  1. I doubt that anything is gonna be able to quite replace it. Sure, some of its subcommunities might survive, like the sales analysis guys (They run a sales database on a seperate site and I know that at least some of them were in contact with each other outside of the forums, so I reckon that there’s a good chance that they’ll get back together and get that ball rolling again - though since Neogaf, as a company, had an arrangement with NPD that granted them limited access to their data, they’re not gonna be able to get that back...), but you’ll never get that one-stop-shop that Neogaf was again. Sure, you’ll see many of its members gather together in lots of disparate places (I hear that a fair few of them are gathering on Waypoint) and probably set up small sites of their own, but certainly not together as a big conglomerate like they were before; especially in the age of social media, where much of it will be sucked up by the likes of Reddit, Twitter and Facebook; invisible to those that don’t know what exactly they’re looking for. It was the culmination of 18 years of work that was consistently very much in the right place at the right time to breed such a massive and sprawling collection of communities. What happened here was definitely a good thing, but we all lost something hugely valuable in the process; and that’s something we’re probably never gonna get back again. Keeping up to date with gaming news and happenings is going to be a LOT harder going forward now... I’m still in disbelief that such a massive and influential site could collapse literally overnight! Maybe we’ll see some of them end up here at N-Europe? Who knows? I like to think that we’re a nice little community with an open and friendly attitude (which is certainly quite rare these days, especially with the Gamergate types flooding the interwebs), so perhaps we’ll see some of the good ones end up here!
  2. Oh My God! I just heard the news!! Is this even real life? It all happened so fast!! It’s so surreal!! While I have to say that the mods there seem to have done the right thing, assuming that the allegations against Evilore are true (and, given his past actions, I wouldn’t be surprised at all to hear that they are true), this is a complete disaster! The entire gaming press and the industry as a whole relies on that site as a primary source of information and news aggregation! I rely almost entirely on it for all non-Nintendo info (and even then, the other Nintendo sites I regular for info often rely on NeoGaf sources). Losing it is a massive blow!! Sales analysis? Gone. Pretty much everyone relies entirely on NeoGaf. Without them, the likes of VG Chartz will run rampant. Unless the sales guys on there can somehow get back together and get something going again, we’re completely in the dark when it comes to sales data! Losing Neogaf is basically the gaming equivalent of losing the Associated Press overnight! Outside of the news sites, we have nothing but Reddit and Twitter now (and that’s hardly useful if you don’t already know what you’re looking for, since it’s entirely decentralised!) Oh man. This is bad.
  3. Oh wow! An included soundtrack CD that isn’t completely useless!? What a revelation! Sounds like this is one of those rare ocassions where the LE is actually worth getting
  4. IIIIINNNNN!!!IIIIINNNNN!!!IIIIINNNNN!!!IIIIINNNNN!!!IIIIINNNNN!!!IIIIINNNNN!!!IIIIINNNNN!!!IIIIINNNNN...
  5. They only really use it for when you open and close doors in the demo, but it's a great effect! (and yes, it does feel different when you open as opposed to close a door. Get a feel for it!)
  6. Some sort of Halloween sale is coming this week.
  7. Looks like the Gn'G one is only a single level, going by the footage. A shame, but at least it's much better than the total garbage that the first one is. Either way, it looks just as cobbled together as I'd expect from Capcom's cobbled together throwaway Switch support (you can even see where the sprites have been cut out in photoshop if you look closely!)
  8. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1450257 Doom on Switch now seems to have motion controls! Looks like they took the feedback to heart!
  9. Actually it does record in the background. What the capture button does is that it saves the LAST 30 seconds of your play when you press it, not the 30 seconds AFTER you press it. According to some random dude on GAF, 30 seconds is the max that the NVidia Tegra X1 chip supports with Shadowplay background recording. Naturally I’m inclined to believe him without question, so that probably explains the limitation Edit: Ahh, I’ve been beaten I see... Edit 2: Wha!? BT USB headsets work now!? Awesome!
  10. So, fairly mediocre quality really. Not terrible, but about what I expected. That’s fine really. I wouldn’t use any console’s built-in capture tools for high quality recordings anyway. It does the job for quick highlights. What really makes this feature a killer though is that it works in handheld mode!
  11. Also just heard that it adds the ability to share game updates with other Switches via local wireless. Great for when you’re out and about with a friend and one of you has forgotten to update their game!
  12. Select games only for video capture!? 30 seconds only!? BOOOOOOOOO!!! The rest all sounds good though! About time we were able to transfer saves!
  13. Finally got round to watching this the other day! Brilliant watch! Fascinating stuff. Am now an addict of Summoning Salt’s channel thanks to his recommendation
  14. Love the Tetris, Mario Sunshine and Wii Sports pic choices I will never not be impressed by Pilotwings SNES' illusion of depth. I first played it in 2010 when it came out on Wii and I was floored at how convincingly it conveyed the sense of a 3D landscape with nary but a scaling/rotating 2D background! Truly impressive!
  15. HD Rumble is awesome when it actually gets utilised. 1,2,Switch is the obvious forebearer with Ball Count (which is every bit as amazing as the initial ice cube teaser), but there are some other games that use them in small and subtle-but-nice ways; like Project Octopath Traveller’s demo (the door open-close effect is subtle, but amazing!), FAST RMX’s tornado HD Rumble effect, Tumbleseed, Golf Story and Thumper. You do also have Splatoon 2, MK8DX and ARMS that use HD Rumble in subtle ways, but otherwise it’s just normal Rumble across the board for the most part. Switch is still lacking in really stand-out games that really make heavy use of it right now. Thankfully Super Mario Odyssey has some pretty great use of it though, so hopefully it’ll change some minds round here, because HD Rumble is amazing when developers put the effort in!
  16. Jim pretty much sums up my thoughts on the matter perfectly...
  17. Lol! Very true! It’s actually a first! We’ve never had a Kirby game hit within the first 1.5 years of a console’s life before (the closest was Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland on GBA; which came 1 year, 7 months after launch in Japan and was also a remake, which makes it a pretty unfair comparison anyway! - the next closest game was about 2.5-3 years after its respective console launch!), so yeah! It’s actually completely unprecedented!
  18. Looks pretty great! A lot meatier and content packed than I expected too! This’ll fill the Ridiculously-Late-In-A-Console’s-Life-Kirby-Game role very nicely!
  19. It's also a particularily good fit for Switch, given its pick-up-and-play nature. I can see myself putting some good time into the Arcade mode on the bus/train
  20. That's much earlier in the month than I expected! Bethesda are getting my money for sure!
  21. And we still don’t have any sort of categories whatsoever... Games are already getting buried. We need categories (like demos, genre, publisher etc) and filtering options (A-Z, release date, All Games etc) ASAP!
  22. I'm Uncle Phil, in case it wasn't obvious enough. Looking forward to seeing how the track selection turns out...
  23. I think those shots should be good enough to recreate them on everyone's Switch. It'll be a bit of a pain, but not too hard (and any small variation will probably be hard to notice during actual gameplay anyway). Plus you only need to recreate the one you want to play as anyway (I bagsies Uncle Phil, he looks SPOT ON! )
  24. Great to see! I was getting really frustrated with the lack of discounts available on digital retail games now that GAME have stopped doing discounts on them. Hopefully this is the start of a trend from Amazon!
  25. I see no conflict of interest here... None whatsoever...
