Looks to be a pretty exciting event this year! Looking forward to seeing what Google are cooking up!

Never forget the golden rule. A game that has microtransactions is always designed in such a way that they want you to buy them instead of going for the free option. No publisher ever puts microtransactions in a game without the express desire for you to want to skip the in-game grind and buy them with real money. That is literally how they work. You either pay with time or money. How much of a mug the publisher thinks you are? Well, that depends on the game itself (and this example looks pretty egrigious really; but then again, it is EA, so that doesn't surprise me in the slightest), but the golden rule is always true. No matter your opinion of the game itself.

It's a NES era style platformer that actually is as good as the likes of SMB3, Castlevania and Mega Man 2 and legitimately stands shoulder to shoulder with them. Unlike with every other retro inspired platformer out there, that's not hyperbole with Shovel Knight!

Can’t say that it didn’t have a hell of a run! Crazy to think that it continued to get good first party support for 8 whole years! That’s mad! Not even the original DS lasted that long! (First party supported ended with Black 2/White 2; released 7.5 years after the DS’ original launch in Nov 2004!) I’ll be very surprised if the Switch library ever ends up matching the 3DS’ one from a retail game standpoint. I doubt we’ll see that level of quality and quantity from Nintendo ever again; not in the HD era! Can’t really recommend the little guy enough; its library is an embarrassment of riches! It took a long time to get it off the ground, but by God it did!

Can’t really fault them for sticking to their original promises. How many other developers would honour a set of 6+ year old promises from a Kickstarter!? These guys are amazing, but I hope they never end up promising the earth like this again. They’ve basically given away three SK sequels and a battle spinoff for nothing in return! They can’t consider doing anything that mad again! They won’t survive as a company if they do!

He does have a personal investment in Scalebound. It’s the game that Kamiya has been trying to get made ever since he helped to found Platinum all the way back in 2006. Hell it actually originally started as a Wii game, where you would control the dragon using Wii Remote gestures! Scalebound is Kamiya’s long-term passion project. And reviving it as a Switch exclusive not only makes sense from the standpoint of it being a near finished AAA game that fills a hole in Nintendo’s library (that they can get out relatively quickly and cheaply, since most of the work is already done), but it would also be a huge gesture of goodwill towards Platinum and Kamiya that would secure their undying support forever. In terms of developmental resources, you have to remember that a huge chunk of the game is already done. They wouldn't be starting from zero; they'd have a mostly finished engine and set of assets to carry on development with (assuming that Nintendo would be acquiring the half-finished assets from Microsoft as part of the deal); so its impact on Platnum's production as a whole would be greatly muted as a result. Astral Chain is their current main project anyway.

Disgustingly low resolution! Good Feel made a huge mistake abandoning their own HD engine with Wooly World in favour of UE4.

This game has bomba written all over it. I'd be very surprised if Bioware don't get shut down by EA after this game's inevitable critical and commercial failure... ... No doubt the Microsoft vultures are already circling their HQ...

I reckon it’s probably Scalebound. Makes the most sense by far. Nintendo have already revived a Platinum Games title before; and Kamiya is not directing any of Platinum’s upcoming games... only working as a supervisor... (his last known Directorial role being... you guessed it! Scalebound!) UE4 also generally runs well on Switch, so the porting process would be fairly easy to do. And Microsoft has a healthy relationship with Nintendo; allowing their IPs (such as Hellblade) on their platform with no issues. Reviving cancelled 3rd party titles and turning them into exclusives is Nintendo’s current MO. Scalebound is the next obvious candidate.

This is still my most wanted, publicly cancelled, game!! Bloody criminal that it never came out! It represents the absolute height of Wii-era 3rd party publisher incompetence and stupidity! A literal, guaranteed multi-million seller that just got completely sat on; at a time where Lucasarts were desperate for a hit! Unbelievable!

Super happy to see SM3DW get the love over Odyssey here! That game is so ridiculously underrated! (And SMO is very overrated; so I’m happy to see it get totally snubbed here! ) Glad to see it get the respect it deserves! Hopefully that also implies that a SM3DW Switch port isn’t far off...

Yeah, your memory of the game is very warped lol! It's a child's dream. Link dreams of cute animal villages, Goombas and Kirbies. And an island with a big pink egg on top of it, with a rainbow whale that explodes out of it when you play it a magical orchestral lullaby. The latter half of the game is where this child's dream takes a dark turn, but it was always a cutesy, child-like dream world! The art style has always reflected that, even on the original GB! That being said... You can attack the dogs and even set them on fire! That ought to ensure a PEGI 18 rating!

To lazily reuse my post from the ND thread... Yeah, the art style is actually very faithful to the original GB/C game! It's even on model with the GB Printer pictures! Wonder what we'll get in their place this time...

The art style is actually very faithful to the original GB/C game! Couldn't really ask for anything more faithful in HD 3D really! The original game was always cutesy looking, that was part of its charm! Hell they've even preserved the flavour of the cutaway stills with the anime FMV!

BTW... Y'all sleeping on the biggest megaton of this Direct... WART FINALLY GETS TO STAR IN A NEW GAME!!!!

The look reminds me of 3D Dot Game Heroes mixed with ALBW. Looks brill! I love how blatant the Goombas look now lol. They're not even trying to hide it anymore! (Looking forward to seeing the blatant Kirby model rip ) I'm guessing that it has the anime scenes because the original game had those iconic cutaways and they want to preserve the flavour of them. Music is so blatantly done by the same guy who did ALBW and Nintendo Land that it hurts as well. I love how utterly adorable it all is! It looks so amazing! This'll wash out the bad taste of BOTW very nicely! GIMME IT NOW!!
