H-o-T Topic: Has the lack of Virtual Console hurt the Switch?
Dcubed replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Some good points made here, though the eShop has not been entirely free of retro gaming. Hamster's ACA releases have really helped to fill the gap left by the VC and they've done very well for themselves (and most of these games are familiar to fans of the Wii VC too). Despite that though, I'm not sure if it's the biggest factor in the early success with independent developers on the eShop... ... Glen-i hits the nail on the head for me. The sheer quality of the Switch's early eShop releases is head and shoulders above what we saw on the Wii U (let alone the pathetic early offerings on 3DS and the non-existent Wii Ware lineup during Wii's first year). Nintendo's early curation worked wonders really and independent developers brought their A-game to the table right away. You also have to factor in just how successful the Switch has been, right out of the gate as well. 3DS struggled at first (and Nintendo struggled to even get the eShop up and running at all!) while Wii U was the biggest failure the company has ever put out; the sales success that independent developers have seen on Switch is also a reflection of the success of the hardware itself. I don't doubt that the lack of VC right away has helped independent games gain some breathing room; but I also don't think that they can't co-exist on the platform. Switch is a healthy system and the eShop has already shown itself to be a thriving ecosystem where big budget retail games (Splatoon 2), known brands (Sonic Mania, Shovel Knight, Overcooked, Minecraft), quality new IPs (Snipperclips, Thumper) and retro re-releases/remakes (Wonderboy: The Dragon's Trap, Hamster's ACA series, Namco Museum) can all co-exist and all do well for themselves. While Nintendo arguably don't need the VC right now, their software schedule is going to slow down real fast real soon (unless they knock our socks off tomorrow!) and next year will likely be a different story. There is a clear hunger for retro games on Switch. Even ignoring the success of retro games already on there, the VC is probably the most requested thing right now for Switch (and the fever for retro gaming is at an all time high, especially with the NES/SNES mini). Having it hit Q2 next year would be a good move I feel; giving the SNES mini time to shine and fizzle out and right in time to fill the gaps in Nintendo's software schedule. -
I'm expecting it myself. Ports of Bayo 1, 2 and TW101 all out by the end of the year as per the teases. Considering that they recently ported Bayo 1 and Vanquish to PC and are looking to make up for the shortfall that came from Scalebound's cancellation, it doesn't seem unlikely. Hopefully we'll also see them announce a new Switch game too! (A port of Vanquish for Switch wouldn't go amiss either) I don't ask for much do I?

The Anime is getting localised into English! (Actually didn't think they'd bother!) Episode 1 is above
-
And this one is a very long vid as well. Longer than some of their E3 Digital Events even... This one's gonna be big!

Where did you see that? I can't find it... Either way, there's no need to show off anything mobile related during the Direct itself... That's what the Apple Keynote the day before is for As for other stuff we'll almost certainly see? Xenoblade 2 release date and an unveiling/release date announcement for the 25th Anniversary Kirby Game as well are surefire bets. It's kind of their last chance at this point if either are actually gonna come out this year.
-
I'm betting on an unveil of Animal Crossing Switch. We're very likely to see AC Mobile unveiled at Apple's keynote tomorrow and it's supposed to tie into an AC game for dedicated devices. The day after would be the perfect time for follow up information on how it ties into AC Switch. Ditto for Zelda mobile; it'll probably tie into BOTW's DLC Pack 2.
-
I get the feeling that any sort of "achivement" system they have in mind at Nintendo isn't really what most people have in mind... I think that this tease is actually referring to support for My Nintendo Missions in Switch games and those aren't really "achievements" per-say, so much as they are incentives to engage with games on a regular basis and encourage more purchases on the eShop.

