Can you play combat training co-op on one wii console?
-
I'm trying to work on my post-xmas backlog and a couple of VC games I've been meaning to finish off. Pro Evo 2010 - still trying to win the champions league with my Mii team on Professional. I keep getting to the quarters and facing Barca or Real, drawing my home leg and then getting whupped when I play away. Just need a lucky break and I'll do it. Zelda OoT: I never actiually finished this on the N64, but now I've got past the water temple that had me stumped 12 years ago and in the shadow temple. Can't believe how well this has aged, design-wise. The graphics may be dated (although I love the retro polygons & textures of the n64 era) but the dungeon design is just superb. I even enjoyed the water temple this time round (probably got more patience than my 16 year old self had) Rune Factory Frontier - Im mid way through autumn now, still stuck on the fire dungeon (bloody golem things) so concentrating on crafting some better defensive clothing. Little King's Story - Just started a second playthrough, it's still amazingly good fun to play and Im noticing loads of little touches I never saw before (try throwing carefree adults into the town well...) DKC Returns - This hasn't grabbed me as I hoped it would. Im struggling with the controls and I don't think i'm cut out for twitch gaming like I used to be. Still, Retro have undoubtedly crafted a really nice game with some great set pieces and level ideas. Sonic Colours - I'm really impressed with this! I've never been a huge Sonic fan (not since sonic 2 anyway) so this was a bit of a risky purchase for me. But I'm so glad I bought it - it has some fantastic looking levels and the wisp abilities are awesome. Plus the bosses are really cool too. Def the best Sonic game since the mega drive titles imo.

I enjoyed Casino Royale but Quantum of Solace was just awful. It felt like a generic action film, with almost nothing that made it feel like a true Bond film. I've always hoped one of the films would give Bond an assignment that effectively makes Bond a villain - kinda like if MI6 took on a mission that was vital to government security but ethically and morally wrong and explore how Bond reacted to being the 'bad guy' for once.

How do you get them to accept the WPA settings then? My dsi/xl both connect to my bt network via WPA fine, but the games dont seem to want to??? Although ive only tried DQ9 admittedly...

Part of me misses the days of gaming when rumours like this were always appearing in gaming mags - I always got suckered in! Kinda made the games a bit more fun (remember a mate convinced me there was a secret world in DKC you could unlock if you completed the entire snow world without dying. Spent two weeks trying to get that....)

First Strangers Wrath and now BG&E....I am so happy!!! I completed it 99% back in the day but missed one of those orb things in one of the dungeons and couldn't get back to the room it was in :/ I hope some more 128bit-era games get the digital HD re-release treatment. Would be great to see games like Freedom Fighters and Metal Arms given another chance to shine.

I've repurchased this to play Shadow Broker, so i've got a spare cerberus network key if anyone wants it? First come first served: 5VHT-S6E6-35XB-ZAFF Enjoy!!

Yeah but translators cost a fortune - anywhere between £30-75k per year depending on the languages involved (Japanese being one of the hardest), and with bigger teams you need a better, more expensive project manager to keep the writing style together and not make it look like a dozen people have written it. If you have anymore than a team of twelve translators working on a project you're unlikely to turn a profit, something made all the more difficult with a niche genre on a platform with a small audience for that genre. Nintendo is a business and I can understand why from a business point of view they'd be reluctant to put huge resources behind such projects. Still, as a gamer I really hope Nintendo lose their business sense for this and last story and get a huge team on the job right now!

Why are people surprised they havent mentioned a us/pal release at this event - its only focussing on the upcoming japanese release. I'm sure it'll be released eventually just not until 2012. After all nintendo have had their translators working on pokemon black/white, they still have xenoblade to work on, and all the 3ds stuff. Last story has a huge amount of text & speech to translate so i hope they take their time and make an awesome job of it. My gaming backlog has got so big since xmas i think i've got enough to last me till then (its still in my top 3 anticipated games tho...)

I've started my third playthrough - this time on 007 classic which is brilliant fun! But I had a thought while replaying: are there ANY grenades in single player? I don't remember seeing a single one and there have been countless times I would have loved to mess about hurling grenades at groups of guards. Also, do you unlock anything when you complete a time trial? I've done a couple now but nothing has happened as far as I can tell. Would be a shame if not, seeing as the original had some great rewards for fast completion times.

I don't think Nintendo will have any trouble shifting hardware to the masses, the 3DS is going to be a huge seller just on the back of being 'the next big thing' (well that and having an awesome software lineup...) But selling games to the casual market may be tougher now that apps and facebook have taken such a big chunk of the (casual) market. It's not just cash they've sapped from potential buyers, but free-time too (I've lost count of the number of hours my family have spent on farmville instead of their DS games...) Whatever happens, Nintendo will still makes tonnes of money, at least until Sony, Apple and MS bring out their own 3D touch screen devices.

Happy Christmas to all the N-E staffers and forum regulars, hope you've had a good one!!

