  1. Have you tried Nobody Saves the World? Also on Xbox. I don't have an Xbox but I heard it's meant to be good. A zelda-like roguelike in terms of combat and really nice presentation.
  2. It hardly "plays" better, though, does it? Sluggishly low frame rate and oil smear resolution awaits if you hook up an N64 to a modern TV these days. Also talking about cutscenes, for me that's hardly a big deal for this kind of game. This isn't Final Fantasy we're talking about. I'd rather have the game looking and running smoother for 99% of the time than the other 1%. I played the X360 version when it launched and I thought it was a massive improvement on playing the original game. I think the problem here is tabulating every "fault" of the X360 version and giving it equal weight to the faults of the original. The areas the X360 version improves on are really significant IMO. I think you're giving way too much credit to preserving the original game, even for the sake of it.
  3. Say what you will about the X360 version but let's not pretend playing the original version on N64 is better in this day and age. You can point out as many specific issues with the X360 version as you want but it's a clear performance upgrade on the original. It's not even easy to play N64 games on modern TVs these days so it's been a great alternative for many years now. Also, Nintendo locking these games behind a subscription (in which you must also pay extra for online, which you may not even want) is garbage.
  4. I don't really like progression indicators. Most of the time they feel inaccurate because they're not actually reflective of how much of the game is really left. Also I think I'm the sort of person that doesn't want to know how close I am to the end. It's not like with a film where you can see precisely how much you've watched and how much is left.
  5. This is kind of crazy, I can imagine this could work out pretty well in terms of reforming such a shitty company, though. Overwatch is one of my favourite games so you have to wonder what's going to happen with it. OW2 is already planned to be fully compatible with OW1 so it's not like there'll be much reason to restrict the sequel just to Xbox and PC. We'll we how it goes!
  6. You should tell the other attendees that you have a PhD. They'll love that.
  7. Haha. That's proper bollocks, that. Is avoiding the points really much of an issue if you hardly ever accrue points?
  8. Let's not forget that Ichigo also turned up to Soul Society at the beginning as a complete novice then near enough wrecked everyone. My memory is fuzzy but I seem to remember that happening...
  9. According to Tapatalk, Animal/Beast, Aneres and Eddage all use it too. Pretty sure Animal used to have the default Tapatalk signature too. That's got to be like...a quarter of the active userbase!
  10. I can vouch as someone who uses it religiously, think there's a few more of us who use it. I just find it so much easier to see at a glance the last 10 or so posts made on the forum, and the push notifications work much better too. Thanks for fixing it!
  11. I don't think it is, from what I understand (and after contacting Tapatalk support) it's to do with the forum Tapatalk plugin. Think we just need to wait for the N-E admin to fix/update it so Tapatalk will work with N-E again.
  12. That's believable, Plus offerings tend to be better around Christmas/New Year to get people new to the system subbed to Plus. You know what I would like to see though - Binding of Isaac Repentance for PS5. It's in a weird place now where people with the PS4 version of Rebirth and later DLCs can buy the Repentance PS4 upgrade for cheaper but won't get the PS5 version. And it's 50 quid for the PS5 version...so would be really good to get hold of it via Plus.
  13. I agree that this game didn't need to be a roguelike, in hindsight. For one, it's far too easy; I could start up a run and be pretty much guaranteed to succeed. All of the bosses are pretty easy. Second, each run (unless you are really rushing) is much longer than your typical roguelike run. I think a lot of that is down to it being a big game and a 3D one. It starts to feel less like a roguelike anyway, and most runs end up playing exactly the same. It's not like Binding of Isaac where your items and character (and in game route choices) can result in drastically different runs. Third, they tuck away lore pieces like audio logs and ciphers in specific areas that may not even appear in 20-30 runs. It's just frustrating and poor game design - and annoyingly it's tied to the platinum trophy to get them all. I say this as someone who absolutely loves roguelikes too, and has played loads of them. I really like this game but I don't think it really needed to be a roguelike. If there was much more variety, and perhaps different characters, it would justify being a roguelike. As it stands though I'm really only playing through it now to find some ciphers and audio logs.
  14. They should just give away the PS5 full version with Plus. Total shambles of a situation.
  15. Yeah, this game is great. I've basically fully completed it now except for doing the surveys for the platinum. I've done everything else so now I'd really like to complete this last bit for the trophy, but man.... Basically, completing a survey means scanning all ciphers and finding all audio logs (plus a few other things) in each biome. Trouble is some ciphers only have something like a 1 in 5 chance of appearing in a given run.
  16. Probably quite easy in this case, likely this was a PS4 game initially that moved over to PS5 partway through. "We believe in generations" indeed.
  17. Oh no, oh no. That's a massively irritating, verbal-diarrhoea-afflicted playable character alright. And what's with the enemies? They look like zombies. Is "zombies" a magical catch all to excuse devs from creating convincing enemy AI now?
  18. @Goafer one for the collection, surely? Saw this limited vinyl collection posted on Eurogamer and thought it'd be right up your street. 300 quid though...
  19. Haha. Can you imagine... Do people expect BOTW 2 to come out next year? Feels like the kind of game that will easily be delayed given we haven't seen much of it already.
  20. You think it took them a year and a half to put classic games on because they were worried people would turn down Breath of the Wild to play Link to the Past? I like how you say "it's why it took them a year and a half" like this is gospel truth. Like...what?
  21. The reason they're drip feeding them and making 12-month minimum subscriptions is to keep people subscribed for longer (at least, that's what they think). Now, that's the business side of things. Nothing to do with them being worried that if they dropped them all at once that people wouldn't buy new games. No idea where you're getting that idea from. However as I said, I think this shows a lack of belief in their product. They are worried that if they allow people to sub for just a month and put all their games on there at once that people would just sub for a month and leave. I don't think that would be true though. If you have a big enough library then that becomes an enticing reason to stay subscribed. It works even better if they add newer games to the service every so often too.
  22. What you said doesn't make sense to me either way. If they didn't want you to play older games then why supply a subscription that provides exactly that? Any time spent on the subscription games is time that could have been spent on new Switch games. There's no evidence to suggest what you say is true. If it was true then the existence of PS Now would surely cannibalise sales of new games to the point that there'd be a crisis? There's so many games on PS Now that if everyone played them, they literally would never have time to play new games. To me it's like you're suggesting if they dropped 3 or 4 old Mario games on the service then nobody would want to buy Mario Odyssey, for instance. That's just an utterly bizarre suggestion to me, not sure how anyone could think that might be the case?
  23. If they only wanted you to play modern games then this service wouldn't exist. Thus, that's patently not true. Also, you accidentally linking your ROM site there, Ronnie? Or should I say ROMmie?
  24. This is exactly what they should do, I think. To lock people into 12 month subscriptions (rather than pay monthly) and to drip feed content shows a lack of faith in the product, I think.
  25. The issue for me is that this should really contain their full (or near enough full) back catalogue for people to access, and serve as a means to play these games which are no longer obtainable. The idea of drip feeding content as a means to keep people subscribed over longer periods of time doesn't sit well with me. Put this another way, at the rate of adding one N64 game every 1.5 months, to end up with 90% of N64's game library on the service (354 games), minus the 10 already on there now, that would take another 43 years. And let's not get started on the mega drive library.
