  1. so Simian last night! Boooosh! Was a proper sick gig. They do all their sequencing and such live so there's a kind of loose, freeform structure to their songs live that's more like a DJ mix. It's all on analog equipment, too, so the sound is really warm and imperfect. Brilliant performers.
  2. Tuesday eh? I was wondering when this was on earlier, weirdly enough. Winner.
  3. I admit to downloading illegally but I definitely do it less these days. I use Spotify for most of my music nowadays and if I download it's usually just because I can't take a spotify album over to a friend's to play them some tunes. Soon as I can afford it I'm going totally legal. I'm starting to seriously disagree with the justifications of pirates. Their arguments are usually self agrandising, deluded shit.
  4. I'm a little biased but I heartily recommend Sheffield. As both a native and a student there I can tell you it's a damn good uni town and very friendly.
  5. Bonkers is a goddamn tune. I love it. And Slaggis- Holy shit you are actually in the same city as me. Lollers. Some kind of junior Sheffield Massive badge might need to be made for j00.
  6. Man alive I've been on my feet all day again. Hypr Failz Mission accomplished though! I got everything sorted that I wanted to do and now I'm ready for shit to kick off on Monday. Hoorah! Tonight brings Simian Mobile Disco to my ears, courtesy of a live PA in one of those trendy youth discoteques. Then a rendezvous with my Post Grad buddies in town. Gonna be epic
  7. I'm actually getting the support Ashley will be delivering for my uni course. I'm getting my own Dictaphone but filming something would be a huge waste of time. (I'll also be getting slides and notes from lecturers)
  8. quick aside (I'll get back to this after a good sleep it's a decent thread) the radiohead thing didn't work. The band have said they wouldn't do it again.
  9. I'm seeing Simian tomorrow. I've barely even thought about it though, which is weird. Uni's taken up all my brain.
  10. I got my registration sorted today. Hours and hours of waiting in line has got me...an ID card. In less tangible news it also means I'm legally a student again. I'm absolutely shitting knackered too. It was an experience made oh so more pleasurable, however, by some very cute company. Tomorrow I'll be going to the bank to sort it all out there. I need to go to disability support too and grab a Dictaphone from them so I can learn how to use it by Monday. I also need to sort out my University log in and email address. and on the other end of town I'm due to pick up my comics for the month. Trrrrreeeeek! Gawd. And Friday is my 'day off' this week.
  11. yup. Can happen on pc monitors too if you leave a static image up too long. ---- Been an excellent couple of days for me. I'm back in University and spent the last couple of days sorting out bits and pieces. Getting to know some coursemates too- all of whom seem really sound and one of whom is utterly gorgeous. She has me in rapture already and it's only been 2 days. Oh dear. oh and I have my timetable. It's absolutely savage, but I want it to be. All is good. Today is registration! I'm due in around half 2 and I'm meeting people at half 12 for a snoop around the societies fair before hand. Should be good!
  12. so, like, yeah. Been on a serious Soundgarden dependency this week. Something about Grunge really clicks with me- particularly when Chris Cornell was involved. It's a shame he's now really shit because his older material (when he was working with other musicians being a crucial factor) he really wrote some spectacular music.
  13. I think they can only change so much without breaking the game though. warthogs are a good example: from a fiction pov it makes no sense but I'd much rather be able to do that than risk being stranded on a vehicle section because I took a poor corner and clipped some rubble or something. The wraith thing annoyed me. They should have limited you more there- although really you only get the chance to do it once. ( in campaign anyway)
  14. Definitely. This is training, not education. I expect to come out of this course ready to actually work in Journalism so if I'm not already working like I would for real...I've basically wasted my time.
  15. heh. I have more than that on my first day never mind week. I'm not complaining though. I want to be working hard and I expect I'll be working like it's a 9-5
  16. yeah don't install it. It bumrags the game up. erm, Anyone got past the second level as Buck yet? For some reason once I do that the next waypoint just sends me back to the first level as him again (the first flashback) I dunno what to doooooooooooo
  17. yet more Halo 3 We did the vidmaster: annual challenge last night. God it was hard. You have to absolutely nail the timing on the final dash across the exploding Halo- with 4 players it's pretty hard to avoid being killed by falling scenery and collapsing floors triggered by the player in the front. Alot of stupid deaths, swearing and 'claw hands' later, we did it though. Soon I shall can haz Recon.
  18. absolutely incredible episode. Ah, Peep Show...
  19. Students and especially student houses are seen as easy targets though. If you think about it, you basically have a bunch of naive, vulnerable kids living away from home for the first time. They will likely have a poor grasp on security etc and that makes a student house easy to knock over. It's a goldmine too- they could lift five laptops from each house or five televisions etc. One friend of mine (in Newcastle at the time) got done by a syndicate working with a mini cab company. She went out with her friends for a club night and when the driver picked them up (emptying the house) the driver tipped off some thieves who waltzed in and cleared them out knowing they wouldn't be disturbed.
