david.dakota Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 At E3, Nintendo finally announced the long-rumoured WiiFit. Another example of Nintendo thinking outside the box and providing software for those who are not traditionally gamers. Much like Dr Kawashima's Brain Training, the software actually aims to have a measurable, real goal - improving your health. Its an aim that will appeal to parents, grandparents, and perhaps even those excercise-shy hardcore gamers..! Although Brain Training et al have come under fire for not being 'taditional' games and an example of Nintendo forgetting its hardcore fans, they've provided a valuable money spinner for the Big N - and WiiFit is likely to be no exception. So, here's the question - will you buy WiiFit for Wii?
Cube Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 First of all, it wasn't rumoured. It was officially announced ages ago as Wii Health Pack. Anyway, I'm getting Wii Fit.
Retro_Link Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 I'd be more likely to get it just for the Board to use with possible future games like 1080 etc... Not really interested in the title itself, so if the board is sold with other games like a future 1080, then probably not!
Domstercool Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 I want it!! :D:D It just seems so interesting and it actually might make me feel healthier, lol.
Eddage Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 I'll probably get it but I'm not answering the poll purely because I hate the terms "hardcore" and "casual" gamer. To me, when someone says they are a hardcore gamer it just sounds elitist and belittling to people who don't play games 24/7.
welsh_gamer Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 It will all depend on the price methinks. I'll probably but it, but not on it's release date. I did buy Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix, so I should not be embarressed of owning this
Nintendo Fan Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 No, as said above the gym is where i would go to get fit.
david.dakota Posted July 21, 2007 Author Posted July 21, 2007 I'll probably get it but I'm not answering the poll purely because I hate the terms "hardcore" and "casual" gamer. To me, when someone says they are a hardcore gamer it just sounds elitist and belittling to people who don't play games 24/7. We're all entitled to our opinions, but i know people who casually play games, and they'd admit it. I know people who play games 24/7 and are happy to be called 'hardcore'. Its not about being derrogatory or elitist, they're just simple handy terms to describe general gaming behaviours.
Zechs Merquise Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 I'm a hardcore gamer, I go to the gym, I'll defo still play WiiFit though, soemthing i may do with my bird.
Fresh Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 I'm still very unsure about this, I suppose if the board proves to have lots of uses and is durable then I may consider it.
AshMat Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 No i will not be buying WiiShit. I will stick to my skateboard for social exersise thanks.
harribo Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 I'll get it since I don't like exercise in public, it'll be cheaper in the longrun than a gym membership, there isn't a gym near me and it looks fun.
Eddage Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 We're all entitled to our opinions, but i know people who casually play games, and they'd admit it. I see where you're coming from but... No i will not be buying WiiShit. I will stick to my skateboard for social exersise thanks. Now I dunno whether AshMat considers himself a 'hardcore' gamer but the fact that he would immediately dismiss this game (yes, believe it or not it is a game) means that he isn't one, in my mind at least. This is what I'm trying to get at, the fact that the term 'hardcore' isn't set in stone. As far as I'm concerned AshMat and others like him may be traditional style gamers or something similar, but if you want to be 'hardcore' then you have to be open to any sort of gaming experience. However, I'm sure some people would say that because you'd be willing to adapt to a game of this nature then that would immediately make you a 'casual' gamer. It's quite clear that the definition of a video game is changing at with that I believe that terms such as 'hardcore' and 'casual' need to start evolving as well!
Zelda_Rulez Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 I won't get it, unless it's going to be used in other games that I do want. I'll go to the gym for my exercise instead of doing that with the Wii.
Amon Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 I will get it as I'm not as skilled as hardcore gamers (I'll refer to myself as softcore for convienence, I'm not casual gamer either as I have the same gaming/buying habits as hardcore gamers), so I will get it.
Hero-of-Time Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 I usually buy all Nintendo made games but with this I dont know. I go to the gym 3 days a week and Im on my feet all the time at work so to come home and have to still stand around while playing just seems like a chore to me.
Charlie Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 I most definitely won't be buying it. I get a free membership at Esporta which is worth about £100 a month. I really doubt that this game will be able to get your heart rate up sufficiently to actually increase you're fitness.
Jamba Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 I might get this to supliment my exercise. I notice that a lot of it revolves around held moves and a lot of core body exercise (for those who actually know what im talking about). The type of things i do dont have much of that in them so I'm quite game for this. But yeah I also agree with Fresh, whether it's worth buying is another matter. Also Dave mate, could you elaborate on what you mean by non-traditional gamer?
Guest Stefkov Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 Yes because I like to play games and I will get it in hope that they will release a Snowboard game which uses it. Wii Fit will entertain me for a few nights then will go on the shelf.
Jasper Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 Honestly? I'm really doubting. i'm hardcore gamer nonetheless, but I'm not sure this belongs in my living room.
Konfucius Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 I won't get WiiFit if there won't be any other games (excluding non-games) that are using the board. If it's for WiiFit only I'll use it maybe five times and then get bored with it so it will only gather dust.