Didn't the old ones give you 3 seconds to change worm if you wanted to?

Seeing this thread reappear gives me a warm feeling inside.

I forgot about that - yeah it's pretty good fun! That reminds me of another game I missed off my list, Monkey Flight where you have to fire a bouncy monkey around a level picking up fruit. Incredibly good fun! It's also by Donut Games btw.

I got my copy a bit early and after three hours with the game I can safely say this is one of my favourite Wii games EVER!! The reviews that mention bad controls and terrible camera work may be going over the top imo - I never found them distracting in the slightest and these are two things that usually wreck a game for me. The animation on Mickey is superb and the worlds you explore are as vivd and unique as any i've played this generation. There are so many great little touches you'd think Nintendo had had a hand in its development. I have to say hats off to Spector and the team for doing Disney justice and proving my doubts to be completely wrong. It's a shame that reviewers haven't seemed to take to this as I have but hopefully the N-E faithful will be abit more discerning and give it a chance. I really don't think you'll be disappointed.

I regularly play games on me good ol iPhone, these are my faves: Bomboozle - A simple but very addictive 'match 3' style puzzler with charming graphics and music. Created by a former Cube-Europe forumer, Sovan Jedi. Definitely worth a purchase if you like supporting indie puzzlers. Coin Dozer - Remember all the fun you had on those 2p machines where you could win more 2ps? Well here's the ultimate iPhone version! This has made toilet breaks so much more enjoyable and best of all it's completely free. Zentomino - A great puzzler where you have to fit together a bunch of tetris-like blocks to form piictures. Highly recommended if you want a relaxed puzzle game. Orbital - Incredibly surreal and a bit tough to describe (but I'll give it a go). You fire orbs down-screen trying to bounce them off one another. Once an orb comes to a stop it expands until it hits the side of the grid or another orb; the trick is to try and aim your orb so it ricochets off others. If you hit one enough times it explodes which can make nearby orbs explode as well (so great chain-combo opportunities!). I may not make it sound too great but trust me it's really addictive. Imagine Bust-a-move mixed with geometry wars! Giana Sisters - An iPhone version of the superb (and rare) c64 classic. It may rip off Mario in terms of gameplay but the level design and difficulty level mark it out as much more than just a mere clone. Unblock me - Remember those puzzles in professor layton where you have to move blocks around to get one special block out? Well this is full of 300 of those puzzles. And it's all free! Game Dev Story - Ever wanted to be a game designer? Get Game Dev Story! It's an incredibly addictive resource management game where you have to manage a game studio and create your own games!

Wow that does look amazing! I was on the fence with this but I think I'll have to add to my Xmas list. I'm really impressed with how they blend the side-on 2D gameplay with the into-the-screen sections - kinda reminds me of Retro's work on Metroid Prime's 2D morphball bits. Also those graphics are amazing, surely some of the best on Wii so far. This Xmas is gonna be soooo expensive.

I've had loads of fun with 'fringe' games like TvC, FFCC:TCB, Res Evil DC, NMH 2, Red Steel 2, Rune Factory Frontier, Fragile Dreams and Silent Hill Shattered Memories. Plus Mario Galaxy 2 has to be the best game this gen for me! So yep 2010 has definitely been the wii's best year and personally its been my fave for any year/console of this gen so far!

You forgot A Boy and his Blob & A Shadow's Tale! I am looking forward to this christmas so much, probably as much as I have since 1998 (ocarina of time). DKC Returns, Goldeneye, Epic Mickey, Black Ops, Sonic Colours....It's a very good time to be a Wii owner!

[Spoilers] Where does Metroid go from here?
daftada replied to LostOverThere's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I wouldn't mind a little detour for the series along the lines of Hunters, but for the Wii or 3DS. Just to give Sakamoto time to find a really solid direction to take the main series. It would also be good to have another out and out action FPS set in the Metroid universe, especially now Nintendo seem to be getting a better handle on how to implement online options. -
Mahooosive bumpage: This is £14.99 over at Amazon, never been a better time to pick up this absolute gem. If you've enjoyed Harvest Moon games in the past this should be essential. HM farming plus awesome RPG and Dungeon elements equals best farming game with rpg bits ever.
-
Buy it!! It's one of those games where you'll either find boring or (like me) be completely captivated by the atmospheric graphics, haunting soundtrack and emotional story. Either way £15 is just too good a price not to take the plunge. As someone else said here, it's one of my fave games this generation.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies

What difference do the slimes you see on the loading page make to your game? I've spotted a few Orange ones from time to time, wasn't even aware they were anything other than a little graphical tweak! Amazing how this game has so much depth to it, I'm really enjoying it! -
Depends on the team size and development time. I'd say a small team and 12 months development would cost £250,000 so they'd need around 50k units to cover development. If you add marketing, production and distribution costs into the equation they might need closer to 200-300k units worldwide to break even.
