E3 2021: Digital Edition, TGA's 2021 & other 2021 events
Dcubed replied to Julius's topic in General Gaming Discussion
The FFO fallout is literally the best thing that has come out of this E3! Seriously! This year has been a disaster of biblical proportions so far. It actually makes last year look like a masterpiece so far. Unless Nintendo can save it? We would honestly have been better off with E3 being cancelled all together for everyone involved. Sony definitely had the right idea. I really don’t see the show surviving for another year. Stick a fork in it, it’s done. -

Can we just delete the S-E conference entirely? It actively made the world a worse place for existing. -
Whelp! I think it’s safe to say that Nintendo won this year’s E3!

Guess Sony must’ve reneged on the PS5 exclusivity deal after seeing that clunker of a trailer -

Just caught up with the Xbox conference (big fat meh), and just finished the S-E conference... -
Wow @Glen-i! Your time sucks! @Hero-of-Time made a monkey out of you with his last DKC3 run!

Oh I remember the days before we even had livestreams! Desperately trying to scavenge whatever shot-on-shittio off screen videos I could find to see what was being shown off on the show floor on a 56k modem! Marvelling at the near impossible to see games running on the then-upcoming GBA, creaming my pants (not literally!) over seeing Yoshi’s Story running on the GBA! And marvelling over all the pack-in magazine DVDs from E3 I could find. Good times! E3 and Spaceworld (now who remembers THAT!) used to feel like a magical wonderland of forbidden goodies. It really was Gaming Christmas, and it’d end up stoking playground arguements over console wars for months after! The era of live-streaming conferences was magic. FINALLY, you could watch it live and feel like you’re actually there! (Well, assuming that you could get the stream to actually work!). We even started getting E3 show floor demos uploaded onto the 360 and PS3 stores! (Remember “Bringing it Home”? That would NEVER happen these days!!). It was amazing! Then E3 became more and more scripted, as too did the game demos themselves... Until they went wrong and they were caught out for being fake! I do have to admit that I miss the live presentations. I miss the awkwardness and realness of stage demos going wrong (“Well Bam! there it is!”). I do feel that we’ve lost something when everyone copied the Nintendo Direct format... That’s not to say that the E3 NDs haven’t been great, 2014-2017 were all fantastic! But even they have certainly lost a lot of their unique “goofy charm” since Iwata’s influence vanished from the company... (you certainly don’t see anything like the Jim Henson puppet show or the Iwata vs Reggie fight anymore... I miss those skits!). Really wish we could have that goofy and fun Iwata-era Nintendo back... Of course some years are better than others. Back in the day, your E3 presentation could literally make or break your entire year as a platform holder; or sometimes even an entire generation! (As Sony E3 2006 and Microsoft E3 2013 can attest to). That’s all part of the fun though. E3 used to set the tone for the entire year and the stakes were so high! For better or worse, your game and console’s perception would be inevitably coloured by your E3 presentation as a whole (to this day, Mario & Luigi Paper Jam STILL gets a bad rap because of the overall underwhelming nature of Nintendo’s E3 2015 lineup; giving the impression that it was a cheap asset-reuse spinoff, when it’s actually anything but!). When E3 hit though? It REALLY hit! The likes of Nintendo’s E3 2004, E3 2006 and E3 2010 were legendary! And they’re still fondly remembered to this day for a good reason. These days, the stakes are much lower and less exciting however. But I still find a good show to be a real rush of excitement when everything lines up right. Let’s hope that we see a bit more of that good ol’ fashioned showmanship this year! (And more silly cars on the Xbox stage please! )

It's still alive!? Bloody hell! Who knows? Maybe it'll actually come out alongside the next film? Hey! It's technically timely!

Of all of the games seen throughout The Great Samurai Renaissance Of 2020-2022; this one definitely looks the most fun to me!
-
Looks really solid, very Hades-esc. I'm sure it'll be a very good game
-
Dunno why so many people think it looks "too good" for the current Switch. It's not really any better looking visually than the first game (which was always a looker) and that's certainly running on the current Switch... This is gonna be Monster Hunter Rise all over again

First class material as always from Devolver. I oddly feel really in the mood for hotdogs now though for some reason... -
It’s more that I’d just be too bothered knowing that it’s not an official localisation to actually enjoy the game. The fact that what I’d be playing wouldn’t really be truly reflective of the intended experience would simply bother me so much that I couldn’t actually enjoy the game itself. I’d rather just wait for an official English localisation, even if it doesn’t come for years and years, because I know I simply wouldn’t be able to enjoy a fan translated game properly; so what’s the point in playing it? MM Randomiser is different though because I’ve played the original game a quadrillion times. I wouldn’t play a randomiser as my first MM experience; but I’d definitely play it after I’m already very familiar with the original game!

