killthenet Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Breakfast Club is fairly good, but Ferris is where its at John Hughes wise. Sluggin For Jesus!
Dan_Dare Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Ferris has 'Oh Yeah!' in by Yello. This alone makes it the greatest film of all time.
BeerMonkey Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 I quote liked the sound of In Silico, so I might get it, but I prefer their older Drum and Bass stuff. over half of the songs have no or hardly any words so you may be happy with it for me its one of those the more you hear it the more you like it albums
Gizmo Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Man, why have I only just realised how awesome Rise Against are? I'd heard of them before but never particularly knew what kind of music they did / if they were any good, but I was playing Guitar Hero yesterday and noticed how awesome The Shadow And The Refugee is. Checked some more on Youtube, and damn, they're amazing.
Eenuh Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 This is one of the best covers I have ever heard. Improving on the original song by so much. It really is great. Blows the original out of the water for sure. =D This is a great song! Yeah, I can't stop listening to it. Love the lyrics too and how they changed it so much from the original. =3
Coolness Bears Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 It really is great. Blows the original out of the water for sure. =D Yeah, I can't stop listening to it. Love the lyrics too and how they changed it so much from the original. =3 It's so much better than the original! I need more CocoRosie! i only have 5 songs.
Paj! Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 My favourite CocoRosie song (I only have TAOGAS, from last year) is Animals. Then Werewolf or Rainbowarriors. I need their other stuff at some point.

That's the one album I don't have yet; out of those three songs I only know Rainbowarriors, which is pretty great. You should get Maison de mon rêve and Noah's Ark, they're really lovely albums. I can't stop listening to them, especially Noah's Ark right now, since it has Beautiful Boyz (one of my favourite songs ever, which also has Antony singing on it). =3

Listening to Hounds Of Love by Kate Bush right now...it's the only one of her albums that's grabbed me thus far, but I suppose it's the most accessible. I'll move onto the others after I think, for a proper listen.
Slaggis Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 I'm loving Rihanna's voice on "If I never see your face again". She sounds good with Maroon 5.
Sanchez Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 The last 7 minutes of Wolf Parade - Kissing the beehive are beautiful. And this is my favourite song ever: http://iguessimfloating.net/assets/mp3s/13%20Sleeping%20Lessons%20(The%20RAC%20Mix).mp3 Amazing.

Siren Song Of The Counter Culture is my favourite album probs but Revolutions Per Minute is amazing too. Love them loads
Hem Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Wooo, http://summersoundsystem.gatecrasher.com/Lineup/ tommorow. Only last-minute suggestions on who I should check out? Obv. know all the big hitters.
chairdriver Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 You know when an artist is awesome when they actually go out of their way to make an album with a totally different sound. PJ Harvey is a bit good. Learning to play the piano and the harmonica so she could do White Chalk. I love this performance , just because I love the emotion she puts into the last few lines, my favourite lines: Dorset's cliffs meet at the sea, Where I walk the unborn child in me. White chalk, bored, scattered lands. Scratch my palms; There's blood on my hands
Paj! Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 I think it's an established fact of life that PJ Harvey is literally amazing. ---- I bought Scarlett Johanssen's album after hearing how un-typical her single is. I expected pop or something. Though her voice is totally lost in the music, it creates some really interesting and layered landscapes of sound, very nature-y. I think if anyone here liked Seventh Tree by Goldfrapp, they'd like this. Or Tom Waits for that matter (it's a cover album of his work, except for one of her own songs).
Girly hiyaz!~ Gamer Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 have you seen that video where she sang with the jesus and mary chain? :x
Slaggis Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 The lyrics to "Boyfriend" by Alphabeat are so catchy. "This boy really drives you mad and you know that ain't bad...oh yeah, you love him 'till you die". -- I saw Scarletts album in HMV and thought "wtf?" - I had no idea she was releasing a cd.

You're literally so far behind the times. Even I knew she was releasing one, just through the grapevine outside my window. ---- Camille's new album feels like one literal joke, but it's so funny.
Tom Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 I'm really getting into Saul Wiliams - The Inevitable Rise & Liberation of Niggy Tardust after seeing him at ATP. Admittedly it loses a heap of energy and power recorded over live, but its still a quality album. It's a collabiration with Trent Reznor, so sounds pretty unique! Finally got round to listening to Death Cab For Cutie - Narrow Stairs, not their best work, but perfectly listenable. I'm really finding it hard to tear myself away from The Postal Service - Give Up though, so hearing Ben Gibbard without an electronic backing is sounding a bit weird for me. I'm really tempted to go to Super Sonic festival in Birmingham. I really want to see Battles again - live is infinitely better than recorded, plus I'd like to see Red Sparrowes. Merzbow is also playing, which would be a pretty unique experience. Hmmmmmmmm.
chairdriver Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 Money Note by Camille is like the best song in the history of mankind. I love how the backing loop at the start is "Rich bitch. Rich bitch. Ritch bitch." I love how the whole song is done by people's voices aswell. Actually the most fun song I've ever heard. I love the bit where she sings in a voice that could be Leona Lewis' or some RNB pop-stars voice and sings "I just want to beat Mariah". Like I just think of her hitting Mariah Carey with a broom as she cowers on the floor. And then you can tell she's taking the absolute piss when she does a Mariah too-high-pitched shriek note. Just so good. Like she's proved she has a life with Le Fil, now she can just have fun with her voice.

She's a bit good at life in general.
Ashley Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 Heard 'Nothing Compares To You' used on TV and now im listening to it. Ahh the 80s.
