OH MY GOD! After getting Link's hat with my first fortune cookie, look what I just so happen to get with my second! YEAH!!! Also... Priorities? What are those!? :p
-
Nah, Rare was huge and pumped out multiple titles at the same time (Though as rightfully pointed out, production costs and general team sizes were much lower back then - so that was much easier to pull off than it is nowadays)
-
That Best Friends feature is a real godsend! It's so simple, but it makes a huge difference! Just being able to chat before you all get into the same town is gonna make things so much more convenient!

2.5 odd hours in and I already have Link's hat. AWWWWW YEAH!

OMG LOL @ MY CHARACTER'S RUNNING ANIMATION!

Hmm... Michael Kelbaugh just gave us a hint as to how Retro operates http://m.uk.ign.com/articles/2013/06/13/e3-2013-nintendo-retro-discuss-future-of-metroid So Retro is a one game studio, with enough staff to handle a small side project at the same time... With the way that was worded, it sounds like DKCR 3D was finished in early 2012, as Retro gave them a hand on it in their spare time, and that the game was just held back for business reasons (to give the 3DS lineup an extra boost in 2013 and to build up hype for DKCTF). I wonder if that means that Monster Games might be further into development of their new game than I had first thought?

Miiverse (A Link Between Worlds art event edition)
Dcubed replied to -Dem0-'s topic in Nintendo Gaming
I suppose they still want to sell Miiverse as its own fully fledged social network service. Having the full post replicated on Twitter or Facebook would devalue Miiverse as the FB/Twit viewer wouldn't need to visit it to see the post in that case... -
Every time I see this title, it puts me in the mood for an iced slushie...

Depends on your net connection and how many people are downloading it at once, so I realy couldn't tell you. The game is roughly 707MB, so yes it will easily fit on the default SD card

That isn't how the F2P model works... F2P would require the game be changed at a fundamental level to be focused around selling you virtual items. The idea is that you remove the subscription entirely and instead finance the game by putting gameplay barriers in place to encourage players to purchase virtual items that either remove limitations, give you an edge over other players or allow you to skip purposely unfun sections of the game. The idea is that you remove the barriers to entry and get them addicted, then you manipulate the player in such a way that they'll spend tons of money in order to carry on playing the game (The most addicted ones, the "Whales", in particular typically spend thousands on these F2P games!) They could also sell virtual trinkets that don't have any gameplay ramifications (such as skins and clothing items), but it's unlikely that this would be enough to finance the running costs of an MMO alone... Most MMOs these days are moving to an F2P model, instead of the old monthly subscription model (aside from the monolithic giant that is WOW of course). It's less risky and generally more lucrative for the developer (at least at this point in time, especially in the west) so it's not hard to see why S-E might feel it necessary to move to this model for a western release - and if DQ's recent history is anything to go by, Nintendo would be publishing it. S-E seem to have given up on DQ in the west so Nintendo would being the ones interested in getting the game localised and released over here...

The latest Nintendo Investor Relations Briefing is out! http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/library/events/130612/index.html They are taking 3DS Nintendo Zone hotspots and are turning them into Streetpass relay stations that store Streetpass data from passers by and share them with others as they pass too (basically asynchronous Streetpass) Also "the first free-to-play software from Nintendo" is coming within this financial year. David Gibbon, who attended the briefing, mentioned that Iwata said that it's not a Mario or Pokemon game... Could it be a western release of Dragon Quest X (converted from a subscription based MMO to a F2P one) published by Nintendo? Could they be referring to Flipnote 3D (which is free, but has a subscription element) or are they heading down the dark path of developing F2P "pay-to-win" crap? Mario Golf 3DS being delayed till 2014 is a real kick in the balls! Why bloody say it's coming out in Summer just a month ago and then push it back half a bloody year just a month afterwards!? 3DS lineup is looking pretty barren from M&L DT till Pokemon X & Y now... Either way, there's lots of lovely sales info in there if you're interested