Ha ha! They just decided to rehost some random Fire Emblem Three Houses live-streamer and they’ve just realised that they’ve been rehosted with a MASSIVE jump in viewers! -

Personally I’m more annoyed by the lack of an “n” in the “A Ubisoft Original” branding... Triggering my internal grammar nazi! -

Wow! This Ubisoft Forward pre-show gameplay footage makes their games look so boring -
Guess Nintendo decided to leak it themselves before the Ubisoft Toilet overflowed by itself

Ahh shite! I meant Shining The Holy Ark; not Shining in the Darkness. You’re right, SitD is common as muck (and I do have it; it’s not bad, but STHA looks SO much more fun!) I had the PSP release too... unfortunately it was the version with the unskippable Game Ending Crash Bug... And there’s absolutely no way to tell that you’ve got a (rare!) bug fixed copy until you buy it and try it yourself So I gave up on trying to hunt a PSP copy down. Yeah, I’ve been keeping a side eye on eBay on and off for some decent copies over the last few months... I did find one good copy for a decent price, but got sniped! Then I went and drowned my sorrows by finally picking up Terranigma for a decent price instead!

Nice topic! Ignoring JPN only releases (and yes @Glen-i, we WILL get Earthbound Endings and Ace Attorney Investigations 2 in English someday!), there’s quite a few I can think of... Mostly from the SEGA CD and SEGA Saturn. Given the absolutely ludicrous prices that they go for on the second hand market (and I’m not willing to steal/pirate them; I have some morals in me), I just can’t justify a purchase... The biggest ones that immediately spring to mind are... Burning Rangers, Lunar: The Silver Star, Lunar: Eternal Blue, Shining In The Darkness, Shining Force CD, Snatcher, Popful Mail and Dragon Force. (For those wondering, yes I already own Panzer Dragoon Saga! That’s why it’s not listed here! Also, Shining Force 3 isn’t listed here because there’s no point in getting it when Scenarios 2 & 3 remain JPN only; the English release is only 1/3 of the whole game!). On the PS1, most of the best games in its library thankfully got re-released on the PS3 PSN store; but there were a few unfortunate stragglers that didn’t make it... Most notably Tales of Destiny and Tales of Eternia/Tales of Destiny 2... which I did actually own for a short time! But I really needed money at that time and had to sell them both off... Now they both go for silly money! On the SNES and MD? The major missing ones for me are Sparkster, Rocket Knight Adventures, Rocket Knight Adventures 2 and Crusader of Centy. I’ve got all of the other English friendly games I really want on those systems now. On the GBA? It’s just Ninja Cop/Ninja Five-o left now; and wouldn’t you know it? It also JUST so happens to be the single rarest and most valuable game released for the system! Go figure! On the N64? I’m missing Mischief Makers, Bangai-o, Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon and Goemon’s Big Adventure. The latter three are very expensive, while Bangai-o is both low priority (due to the readily available Dreamcast remake that I do own, but plays quite differently from the N64 original). Mischief Makers is an odd one though, since it’s not that expensive and not that hard to come by really; I’ll probably get it fairly soon. Original Gameboy? Just Kid Dracula and Castlevania Legends really (though I’m currently satisfied with the recent official English localisation of the previously JPN-only NES original version!). For every other system? I’ve basically got everything I want now in one form or another. That’s about it. There are some other smaller titles I want as well, but those are all the major ones left unaccounted for. Otherwise? The last major title I’ve not played through yet are the ones on my backlog that I’ll get round to eventually when I’m in the mood. Namely Fire Emblem Fates, Fire Emblem: Shadows of Valentia, Codename STEAM, Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinestrals, Octopath Traveller, Bravely Second, Bravely Default 2, Doom Eternal and Miitopia.

Also my Uncle at Nintendo reliably informed me that some (potentially plural) revivals of classic Nintendo IP that aren’t the usual big sellers are getting announced this E3... (before you ask, I don’t know which one/s exactly... That one you definitely didn’t hear from me!
