Well they’ve gotta get a Smash Bros Amiibo ready for FE:TH’s main protagonist...
-
We get screwed again? Not surprised in the slightest. 2 NES games a month is monumentally pathetic.

Have you tried Shadow's of Valentia? It's a pretty faithful remake of the original Fire Emblem Gaiden, no anime/waifu BS! And it's brill! The fact that Three Houses is based on Shadows of Valentia/Gaiden has me very excited for it! I've always wanted to see a new game that revived its ideas and built on them with new and similarily out-there mechanics (as the cancelled FE Wii game was originally going to do - which this is looking like a sort of revival of!); so this looks right up my alley! As for the rest? Honestly? You've heard pretty much everything I have! I'm expecting a new 2D Zelda and Labo 4 (supposedly called the "Gun Kit" from everything I've seen floating around), along with Mario Maker 2 and a new IP or two at some point; but probably not now. Probably won't see them until E3 I reckon. I've not recently heard anything really outlandish or unexpected really Might see a Pikmin 3 port here, but I'm not sure if they'll show it now or later. SNES Online will probably happen too. Hopefully here! But it could be a little later, I honestly don't know. As for Metroid Prime Trilogy? It was supposed to already be out by now, but I reckon that Nintendo are sitting on it now because Prime 4 got cancelled, rebooted and pushed back for another 3-4 years. So they could literally announce and release it whenever they feel like it... so Godonlyknows! And no, I don't know what Retro are up to anymore! But surely they must've finished whatever it is they were working on if they're now working on Prime 4!? Only stands to reason right? RIGHT!? The thing that really stands out to me as odd though is that I've not heard of anything new coming from Intelligent Systems this year outside of FE Three Houses and that doesn't sit right with me... Paper Mario Color Splash came out almost 3 years ago now; while Codename STEAM came out 4 years ago! They must surely have something else ready for release this year if that's the case! That's why I'm thinking that we'll see a new Pullblox game for Switch tonight. Liam Robertson previously mentioned a cancelled Pullblox World sequel for Wii U; so it wouldn't surprise me if they finished it up and released it on Switch. But even then, I'd still be surprised if they had nothing else to show this year. IS are Nintendo's biggest team outside of EPD and usually have 3-4 projects running at once; so it strikes me as odd that they'd have nothing else this year... Otherwise? I'm speculating a HD port of Metroid: Samus Returns. If Mercury Steam were to pull another Mirror of Fate HD on us, then now would be right on cue... The others? Dunno for sure really. We'll find out tonight anyway though As far as third party stuff goes... well... https://mynintendonews.com/2019/02/12/hashimoto-from-square-enix-retweets-nintendo-direct-announcement/ One of Square-Enix's main producers just retweeted the Direct announcement; so expect something coming our way from S-E! Personally, I reckon it's time for this... and this...
-
That avatar really was right on cue! Bloody love it BTW
-
Only question is... will we see Gen 8 tomorrow? Or will we have to wait until Pokemon Day... ... either way, we should have plenty of new 1st party announcements here. I predict 4 myself

@S.C.G. Have you checked to make sure that you don’t have sunlight interfering with the Wii Remote pointer? Remember that it works by IR light, so sunlight will drive the Wii Remote pointer mad! As for the sound? Yeah, the Metroid Prime games are just pretty quiet in general; the GCN version was exactly the same in that regard.

Oh! That reminds me! London Gaming Market is on March 17th! Hopefully I can actually go this time!

