Thanks, that's a good idea! Looking at Game Data Archive, we can see that PS4 had sold about 760,000 after 9 months on the Japanese market. So if we subtract that from Switch's LTD total, we can see that PS4 is ahead by around 1.74 million if we just look at western sales in the first 9 months. That's actually not bad, considering the complete dearth of western 3rd party support up until just a few weeks ago! I do feel that PS4 is likely to pull ahead even further though, unless we see a real change in tune from most other 3rd parties like EA and ActiBlizz.

Yeah, it could well be the case. There was another game that recently announced a delay because they wanted to wait for the paid service to launch as well, but I can't remember the name of it for the life of me right now...
-
Honestly didn't think it would ever come out! Not terribly interested in it, but I do hope it's a good port and that it does well.

Not gonna lie... Back when I was a wee lad, writing for my college newsletter (I used to review movies/plays every so often), I actually used to do that for the films/shows that I wasn't particularly interested in Of course I'd never do that now... maybe... (Nah, I actually do like most of the games I review to some extent )

Most importantly, the physics are spot on (if The Pinball Arcade is anything to go by). I've never liked the way that the Pinball FX/Zen Pinball games actually feel to play, it doesn't feel remotely realistic and the tables just aren't very well crafted or all that fun. TPA/Stern Pinball nails the actual feel of pinball and (by virtue of featuring digitized versions of some of the best real pinball tables ever made), has an absolutely cracking selection of brilliantly designed tables!

This review literally tells me nothing about the game itself. I haven't the faintest clue about how the game plays just from reading it There's one throwaway sentence that sort of vaguely explains the game concept, but makes no attempt to explain anything about what the gameplay is actually like or how it sustains itself (or does not) throughout. I don't know anything about whether or not it is fun to play, or even tolerable. It just reads like someone looked at a few screenshots or a trailer, loved the art style and wanked on about it because they didn't bother playing the actual game. D-, please review the game and not the art style. That being said, the game concept does look pretty neat though (from watching the trailer, not from reading the Eurogamer review, that was just useless )

Oh wow! That's awesome! I'm defo in for that one!

True. Japan is a much more important factor for Nintendo than Sony. Would be interesting to see how the western sales would compare during those first 9 months, but I suppose there's no way to really compare; considering that NPD no longer put out data on monthly hardware sales publicly
-
On top of that, Switch is heavily supply constrained, while PS4 was not; making it all the more impressive for Switch, since it would've sold much more had supply allowed for it!
-
It's such a shame that the supply isn't there to have it done by the end of this year. Switch could've easily have beaten Wii U's LTD by now (13.56 million) if the stock allowed for it...

That was amazing! Why the hell did Geoff not get him off the stage as soon as it was clear that he was off his rocker? The show has come a long way since the early days clearly. It's much better organised than before and actually feels like an awards show now; but it still feels too commercial and like an outlet for massive adverts. Not bad, but still needs work. That video is a pure gem though

General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion
Dcubed replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in General Gaming Discussion
That's if we ever see a new console cycle at all... I think generations are done for good now. There's no incentive for anyone to hit the reset button again. We live in an age where iOS and Android are the norm and software platforms are expected to live beyond the hardware. Funnily enough, despite being in the weaker position, MS seem to understand this better than Sony and have really taken big strides towards making backwards and forwards compatibility a key defining feature of their platforms and ecosystem. I reckon that this is something that is really gonna give them a leg up over Sony as time goes on and could well help them gain ground in the long-term. But of course MS' situation with exclusive software is rather dire at this point; and that's gonna really bite them in the long-term... -

DS did it somewhere in-between 13-14 months, but that was before things really took off with the DS Lite. 3DS is a bit harder to pin down, I can't seem to find an exact month online, but in looking at the quarterly sales data, I think I can make an educated guess that it happened in November 2011, so that would put it at the 9 month mark as well (it really exploded after the price cut and during November/December that year!). That was a really interesting thread and I find myself agreeing with the sentiment of it. MS have really struggled to regain any buzz this year; even with the launch of a new console. The XboneX does seem to have gotten off to a good start though, and PUBG has yet to launch for them, so things could still change... Sony haven't exactly got the greatest Xmas lineup either here; largely selling off the back off of the typical multiplatform releases and catalogue sales of games (Even GT Sport has struggled, now only rebounding somewhat thanks to a panic price cut). But they do have some strong discounts and deals over the Xmas season, which will probably be enough for them to ward off MS. PUBG is MS' real hail-mary here and is this season's big wildcard; I really don't know what kind of effect it'll have. Could be the next console Minecraft, could be the next console Counterstrike. Really not sure how the penny's gonna drop here, but I'm interested in finding out! -