Yeah it's baffling, especially with RDR 2 incoming, you'd think that a remaster of RDR would be a no brainer. LA Noire was easily their least popular game last gen (not counting Table Tennis, obviously). Still, I'm not complaining. I actually like LA Noire, so I'm happy at least

As far as unmentioned shooters on Switch go, I'd give a shout out to Shock Troopers 1 & 2 and Strikers 1945. I think the rest of the good ones have all been mentioned (and yes, they're all well worth your time! Especially the Metal Slug games! )
-
Yeah, I'm loving it so far! It's adding quite a few nice wrinkles to the gameplay as you go along too (like the cold areas giving you a high chance of missing turns unless you use this game's equivalent of the hot drink). I'm currently rocking a team of a Velocidrome, Red Khezu, Arzuros, Aptonoth and Yian Kut-Ku. All of them are hilariously cute! I'm really impressed at how they've translated the Monster Hunter series characteristics into RPG mechanics. It's really well done! It all works so well and they've done a great job of making the world feel interactive and alive! Great stuff!

Pretty amazing that we've gone for more than four months without a single BLOONS! Battle! This is my jam, so naturally, I'm... IN! Feels good to finally be able to change font size on mobile
-
Yup. This happens to me too on iOS.
-
That was probably my worst performance in N-E League history. Thanks Glen-i! I couldn't have done it without you!
-
WOOHOO!!! Now if we could just get back the Shrug smiley... Yeah. It's appearing as three rows for me on mobile too (both landscape and portrait)
-
Thanks for the confusion Glen-i!

All these new updates and I still can't change font size on mobile... Just joking. Love the new update! Super stocked to have Thanks back!

Resident Evil Revelations 1+2 Coming To Switch
Dcubed replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Not sure what people are asking for when it comes to Switch storage really. What other choice is there for a portable device? Sure, they could include more storage as standard, but then you're looking at a significant price hike (and Switch is already expensive as it is). Hard drives? Not viable for a handheld device. The only realistic choice is SD. The only thing that I can really moan about is the choice of MicroSD over normal SD, given that normal SD Cards are cheaper, but MicroSD is the sensible choice in the long run as it has become the standard for mobile devices (meaning that it'll be the focus of SD Card manufacturers going forward) and allows the Switch to be as small as it is. SD Card sizes will increase over time and decrease in cost over time. We only just saw the release of a 400GB MicroSD card just this week. Give it time and we'll see the situation improve even further. -
Kinda funny that they big up the addition of motion controls for shooting when the shoot out sections are easily the worst part of the game Still, at least they won't be AS bad as before, now that they might actually control decently.
-
LA Noire on Switch? Actual (kinda) support from Rockstar!? Really!? Rockstar, Bethesda and EA are now the Switch's biggest 3rd Party supporters. What kind of crazy bizzaro world is this?
-
Wow! The rumour was actually true! I can't believe it! ... ... They're actually bothering with a remaster of LA Noire! (Oh, and it coming to Switch is a nice surprise too I suppose...) I actually quite liked this game though, despite it's many flaws. Sure it's not very deep and it's pretty easy to figure out how the interrogation works, behind the scenes, and cheese it completely, but it nails the 1950s film noir atmos perfectly. Wouldnt mind picking it up for cheap on Switch

Love the "logo", truly a masterpiece of fine craftsmanship! Luckily for you guys, I'm IN! tonight; meaning that I can screenwatch the hell out of Glen-i and restore balance back to the Scales of League Bias

Resident Evil Revelations 1+2 Coming To Switch
Dcubed replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
@dazzybee, @Glen-i, @V. Amoleo, @killthenet Abort mission guys... Trust Capcom to fuck up a simple thing Edit: No, wait, now he's saying it's being done like BOTW's aiming controls! http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=248111318&postcount=209 Bloody hell man! Make up your mind! -
Resident Evil Revelations 1+2 Coming To Switch
Dcubed replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Well it'll be just like how it's done in World of Goo/Zelda BOTW, since there's no sensor bar. What they'll probably do is have the game re-centre the cursor when you press the aiming button. Should be a pretty elegant solution here