No More Heroes: Travis Touchdown Strikes Again
Dcubed replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Very interesting interview with Suda 51 regarding the making of Travis Strikes Again... https://nintendoeverything.com/suda51-on-making-travis-strikes-again-scrapped-plans-for-golden-dragon-gp-no-more-heroes-future/ ... turns out that all of the different games included in TSA were once cancelled Grasshopper games! Brought back from the dead and compiled into TSA! (Not unlike what Nintendo did with Labo!) Still haven’t had time to play this one yet, but I’m really looking forward to doing so at some point! -
The latest Nintendo Investor’s Q&A is out in English now! https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2019/190208e.pdf Some excerpts...
-
So I haven't had a chance to buy it/play it yet. But how different does it feel from Advance Wars? What does it do differently? I get that it's a blatant knockoff, but I'm interested to hear more about what it does that is different from the AW games...
-
Would be very surprised if we didn't get a Pikmin 3 port at some point as well. 2019 seems like as good a year as any for one!
-
You really can't go wrong with any of them, but it seems like Game#1 is leading the pack... I reckon it's time to call time on the vote! Back to Phendrana Drifts we go! Have fun everyone!
-
You can still vote... and these games are all available on other platforms too (that's a big reason why I picked them!)
-
It does have some similarities with its combat, but it has a lot of problems (you really don’t have much control at all, it’s not really inaccurate to say that it feels like the game plays itself). I’ve always thought of Xenoblade’s combat as FF12 Done Right. I really like the setting, story and world of FF12, but I could never finish it because I just found it so boring to play... Hopefully the overhauled gameplay from the previously JPN only Zodiac Job System version (the HD version is a remake of that Japanese-only release and it significantly overhauls the gameplay) makes for a much more interesting game to play though; because there actually is a lot to like about FF12, if only the gameplay wasn’t so sleep inducing!
-
Bingo bango done. Again, you're getting far more production value for your money, but the actual gameplay itself? Virtually zilch. The AAA sector has largely abandoned the idea of selling games based off of their gameplay. Gameplay is now a tertiary concern at best. These games sell on their visuals, story and perceived runtime. They have all the gameplay depth of a dried up muddy puddle. It doesn't matter if a game's runtime is artificially inflated by millions of copy/paste skinner boxes and BS wastes of time, that screenshot of AC Unity is a perfect representation of what constitutes "gameplay" and "value" in today's AAA games. (And before you bother to highlight games like DOOM or the Resident Evil 2 remake; again, those are the rare exceptions to the norm that that AC Unity screenshot represents) This is why we love Nintendo after all! They (mostly - I'm looking at YOU Breath of the Wild...) reject these modern trends, and continue to deliver real gameplay and gameplay value in their games!
-
Those SNES games that “last 2 hours” are games that you will play countless times again and again, because their gameplay is honed to perfection. I can beat SMW in less than an hour, but I have probably played it for more than 500 hours in total throughout my life because it is so incredibly replayable. Today’s AAA games? They’re a One-and-Done affair, if even beaten the once. Because they have no inherent replay value. A game’s value is not measured by its runtime.
-
The AAA sector is worthless garbage now. They're not even really games anymore, they're just Skinner Boxes. Something like the remake of Resident Evil 2 is the incredibly rare exception to the norm. The grand majority of AAA games are designed to waste your time and pull the wool over your eyes in doing so. For all of the flashy visuals they flaunt, they don't have the gameplay to back them up; and their developers purposely make these games a chore to play, in the hope that you will pay to skip the grind and the privilege of not having to play the game to see the rest of the story and its pretty visuals. You might be getting more production values for your money, but you are getting substantially less actual game and gameplay for your money. Jim Sterling is absolutely right. Thank God for him!

I wonder if this will indeed be the last ever retail game released for the 3DS... ... seems fitting that Kirby and Atlus would round off its run!
-
I'd be very surprised if it doesn't happen. THQ Nordic are big supporters of Switch/Nintendo and bring basically everything they publish to it, with just a few exceptions.
-
I'd love to pick this up, but I know I'll never finish it. Hell I'll probably never even finish 4, let alone Untold, Untold 2, 5 and EO Mystery Dungeon!
-
Almost all Atlus 3DS games in Europe are digital only; so I'd expect this one to follow suit.
-
Nice! It doesn't run at 5FPS anymore! That delay really did wonders for it.
-
Hmm... @nekunando wants me to pick a good one this time? Ok, maybe I’ll choose WaveRa... ... nah, actually I’m gonna pick these three... No complaints? Good! My vote goes to Game #1 (What!? You could tell!? Damn, guess I've gotta learn to be more subtle )

January N-E Game Club: Wario Land - Super Mario Land 3
Dcubed replied to Dufniall's topic in General Gaming Discussion
I actually completely forgot that was in WL1 when I went back and replayed it recently! I thought that was only a thing in WL3! But yeah, I totally get what you mean. WL1 does feel like a transitionary game in many ways. The great thing about ML1-3 is that you can see the gradual process of metamorphosis, as Nintendo R&D1 gradually go off on their own tangent. If you just look at the enemy designs in SML2, you can already see shades of what would eventually become the Wario Land series' enemies... The witch and the shark with the boxing gloves are vintage Wario Land! But even by WL1, you already had a lot of the trademarks of the series (and Wario himself) in place. The music, the chunky visuals, the core moveset, the focus on the surreal and bizzare, the subversion of Mario series tropes. They're all here already! I do think that "Mario Land 3" is still a fiiting title at this point (fun fact: in Japan, the naming convention is the other way around from the west. In Japan, it's "Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land"), because it does still feel like a successor to Mario Land 2, but it's still caught in this weird, in-between state, and that in of itself is actually quite appealing! Wario was always meant to be a bit of a middle finger from R&D1 to EAD's idea of a goodie goodie hero; with ML2 & 3 being subversions of the tried and tested Mario formula. So it's only natural that it would eventually splinter off and go down its own path I suppose! Wario Land 2 was the moment when the Wario character and series finally, truly became its own thing though. It's really cool how you can see the way in which the developers themselves changed their approach to game design in such a visible way! Now if only we could see the Wario Land series return proper... -
Very sad to hear that. I'd be very happy to take THPS2 for GBA off your hands though. Been meaning to pick it up again at some point and I'd like a non-fake, non-manky copy, so I'd give it a happy home Oh! That reminds me! As a random aside, since we no longer have a Buy/Sell thread. I know it's not retro, but would anyone be interested in a copy of Tetris Effect for PS4? I got a duplicate for Xmas (Actually got two duplicates! But I've already gotten rid of one of them ), and can't really be arsed to deal with eBay again. I'm happy to basically give it away.