Suppose we should note here that Switch has now reached the 10 million milestone! By contrast, PS4 and Wii reached 10 million in 9 months, while Wii U did it in 31 months. @Kav, Yeah, it is disappointing to see, but unfortunately, that's just how the UK market goes. JRPGs just don't sell well here and typically have no legs to carry them after the first week (the latter is actually true in most countries, but JRPGs start off weak in the UK anyway - making the effect even more pronounced). From what I've heard, XB2 sold in-line with Ni-No-Kuni back on the PS3 here in the UK, so not all hope is lost. I suspect that it'll fare much better in the US and throughout mainland Europe (especially in France). -
Holy cow! They were only at 7.63 million come October 1st! That means that they sold almost 2.5 million in just 2 months!! Amazing!
-
You can't. If you're selling the console, you're selling the games along with them (or you can choose to wipe everything, but that obviously diminishes the resell value significantly). I would personally recommend holding onto it until Nintendo announce their Virtual Console plans - see if they offer discounts for people who own VC games on Wii U (like they did for Wii owners) and if they do? Take advantage of the discounts by buying them with the same NNID. Sell it after if you want then. 200GB is the sweet spot for price/size right now. Unfortunately, the prices have risen across the board in the last few months, but Amazon is currently doing a Xmas sale, so there's a chance that they might do a sale on them over the coming weeks. Also check the US Amazon site as well during the next few weeks - I nabbed a 200GB Micro SD on sale just a few weeks ago when they did their Black Friday sale and it's pretty likely that they're gonna do it again here! Amazon UK didn't do a sale on the Micro SDs during Black Friday, but Amazon US did; so it's well worth keeping an eye on both over the coming week or so.

It comes with the DLC for free too! Good stuff! Late ports should really come with their DLC packaged in for free (I'm looking at YOU Namco!) I never got round to playing it on 3DS/Wii U, so I'm all over this one!
-
It’s an extremely impressive port! Looks nigh on identical to the other versions as far as I can tell, without a side by side comparison and the framerate is absolutely rock solid throughout the first world at least! Really impressive stuff. Playtonic certainly put the work in here!

Backer codes are getting released now. Just got mine!

Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection (Switch)
Dcubed replied to Dcubed's topic in Nintendo Gaming
It should work. They’re just standard GCN controllers as far as the console is concerned and I know that the DK Bongos and Mario DDR Dance Mat work with the GCN controller adapter. -
https://www.resetera.com/threads/street-fighter-30th-anniversary-collection-announced-ps4-xbo-pc-switch-12-games-40-may-2018.10529/ Includes all of the SF2, SF3 and SFA series. SFII: Hyper Fighting, SSFII: Turbo, SF Alpha 3 and SFIII: Third Strike all have online play.

While the idea of playing console games on a handheld screen has been done before with Wii U’s Off TV Play, it’s the versitility of the Switch that really feels magical to me. From playing Shmups in tabletop mode, with my Switch turned sideways, with an arcade stick or Joy-con; I can then switch straight to playing Doom on my TV with docked Joy-cons or a Pro Controller. Then I can take that game outside and carry on playing it in handheld mode on the train into work. I can then go see my friend after work and play Super Bomberman R, Pokken or Mario Kart 8 by handing him a Joy-con and off we go. The variety of experiences it offers and the variety of ways to play is what really makes it special. Being able to use multiple Switches for games like Pokken and Pacman VS is also really great and speaks volumes to the console’s sheer versatility! (If only it had Download Play support and an official capacitive stylus though...). And it does it all so seamlessly! Unlike the Wii U, Switch is a fast and elegant machine that can easily be taken anywhere and maintain full functionality. It’s the kind of machine you just want to play everything on (come on VC!)

Octopath Traveller might well be the panecea you need! Have you tried the demo? I loved it! Old school stylings but has plenty of novel ideas; be it the Bravely Default and FF10 inspired (with a twist!) battle system or the novel 8 way story, with each character having unique capabilities. Tokyo Mirage Sessions on Wii U is also pretty unique, despite being an old fashioned turn based RPG!

I would NEVER get voted Hero of Light in an actual Four Swords Adventures game, so I'm well chuffed here! I like the look of 50cc on shrooms. Next week's one should be good!

https://www.resetera.com/threads/romancing-saga-2-remaster-out-worldwide-on-dec-15-for-ps4-switch-win10-steam.10169/ Looks like we’re getting a version for Switch after all! Comes out Dec 15! This’ll be the first time that it has been released in English on a non-mobile platform! Supposedly it’s a really good remake (done by Artepiazza; of DQ7 3DS fame).
