The Wii U eShop did a great job of this; easily the best digital games store I've ever used (and the fact that many games sold best on Wii U, despite the hardware itself being a gagantuan sales failure is testament to the quality of the Wii U eShop layout). The Switch eShop is a gigantic leap backwards in that regard. This is very true. The Xbox store (on both console and on the web) is completely useless for finding anything. You basically have to know the name of the game and use the search function, or else you will never find what you're looking for. I've honestly just given up now and I usually just google "game name Xbox store" like you do.

Yeah... I would never subject myself to that torture of 100% completion ever again.

Better yet, Jason Schreier has jumped into the fray with some detective work of his own... https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2021-07-02/sony-draws-the-ire-of-indie-video-game-makers?utm_content=tech&utm_campaign=socialflow-organic&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&cmpid%3D=socialflow-twitter-tech Indies were the ones that helped push the PS4 when everything was crossgen, and Indies were the ones that kept the Vita alive at all after its first year on the market. Of course, as soon as Sony finished licking their wounds from the PS3; they were very quick to stab their indie partners in the back and dispose of them...

It’s basically everything we were all wanting and expecting. Awesome!

Whelp! Physical Yoshi kart incoming then!

Bingo. That’s exactly what I’m thinking. They’re a very solid port house who do good work (they’re responsible for most of the console versions of the modern Tomb Raider games). Shame for those wanting good quality multiplatform releases on consoles, but it almost certainly means that they’ll be putting out very high quality PC versions of first party Playstation titles going forward

And Uchikoshi is back as main writer as well!!!! The miracle DID happen!

Last completely original one was Metroid Other M in 2010. That being said? Samus Returns is basically a completely brand new game, even though it uses the same story & setting/characters of the original Metroid 2 for Gameboy. Just like how Zero Mission is basically a completely different game from the original NES Metroid. Dread (AKA: Metroid 5) is the first true sequel within the Metroid timeline since Metroid Fusion (AKA: Metroid 4) though... which came out 19 years ago!!

Dev Diary Vol 2 is out! https://www.nintendo.co.uk/News/2021/June/Metroid-Dread-Report-Vol-2-Researching-the-E-M-M-I--1997672.html?utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=MetroidDread|Report2|o1|m_id_UKvry7ZHej|1997672|w27 Gives some details on how the EMMI work (with a pretty Metal Gear Solid esc Alert system in place). A few noteworthy exerpts below...

Nintendo are already in a “Post-Walt” period and have been for the past 15 odd years. Nintendo recognised early on that they would need to pass the torch onto younger staff well before the likes of Miyamoto retired. We saw the beginnings of this as early as 1999, when Miyamoto handed over the reigns of the Zelda series to Eiji Aonuma. Now Aonuma himself has handed over the reigns of Zelda to Fujibayashi. Meanwhile, Takashi Tezuka gave up his direct directorial role at EAD/EPD to instead work on mentoring external Japanese and western partner studios. Their own prodige have themselves now taken on more overseer roles, including Hideki Konno (who is currently leading the mobile division) and Katsuya Eguchi (who now leads on hardware). It’s not just the big time designers/producers either; look at the likes of Koji Kondo and Kenji Yamamoto. Nintendo’s two oldest music composers, who gave up control to mentor younger composers into taking over. Nintendo’s Old Guard aren’t really directly involved in game development anymore. They now work in overseer roles where they help promote the company and train up younger staff. Unlike most of the other major publishers and developers, training up younger apprentices to take over from their masters is something Nintendo have always been especially good at doing. While the likes of S-E have bled almost all of their old talent and have failed to maintain their way of game making that made them who they were (fun fact, many of them were absorbed by Nintendo themselves!); we’re several generations removed from the classic Old Guard at Nintendo now and they haven’t skipped a beat! And even then, Nintendo has never subscribed to the Auteur model of creation anyway (outside of Masahiro Sakurai… who has technically never been a Nintendo employee). They’re a well oiled machine that has done a fantastic job of training up younger generations of staff to take on the “Nintendo Way” of game design. And I don’t see that changing any time soon

KONAMI - What the hell are they doing!?
Dcubed replied to RedShell's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Ahh. So one for consoles and one for Japanese Pachinko machines. Gotcha. -
Still looks like arse. I see that people are trying to justify the changes by comparing it to terrible off-screen CRT shots; but it's all bullshit. They've unified their respective art styles and have robbed each game of their unique look & feel. The sprites simply look worse than the originals, end of. They should've just have left them alone.

The Shantae series got better treatment in SSBU than almost every non-playable 3rd party series in Smash (outside of just Shovel Knight, Fatal Frame/Project Zero, Monster Hunter & Bomberman), so I really can’t complain Embrace the failure. It’s more fun that way.

Rest mode is basically broken on PS5 right now; almost everyone has been having issues with it. I wouldn’t bother using it until they fix it properly (probably not until 2022 when the effects of COVID start wearing off).

Both Housemarque and Bluepoint are no brainer acquisitions for Sony. If anything, it’s surprising that it took so long. Interesting to see Sony lock down their partners in light of Microsoft’s recent shopping spree (even Nintendo were spooked enough to buy NLG outright!). Is there any other major independent partner Sony haven’t acquired yet? (Can’t say that any others spring to mind right now…)

We got music. I'm happy

Oh wow! There was a cancelled remake of Secret of Mana for the GBA!?!? Why couldn't we have gotten this?! It looks amazing!!
-
At least we finally got a response. Was really annoyed when it disappeared before I got a chance to buy it! Hopefully not too long until it comes back. I want this game (and all of the other CAVE shumps) on Switch so bad!! My Flipgrip is CRYING for this game!!!

WB Games is up for sale! The Big 5 becomes The Big 4!

It’s the same in both the Saturn and the Modern modes. It’s a holdover from the JPN only PS2 version (of which, the HD version is a direct port of). Why they made this change originally? I have no idea, but it has unfortunately stuck ever since the PS2 version.

Oh wow! Someone found a hidden menu in the PS2 Classics PSN re-releases on PS3! Apparently it can fix a lot of the lag/slowdown issues that plague some of these releases! And it doesn’t require a modded PS3 either! You can enable it on any stock PS3 within the PS Button menu! How it remained hidden for so long? I have no idea! Now. If someone could somehow find a similar hidden menu for the PS1 PS3 releases that removes the crappy bilinear filter; I’d be a very happy man!
