The Legacy of Motion Controls
Fierce_LiNk replied to Fierce_LiNk's topic in General Gaming Discussion
I've yet to play a tennis game since Grand Slam Tennis on the Wii, which was pretty damn good. Going back to driving and shooting, I'm not sure how much motion controls are needed after all in these games. Shooting in particular, it's a little strange going back to a non-pointer control scheme, but it's fine. As for driving, the only game I ever played where I thought they got the tilting controls right was ExciteTruck. I didn't enjoy it in Mario Kart and I don't think you could use such a control scheme for a more serious racing game without losing accuracy. See, that's kinda why I was hoping that Nintendo would have gone for a more advanced Wiimote/motionplus for the WiiU, to give us an improved controller that could handle those tricky corners in racers. -
Yes. No. I'm currently on episode 2. Everything you need to know about the plot of the game is explained within the game. From what I've played, you don't need to have a knowledge of the comic or show. It's its own thing. I'm really enjoying it. I travelled for about 10 hours or so yesterday, came home to a freezing house, didn't even shower til midnight as the water hadn't warmed up until then and I still didn't end up going to bed until 3 because I wanted to play more of this.

I think we either had some the last year or the year before. I remember we had a massive snow day when I first got my job down here. Quite a few really. It's fucking freezing here. The bus driver didn't put the heating on during our return trip, the bugger. -5 in Belgium though when we were leaving at around 11 this morning. Tons of snow there. -
It's snoooowing here in Belgium. It looks very pretty outside. PRETTY GRIM, THAT IS. We've got to do our omega-journey back to the UK tomorrow. Here is our plan. Ine's house to Hasselt train station - Ine's parent's car Hasselt to Brussel - Train Brussel to London St. Pancras International - Eurostar London St. Pancras underground to London Victoria station - Underground train London Victoria to Bournemouth coach station - national express Bournemouth coach station to a friend's house to pick up our car - taxi Friend's house to our house - our car I'll be mega-pissed if the weather causes us problems here. Can see it happening. On the other hand, pretty, pretty snow. Awww.

You've just reminded me of the greatest of all time feature in RE:O, the item dropping mechanic. Fantastic idea. I'd love to play another game like that. Great game. I'm slightly tempted to get this when it comes out now. REmake was such a fantastic experience. More than anything, I want a new Resident Evil title that takes the series back to its survival horror roots. What are the controls like for this? How do the characters move? (e.g. like the remake/clunky-ish mechanics or like RE4. I didn't mind the original's movement at all)

New Playstation brahs, don't forget to download the games off plus. Injusticeeeeeee! Awesome game.

Brb, taking advantage of @Dannyboy\-the\-Dane. We've started watching this again from the beginning. By we, I mean the Belgian, not the Dane. We only saw four episodes anyway, so we thought we'd start from fresh and continue with it. It's improving with every episode and I'm enjoying it.

Thought we played well again today. Hats off to Van Gaal for working on Ashley Young and finding a place for him in the team. He's doing really, really well at left wing back and looked great again in today's match. The front four of Van Persie, Falcao, Rooney and Mata looked excellent. We look far more dangerous than we ever did last season. I don't know where Herrera or Di Maria are going to play in this team without dropping one of those four or without changing the system entirely. Di Maria for Mata makes sense, but Herrera? And Blind, too. We'll probably have to change to 4-3-3/go for the diamond when they're back.

My legs have grown recently (thank you stronglifts and squats), so I had the need to buy new jeans as they were tight in the quad/hamstring area. I bought two new pairs of jeans in a cool shop in Ine's home town Hasselt. Cost me 95€, which works out at around 74 quid. I also got a new hoodie using a voucher that her Dad gave me for Christmas. Looks great. Quite happy with all of that.

The answer is yes. It's one of my favourite games of the last few years. Also, these Lizard Squad folk are lame. Nowt better to do on Christmas Day except ruin somebody else's?

