I don't get it either. Looks like a big BOTW style sandbox, but with the most important part, the fun, sucked out of it and replaced with menial tasks. People are hyped because they worship Kojima I guess? I've never gotten that either. It looks pretty though, I like the UI.

That's a really poor cover. It looks fan made. Hopefully not final.

They reward you with inventory upgrades first off, which were very useful. The devs never meant for you to collect them all but they are there to stumble on from time to time. I collected a couple of hundred of them, and I enjoyed them as a nice little distraction. -

Well said. Take a game like Celeste. You might think the controls amount to just jump, dash and wall climb but there's TONS of hidden controls and manoeuvres you can do. They get taught to you throughout the campaign and B, C sides, but you were perfectly capable of doing them at the start, most just don't have the experience/knowledge to. And let's not pretend the game doesn't have gameplay mechanics in the form of 120 shrines, the puzzle box divine beasts, the sequences to break into the beasts, side quests, memories, combat encounters or all the emergent things that you can do/happen. Just because you have all the tools at your disposal doesn't mean all the gameplay is experienced in the first couple of hours. If it did why would people put 100+ hours into the game. -

Does it really matter which arbitrary grid box you're in? If you add item gating to BOTW it completely changes the game. It wouldn't be BOTW anymore. We've had 16+ games of rigid Zelda structure, those still exist, but they went in a different direction and it was one of their biggest critical hits ever. Half arsing the approach wouldn't have improved it. -
I wasn't a fan of TLJ teaser poster, but the final poster was absolutely stunning. Not a fan of the above at all, but I'm sure the release one will be great. On another note, Triple Force Friday livestream coming in a couple of days... https://www.starwars.com/news/triple-force-friday-livestream New Fallen Order trailer sounds good. Looking forward to the merch reveals too obv

I’m on my phone so can’t reply properly but what I would say is Metroid fans have been starved of decent games lately and so such a big departure from what the series is known for might not be received well. Zelda meanwhile had 16 previous games that followed the same or a similar formula so fans were mostly happy to see them try something different. -
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening REMAKE — 20th September 2019

Just started playing this, my god it's stunning. Such an eerie dream-like vibe to the place, perfectly captures the original. They should have ditched the tilt shift though to improve the performance. -

It's a lovely box, not opened it yet, Rugby World Cup about to start! I got the rupee, it's annoying though, there's a green one, they just didn't offer it. Guess they had red/blue stock to shift -

Probably because Nintendo don't operate under a 'release broken now, fix later' approach most of the rest of the industry does. They get "showered with praise" because their games never release broken or buggy. -

It'd be terrible if you kill enemies in the overworld and they don't respawn. That'd be so boring half way in when you're traversing a ghost town! Also I thought the overworld was seamless, without any screens. -
I can’t believe it took three posts to get there!

General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion

I don't think Backwards compatibility was part of some grand plan to differentiate the console, I just think it was a much requested feature than they managed to implement, and implement well. I'm sure Playstation gamers would love the feature too, regardless of how used it ends up being. It's better than not having it there, to the point where I'm sure PS5 will be backwards compatible. I think it's fair to say Sony have sat back and just released great games this gen. They haven't had to do much else obviously. Xbox has done a lot more behind the scenes to set them up for next gen, and Game Pass could be/already is a game changer. -

Next gen is going to be very interesting between Sony and Microsoft. Game Pass and more first party output could swing things around for Xbox in a big way, especially if PS5 is just more of the same. Sony seem happy to just coast along this whole gen and rely on first party games, we'll see what innovations they'll bring to the table next year I guess. -
I used the voucher on Mario Maker, I’m usually physical for first party games but that’s one I’ll always want on my system. They’re good for exceptions like that if you plan on doing similar. I’ll use the other one on Animal Crossing, if anything suits digital, it’s AC.
