arab_freak Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 (edited) No, it doesn't involve Nicolas Cage and John Travolta. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30586321/wid/11915773?GT1=31037 This is a photo of Connie Culp, after an injury to her face, left, and then as she appears today. Culp underwent the first face transplant surgery in the United States at the Cleveland Clinic last December. Before and after; Edited May 7, 2009 by arab_freak

arab_freak Posted May 6, 2009 Author Posted May 6, 2009 Here ya go: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8035316.stm I was referring to the other previous transplants, I just noticed I didn't put a link in the first post.
dwarf Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Yeah it's not that good, there's a different face transplant/skin graft that worked fairly well. To be fair she did get shot, and she hasn't fully recovered. I still found it hard not to laugh though which is bad.
Guest Captain Falcon Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 People at work were making the jokes today about it and I couldn't help but chuckle a little even though I know I shouldn't have. I'd not seen the picture of her until just but now I do feel rather bad and somewhat ashamed about it.
Sheikah Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Woah, her eyes have sure shot up. She looks a bit like Droopy now.

It looks a lot more okay-ish.

darksnowman Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 The first one was a French woman who'd been attacked by a dog/ dogs, wasn't it?
Paj! Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 The first one was a French woman who'd been attacked by a dog/ dogs, wasn't it? *nods* As far as I'm aware.
Raining_again Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I created a thread back in the day bbc news link - I think this was the first one.
Jimbob Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 To be honest, picture 2 looks a lot better than Picture 1 for obvious reasons. This my friends is pioneering surgery. And it will probably look better over time as well.
Sheikah Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 And it will probably look better over time as well. Yeah, when she gets older people will think it was just a stroke. Seriously though, it seems as if they have made her jaw more square-like. I honestly can't make sense of that.
Chris the great Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 funnily enough, her new nose is very nice, and the only part that appears fully missing in the origional photo.

Raining_again Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I think she looks pretty awesome. I think the people slagging the way she looks have never actually lived with a disfigurement like that.... she looks relatively normal...she probably feels amazing now. The nose is fantastic. Amazing stuffs.
Pestneb Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 why did her hair colour change? did they swap scalps too?? also, maybe they ought to include a before disfigurement shot, as well as the pre and post ops?
