control over. MAG - 256 players online.... Modnation Racers - Similar in vein to LBP, but racing. No videos that cut to the chase for this though. Anyway: Flower - Second PSN game I will post, it's a quirky and vibrant game that uses sixaxis effectively. Super Stardust HD - a great dual-stick shooter on PSN. Fat Princess - another promising PSN game, huge multiplayer game by the looks of things. Shatter - another promising PSN title. Who said brick games were a thing of the past? Embed doesn't seem to work, here's link: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/exclusive-debut-shatter/49224'>http://www.gametrailers.com/video/exclusive-debut-shatter/49224 Non-Exclusives: Cba to get videos for these but I'll list the biggies: Fallout 3 GTA IV Bioshock 1 / 2 Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare 2 Assasins Creed 1 / 2 Resident Evil 5 Red Dead Revolver Fifa (10) + stuff I've missed That's the PS3 side covered anyway. Did you see Sony's E3 presentation? That alone should make you want a PS3. I have a PS3 and a 360 Elite, and while the Xbox is a fantastic gaming machine, the PS3 is my preference. It might be worth holding back though for the price drop/slim model.
Cube Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 (edited) banjo 3(is it any good?) Nuts & Bolts is a great game. Just don't expect it to be Banjo 3. minor factors like controller preference It's not minor for me. I won't own a Sony console until they make a controller that doesn't hurt my hands after 5 minutes. The original PlaySyation controller never hurt, but the PS2/PS3 ones do. Edited July 1, 2009 by Cube
dwarf Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 I prefer the PS pad. It helps my hands are small, but I just prefer using it. I'm used to it and I think it looks better than the 360 one. Overall it's still minor for most people.
mcj metroid Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 thanks for that list dwarf, Very helpful.. Towards the start of the ps3 life I was very big into thinking that 360 was better but now it's really even but depends on what you are into... .. I have to say for me It looks like the ps3 is a big winner.. just a bit on the expensive side and i'd have to get a decent tv too but that was a given with the 360 as well .. Little big planet, ratchet and clank and metal gear would win me over.. plus uncharted looks excellent.. 360 is really lacking in variety... See I don't mind fps games but once i've played one I feel like i've played them all..That's just how I feel.. The on-line is also free on ps3 which is also a massive plus.. Just one little thing.. Can you no longer buy a ps3 model where you can play ps1 and ps2 games anymore? Nuts & Bolts is a great game. Just don't expect it to be Banjo 3. . ha that's fine cause I never liked the banjo games
Daft Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 There have been strong rumours over the past couple days that backward compatability is coming. If I were you I'd hold out until TGS. There will most likely be a price cut then.
mcj metroid Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 hmm my brother ha a ps3 that could so it.. the first model really... why did they axe it?
dwarf Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Costs. Plus non 60GB models are loss-making products anyway, for the moment.
Jimbob Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I can't deal with simulators. GT just goes over my head. PGR is all about the parabolas. I wonder if they'll do a PGR5. I hated Forza. That felt like a simulation. Forza in my eyes is cack. Yes, i did like the car modding but that was about it once i played the game. I'm a PGR man myself with 4 being the best of the series so far. There is something that PGR has that Forza is missing and i can't put my finger on it. Probably a stupid question but I sort of have a problem.... Before I got the new 360, I had a broken one which I repaired along with a hard drive. That would have transferred everything from save files to gamertags to the new HDD and you could continue playing with no troubles. As for Gears 1 and 2. Awesome games, even though i have only played Gears 1 so far. Its best to get the 1st title and beat that before doing the second. Multiplayer is pure awesome, words cannot put it into context.
