Hey, I'm considering purchasing a VGA cable for my 360, as I heard the HD DVD player only upscales normal dvds through VGA?

 

Also, is VGA an improvement over component or the same? (I'm talking HD DVD quality and gaming)

 

Also, does it matter if I get a used cable from amazon?

I have a qiestion about HDMI cables. I love my new tele, and PS3 and 360 games look incredible on it, but i am not impressed by the blu-ray quality. It always seems to look better in the shop. Now, i know i have a quality TV with 1080p and all that jazz, so what have they got different? So i started thinking maybe the cheap HDMI cable is the cause.

 

My question is, does a more expensive HDMI cable actually make any difference? I know there was the big Monster scam, but after researching a little people do say gold-plated ones are better and that some cheaper cables dont even support 1080p at all. It's very confusing. I'm thinking of buying a new one if its worth the extra cost, probably for peace of mind more than anything.

 

 

Nah, there all the same. It's a digital signal so it makes no difference.

 

Make sure your PS3 is set to 1080p Also try changing the colours and the sharpness.

A friend of mine has that, all I can say is it's probably the best 26" TV I've ever seen. That was with a PS3 through HDMI. I don't know if it's wall mountable, but most are.

Well, I saw a 26" Samsung R87LE26BD in town for £289... Which is really cheap. I thought about getting that.

 

But I do already have a Samsung R87, they're great but i want something else. Anyway, thanks for the options. I'll consider them

Magazines get it wrong alot. Samsungs especially tend to have glitches and imperfections in software.

I got the 22" version of that tv/monitor. I've not tried my PS3 in it yet but my 360 looks great on it.

There aren't any holes or anything on the back of it for wall mounting.

The recent purchase i made of a LGM228WD LCD TV/Monitor is probably one of the best i have made. Only found out yesterday it supports 1080p so 360 gaming at 1080p for me. And it has got HDMI for it, beautiful. Freeview built in as well.

 

Just need to sort out some surround sound/speakers for it and i think i will be good. Sound at the moment is excellent for the Wii and 360. DVD sounds a little on/off stereo/pc speaker sound depending where i sit.

So, some may know I have acquired a 360, but all the tv's in my house are CRT and I'm kinda feeling like getting something to make the most of the HD nature of the 360, so I am looking for new screens of a televisual nature. My questions is...does anyone know a good place to get such? Budget isn't too big, £200ish probs, and is there any real major difference between 1080i and p(im assuming I need a 360 HDMI cable for 1080p too?)? I was just flicking through argos, and saw this 19inch for £130 but I have no idea if that's a good sort of price or not. Basically, what's the best/biggest I could get on a £150-200 budget?

1080i sets don't exist, LCDs can't be interlaced.

 

As for what to buy, go for a PC monitor. It's the best you'll get for that price, these "TVs" actually are PC monitors anyway, but you're paying for a TV tuner and a couple of pretty rubbish internal speakers. A decent PC monitor with a decent set of Logitech speakers and a 360 VGA cable will wipe the floor with anything else for under £200. This, for instance;

I see, I'm really not informed on this whole 1080i and p thing, I tried reading earlier and assumed LCDs('HD Ready') did 1080i cos something said that 1080p was proper or full HD or something, it confuses the crap out of me.

 

The PC monitor thing is a choice, and one I considered a few months back, but I left out a bit of detail of the current situation, I'm more after something designed to do the job of a TV, cos I'm sneakily(and shamelessly) looking to sting my family to buy it instead of me , so for now the PC monitor option is probably out the window. I could deffo work my sister round(especially if it has built in freeview), as she's got plans to move out and is gonna need a TV when she does anyway(a good half year plus to go yet tho), and my parents haven't bought a new TV for like...15 years, and they're so cheap now compared to then!

The only problem i got with my TV is the sound output, but this can be rectified by purchasing a rca phono scart adaptor which allows connection of speakers/hi-fi speakers to the TV producing 100% better sound, am already investing in this adaptor (costs £1.30 from Play)

I'm rather confused again. What is the average kind of going price for TVs, in relation to size? I mean, looking at this thread and even the TVs I've previously found, I seem to constantly find something similar or bigger for cheaper. So, when it comes to LCD TVs, IS bigger better? I saw two screens on Curry's site which were 26" and only £150, yet I also see 19" TVs going for like £250. Is it just better brand names, or what? I can't really see what I'm missing, and I don't get why there's so much variation in price both between and within sizes?
