What are various series' lowest points?
Dcubed replied to Glen-i's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Some fantastic examples already, keep it up guys! Here's one more to add to the list... it should be familiar to anyone that frequents Jim Sterling's videos... Castlevania Pachinko: Erotic Violence! Because Konami is Konami, and Konami is The Worst Oh fucking hell! I completely forgot about this one! It doesn't make a lick of sense regarding ANYTHING involving Terry -
What are various series' lowest points?
Dcubed replied to Glen-i's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Just to set the mood and tone for the rest of this thread... here's a few more examples, including a couple that you probably know and one you may well have not until now! Fire Emblem Fates turned out to be a fine enough game in its own right... but I don't think that anyone can really argue that the petting scenes aren't the trashiest low point for the series as a whole... So offputting and disrespectful that it legitimately killed my interest in the entire series until Fire Emblem SD&TBoL got released on Switch Monster Hunter... the movie! And finally... The Legend Of Zelda: The Mirinda of Time! A Mexican advert where Link gets a thirst for some cold, sweet Mirinda juice! That's... not really rad Link... @Cube Get in here and start educating us about Sonic's lowest lows, we had too many games to choose from; and we don't know Sonic merch and tat nearly as well as you do -
What are various series' lowest points?

Bomberman Act Zero? Aww, that's cute... Let me show you the real series lowpoint for our little bomber dude... Introducing... Bombergirl! This wonderful little trashy piece of trash is the most utterly desperate attempt imaginable to jump in on the MOBA craze. Released in Japanese arcades in 2018, Bombergirl is a 4v4 League of Legends knockoff where our favourite bomber dude has been turned into bomber dudettes. So far so crap? Oh wait... let's check out the game's official description... ... err... what kinds of sights... ... why, it's softcore hentai of course! But that's ok you say, it was just a Japanese arcade exclusive! Nobody could actually play it anyway! Who cares? Wait... what do you mean that it actually got a home release on PC!? AND YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR EACH AND EVERY TIME YOU PLAY A SINGLE GAME WITH THE HOME RELEASE!?!?!? Wow... softcore porn doesn't come cheap these days... Anyway, that's my quick rundown of this lump of sheer embarrassment. I just made your day worse. You're welcome -
That’s incredible! It even runs original discs too!!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection
Dcubed replied to Helmsly's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Worth keeping in mind that a SNES cartridge copy of Turtles in Time on eBay will run you back more than this entire collection combined. Hard to argue with the value on offer here really. 🐢 Power!! -
I agree @Glen-i. I quite like the idea of a mixture between a VN and a Strategy RPG. I’m gonna hold off on my playthrough until I finish Octopath though.

https://diofieldchronicle.square-enix-games.com/en-us/ A brand new strategy RPG from Square-Enix. Don’t know who is developing it yet, but so far it looks promising Coming to all platforms, including Switch!

Dino Crisis fans on suicide watch... No, really. Why isn't Exoprimal a Dino Crisis game? Also, yeah... Pragmata is dead, as I predicted. I'll gladly take the Ninja Turtles collection though! The Diofield Chronicle looks decent; surprised that it took this long for S-E to make a Fire Emblem knockoff that isn't from Matsuno or otherwise obviously inspired by Tactics Ogre! And Valkyrie Elysium isn't a mobile game!? Praise Odin! (Edit: It's being made by Soleil Ltd, AKA Valhalla Studios, AKA the Devils Third team? Uh oh...) Also, why were non-Japanese games like Returnal and Trek to Yomi shown here? -

Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp (21st April 2023)
Dcubed replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Do you really think that a game as niche as Advance Wars has a realistic shot at getting ported/remade onto Switch 2? We're lucky that this game even got made/announced at all! No way are they throwing away even more money at this game now! As much as it pains me to say it, it's just not a viable option for Nintendo to pursue. The game is too niche, and they've already overspent on the project as it is. I can't see it happening for this one -
Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp (21st April 2023)
Dcubed replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
The Gamecube version was 100% finished and ready for release before it was shelved in favour of porting it to the Wii (the GCN version was just about 2-3 months away from release after its E3 showing). The point of its inclusion in that list (and indeed, the point of the list entierly) is to highlight how Nintendo very commonly cancel 100% completed releases for various reasons; be it political, technical, PR related (Starfox 2 being a famous example) or to push over to another platform instead. AW1+2 being 100% completed and ready for release does not preclude a cancellation at all. Also, those games all have 100% completed localisations, even the region exclusive games are perfectly fine examples of finished products that Nintendo decided to sit on instead of releasing (in some cases, they did eventually get VC releases though). In looking at just the Advance Wars series alone, we have had two cancellations of 100% completed Japanese releases owing to world events. This is not new territory for Nintendo, in fact, it is absolutely normal for them to do this. If anything, Switch has been an outlier to the usual trend! And when it comes to cancellations of Nintendo releases, very rarely do Nintendo make public announcements regarding a cancellation (Namco's original version of Metroid Prime 4 is a notable exception to the trend, which is why it was so shocking when it happened); instead, it is almost always done through an indefinite delay (be it done publicly or quietly). At this point in Switch's lifecycle, I cannot realistically see AW 1+2 getting a retail release now. This conflict is not going to blow over any time soon, and by the time that Nintendo's PR department deems it "safe" to release AW1+2? Switch 2 will almost certainly already have been announced, if not already on store shelves; well past the point of viablity for a retail release of this game. For what it's worth, if the game was releasing towards the start of the Switch's lifecycle and this same event/delay happened? I would just assume that Nintendo would eventually release the game at retail... But we're not at that point. We're instead coming to the end of the Switch's life; and it's too late for AW1+2 to have a 3rd crack at a retail release now. -
Don't mind me... I'm just drowning my sorrows in music from the Advance Wars series... Every single piece of music in this series is a certified banger!

Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp (21st April 2023)
Dcubed replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Can't remember exactly where I read it, but word on the street is that a Captain Rainbow localisation was done and finished before being shelved forever; same with Mother 3 on Wii U. This isn't abnormal for Nintendo as a company, so I'm inclined to believe the tale. There's plenty of other examples that we know of with certainty, even ones that haven't had their ROMs eventually released via VC (such as Drill Dozer EU version) or leaked (X for GB being a recent example); such as Arcaic Sealed Heat for the DS and Project Zero 4 for Wii, which we know were localised but shelved indefinitely for various reasons. This is absolutely standard fare for Nintendo... hell, it was actually abnormal that we didn't already see more cancellations for Switch; something that I already highlighted in the main Switch just a few days ago in fact! -
Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp (21st April 2023)
Dcubed replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Going by Nintendo's history? It's a perfectly reasonable stance to take. They are notorious for super overreacting to world events, especially with the AW series, and it's absolutely their SOP to cancel and sit on fully completed releases indefinitely. I'm willing to bet money on AW 1+2 never getting a retail release on Switch now. Hopefully Wayforward will get another chance to take a crack at some of Nintendo's more forgotten IP in the future though. -
I'm so sorry everyone

Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp (21st April 2023)
Dcubed replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
For those still holding out hope that Nintendo will still release this game... Need I remind you all that Nintendo is notorious for sitting on completely finished games and never releasing them? NES: Simcity, Earthbound Beginnings SNES: Starfox 2, Special Tee Shot, Kid Kirby, Sound Fantasy Virtual Boy: Zero Racers N64: Animal Crossing (Western Release), Sin & Punishment (Western Release), Panel De Pon 64 (Remade into Pokemon Puzzle League; eventually released as part of Nintendo Puzzle Collection for the GCN), The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time: Master Quest (Released on GCN) GCN: Super Paper Mario (ported over to Wii), DK Barrel Blast (ported to WiI), Kirby Gamecube (parts of this game were salvaged for Kirby's Adventure Wii), Nintendo Puzzle Collection (Western Release) Wii: Project Zero 4 (Western Release), Disaster Day of Crisis (US Release), Captain Rainbow (Western Release), Line Attack Heroes (Western Release), Pikmin 3 (ported to Wii U) Wii U: Pikmin 4, Fire Emblem NES English localisation (Ported over to Switch), Mother 3 English (supposedly finished but ultimately had its release cancelled when they started winding down Wii U support in favour of Switch). GB/C: Pokemon Picross, X (Western Release - this was actually just recently leaked!), Metroid 2 DX, Tomato Adventure (Remade for GBA) GBA: Drill Dozer EU version, Kururin Paradise EU version, Wario Ware Twisted EU version, Advance Wars 1 JPN version (eventually bundled with Advance Wars 2 when it was released in Japan 3 years later) DS: Steel Diver DSiware, Daigasso! Band Brothers Western Release (cancelled in favour of releasing the sequel in EU territories instead), Advance Wars Days of Ruin JPN version (eventually given away for free as a DSiWare download for a limited time only). Funnily enough, I just recently made a post about how strange it was that Switch didn't have as many high profile cancellations as previous Nintendo consoles... Guess AW 1+2 will now be joining this list -
Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp (21st April 2023)
Dcubed replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Yeah... this game is totally getting cancelled. We got incredibly lucky that this game even got announced and made at all. They're not going to throw even more money at this game after it has already been heavily delayed once before, it's just too niche for them to bother at this point. Hell, it didn't even have a Japanese release planned at all! The Ukranian conflict isn't going to die down any time soon; probably not until next year... and it's gonna take too long for the release of a game like AW to be considered "acceptable" from a PR standpoint for it to see release on the current Switch before it gets replaced by Switch 2... and there's no way that Nintendo would be willing to spend the money needed to port the game over from Switch 1 to Switch 2... RIP Advance Wars -

PlayStation State of Play (Wednesday 9th March @ 22:00 GMT)
Dcubed replied to Julius's topic in Other Consoles
So... Stranger of Paradise release trailer, Star Ocean 6 trailer, Ghostwire Tokyo trailer, Astro Bot sequel, Dynasty Warriors 10 OR Final Fantasy Warriors (not both) and then finish off with trailers for Resident Evil 4 Remake and Final Fantasy 16. A few other minor games (mostly new IPs) sprinkled throughout and that's my prediction. Pragmata will be a no show, it will be this generation's Deep Down and never get released. Dragon Quest 12/3 HD will be shown off at a DQ specific event, so not here. Capcom have already said no further SF6 info until the Summer, so not here. Forspoken just got delayed, so no further trailers or marketing until around August/September I reckon. That sounds like a pretty solid SOP to me. -

Nice to see them big up the online multiplayer support. This is the first time we've ever gotten any form of online multiplayer support for an F-Zero game! 4 player F-Zero X is a riot! -
Yup. These games are super approachable for just about anyone. And for those that want a challenge? Most Kirby games include some sort of speedrun mode where you are challenged to beat the game as quickly as possible with various restrictions in place; which provide a hearty challenge... ... and then there's the post-game content, which rachets up the difficulty from super easy to soul meltingly hard on a dime! While the games aren't particularily hard to beat for a casual player, they're very popular speedrun games for a good reason!