I'm pretty sure it's all paper bullshit. We wouldn't be crazy enough to bid that much for a player (we went beyond our limits with Di Maria and that was only because he was having contract issues at Madrid). Real won't sell anyway, so if there is any truth to it, it's all posturing to show we can compete...if there's any truth. The rumour about a player such as Strootman is much more likely. There's rumours about Vlaar, too. Both of these are much more likely (Both Dutch, both know and have worked under Van Gaal, both would add to the team, both are at clubs that potentially will sell them for the right price).

Happy Birthday to both @Retro_Link (fellow Link bro-fist) and @Ramar, who are celebrating their birthdays on this fine Christmas Eve. Merry Birthmas!

I was a massive fan of the Wii, right from the unveiling of the controller through to playing ExciteTruck for the first time and to becoming very accustomed to the playmaker controls for PES. The controls were unique. Putting aside the drawbacks for the Wii system for now, we shall look closely at the controls. They were different. It allowed us to do something that we couldn't really do beforehand. When Nintendo showed off the GamePad for the first time, my initial reaction was..."but what about the motion controls?" Specifically, the pointer controls. How was I going to go back to a racing game after playing ExciteTruck? How could I make off the ball runs in a football game without the pointer controls? How could I aim in an FPS? So, where exactly are we? Have motion controls proved that they are here to stay or were they a short-time fad? Did they improve how we play games, or is there/was there still much more refinement needed? Personally, I'm torn. The more I play FIFA with a traditional pad, the more I become confused about whether I actually need the motion controls or not. The more I play DriveClub, the more I'm unsure if I need that ability to tilt the controller and if it would offer the precision needed for a serious racing game.

You can have Tom Cleverley if you like. He's off on a free in the summer! (unless Villa get him in January) A bit gutted, I was expecting big things from him. The more I see him play, the more limited he seems.

Unlucky, brah. Sounds horrible. Norovirus? A friend of mine had that, terrible stuff. Get well soon!

We've got a somewhat busy Christmas period. I've already been back home to see the Mum for her birthday at the beginning of December. We're currently in Belgium for Christmas with Ine's family and we're going back to Wales soon to see the Mum again. It's been her first birthday without Dad so I had to be there for that one. We've got to somehow sneak in a trip to Brighton to see my friends and then visit a few people in Bournemouth. We've met up with some of Ine's friends about a week ago and that was nice. Busy, busy, busy. Through all of this, I've got a mountain of work to get through as my teaching timetable has changed from January onwards. Some of our teachers at school have recently had children and they're moving to part-time, which affects our timetables (the knock on effect). So, I'll be in charge of all the Wednesday afternoon sports fixtures and have quite a few other teaching commitments that I'll need to plan for. Basically, all that planning that I had in place last year is useless this year and I have to essentially start again next month. Yaaaay! I wanted to go to Bath to check out the Christmas market there, but I think that'll have to be skipped as we just can't fit it in. We've been to Leuven and have seen their market. Very nice! Although it pissed down with rain. :p

That sounds fantastic. We had something very similar during a Pro Club match. @Hero\-of\-Time was involved but can't remember who was present at the time? @dazzybee? Even the worst football games can still up being pretty fun in multiplayer. I had ISS2 on the GameCube and the game was wooden as fuck, but still awesome in multiplayer. So many matches.

I played this on the XboxOne last night at Ine's sister's house. Played against her husband. Think we started at around 10 and didn't finish til after 1...ooops. Drank Duvel beer for the first time too which is very nice. Every game seemed close. I finished the match with 10 men three times and ended up winning twice, which is a good showing I reckon. In my favourite match, I had a player sent off when I was 4-2 up and ended up winning 7-4. The final goal is the best one I've scored so far. I did a lobbed pass which sailed through the air to the edge of the box where my striker was running on to it. I hit it first time like Van Basten and it sailed into the corner of the net. Hands down, the best goal I've scored. In my second favourite match, I was Borussia Dortmund against his Wolfsberg and he equalised in the 90th minute to make it 3-3. I took the ball from the kick off and gained a free kick on the edge of the box. Marco Reus. In off the bar. He was speechless. Hoping for some more action tonight. Controller seems quite nice although I do find that the analogues (the left one) is slightly inwards and the shoulder buttons are too close, like the entire pad is just a bit small. You adjust to it after a while. Very strange playing FIFA on this instead of with a PS4 pad though!