Official E3 Nintendo Direct Discussion - 11th June @ 3pm
Dcubed replied to Mokong's topic in Nintendo Gaming
He's right of course. Nintendo do always innovate within their existing IPs and even within the "safe" sequels that they put out. They have always developed gameplay concepts/prototypes completely separated from the games themselves and insert them into whatever IP best fits that concept/prototype. The cat suit in SM3DW has probably been a prototype that they have had knocking around for years. They could've easily have developed a whole game around it with an original character (a Cat character even!), where it's all about climbing up walls/objects etc and other various cat-isms like scratching away at obstacles etc, but instead they incorporate that concept in a Mario game and explain it away with a handy dandy suit (the ever useful BS handwave excuse ) Kid Icarus Uprising is another good example. It was a completely original concept and IP until Sakurai was offered the chance to use one of Nintendo's existing IPs to package the game in. He considered making it a Starfox game (and honestly, it could've easily have fit perfectly) but he chose Kid Icarus because he had a personal affinity for the game after making SSBB. Meanwhile you have "original" IPs like The Last of Us, which could just as easily be an Uncharted game starring a different character for how original the gameplay is -
It was never a 3DS game, did nobody actually watch the developer video? They came up with the idea of doing a multiplayer sequel for Wii U in the middle of SM3DL's development and started making it straight after the 3DS game was done. They wanted to do multiplayer but couldn't pull it off on 3DS and wanted to have all the players visible on the same screen at once (the characters would've been microscopically small on the 3DS' screen). It has been in development ever since the start of 2012, is in no way rushed and was never in development for 3DS. The two games' development cycles follow NSMB and NSMB Wii to a tee. Right, done, dusted. Move along

If not, then Bunghole it is! (Actually that sounds even worse, I might just go for that one anyway )
-
More or less. Nintendo are lucky to be even getting the likes of Watchdogs. Can't really fault Ubi, they've been better to the Wii U than just about any publisher not named Activision.

SHIPPED! Tomorrow, Craphole gets its new mayor!

The Morning After - E3 Nintendo Direct Verdict
Dcubed replied to Fierce_LiNk's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Overall it was very disappointing for me. What they showed might have looked really fun and really good, but (with the exception of Mario Kart 8) their Wii U lineup looks disappointingly safe. What happened to the idea of Asymmetric gaming? Why do all of their upcoming games (except for Wii Party U) not utilise the 2nd screen at a core fundamental gameplay level? If they're not interested in breaking new grounds in game design with having the two screens then why bother having the Gamepad in the first place!? That being said, I do like the look of Super Mario 3D World. I'm glad to see that they're not just making another Galaxy or SM64 style game. That cat suit alone will make for some radically different level designs and new gameplay ideas, let alone the multiplayer and everything else they showed. The lack of true Gamepad integration is hugely disappointing, but the game still looks great regardless Mario Kart 8 looks utterly nuts though! It's definitely the most "next gen" game that they've shown so far and the anti gravity stuff looks crazy - with strong shades of F-zero! Definitely not just a "safe" sequel Just such a damn shame that it's not coming out till Spring next year, they really could've done with getting that out this year DKCTF is also a huge kick in the balls for anyone hoping that Retro was working on something original. Game itself looks great, but the thought of what could've been just sours the whole thing for me That's really it for me. The games they showed all look great, but there are so many missed opportunities here that it just ruins it for me; and the lack of games that really make fundamental use of the Gamepad is really worrysome - It goes against everything that they stood for when they were coming out with the console (as well as the Wii, when that was still a thing). I want to see games that couldn't have been made on any other console and for the most part, I'm not seeing that -
What we need now is a really gruff and manly looking Fairy type mon... Better yet, make him the main "representative" cool Pokemon of the game, like Lucario in Gen 4 or Zoruark in Gen 5. Oh the rage that would ensue...
-
I'm gonna end up pressing A expecting him to jump aren't I...
-
Not really, considering that all of Nintendo's Wii U games run at 60FPS. That being said, I can't believe that Mario Kart of all games has turned out to be the Wii U's graphical showpiece MK Wii was one of Nintendo's worst looking games last generation (going as low as to straight up reuse Double Dash's character models - and that wasn't much of a looker back then either), so seeing MK8 looking as good as it does is legitimately shocking!

HAL is listed as a developer on SSB4, but if Brawl is anything to go by, they're only playing a very minor role (with Namco doing the bulk of the work, much like how Gamearts did much of the grunt work for Brawl alongside the "Smash Recruit Team").
-
Yup, looks amazing! All of my want!
-
You're gonna have to add another now. Arzest is making Yoshi's New Island! (I would never have thought them to be big enough to make a 3DS retail title! ) Also you forgot to include Mario Party 3DS under NDCUBE. That makes HAL Nintendo's only internal studio that is really left unaccounted for... (Namco would be doing the bulk of the work for Smash 4, so that wouldn't really take up any of HAL's staff really). I'm sure that Kirby for both or either 3DS & Wii U is on the cards, but something different would be nice too... Arika and Skip are still suspiciously quiet... I'm 99% certain that Greezo is making Zelda TWW HD though.
-
Oh, so I was wrong! It's not being made by HAL, it's being made by Arzest! http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/34560 I didn't think that they'd be big enough to make a retail 3DS title, but I guess I'm wrong! BTW, this team consists of former Artoon and SEGA developers. They previously made the Streetpass Mii Plaza games and several Wii Play Motion games (Jump Park was one of theirs)
