Interested in seeing how many people here will still be picking up Splatoon now that we know voice chat won't be available. This is just to try and gauge how much the lack of voice chat has potentially affected sales of the game among the N-E community, so please don't take part in the poll if you were never intending to buy Splatoon anyway. I also figured it'd be good to have a thread where there could be discussion about the voice chat situation in Splatoon specifically, so that the main thread can move on and focus on everything else the game has to offer. But please don't use this thread as an opportunity to criticise anyone who's no longer purchasing the game due to the omission of voice chat, or likewise those that are still getting it regardless. : peace:

Nintendo and Online Gaming. What's The Deal?

Few more pics I've taken: The last one in that set is from when I somehow managed to do this:

Yeah, I'd be absolutely amazed if Splatoon is native 1080p. I'm expecting 720p like most Wii U games. Just checked out the official Japanese site, there's a clean version of the theme music on there!: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/wiiu/agmj/index.html Can't get enough of that tune. Really hope Nintendo do an OST CD for this game.

Saw all the activity in here and instantly knew the shit had hit the fan. At least the lack of voice chat is finally confirmed. Hopefully discussion in this thread will soon be able to focus on the game itself, which really does look and sound amazing. :awesome: Single player: Liking the music in those vids, nice to know that style from the 2nd trailer is going to feature in-game.

Yeah, I finished Valiant Hearts recently, ending was full-on. Gameplay was pretty formulaic, and the puzzle elements were incredibly simple (although it did have me scratching my head on a couple of occasions) but I was compelled to keep playing due to the story. Unusual for me, as that's the aspect of gaming I give least importance to, but in this case it really was the driving force. Same here. Gotta love PS+. In other gaming diary news... Yesterday I decided to go back to an older game (something I rarely do these days) and I ended up playing through one of my favourite Wii games, Beat the Beat: Rhythm Paradise (all the way to Remix 10) in a single session. :awesome: Man, that game is as fantastic as ever. I had an ear to ear grin on my face the entire time. I also decided to skip the practice sections, which made things even funnier when I couldn't remember which games used A+B inputs.

@Cookyman, I noticed a message saying you had joined the session a minute ago while I was playing the tour mode, so I went to the multiplayer and selected an event, thinking we'd be in the same race, but then I didn't see you in the lobby. It also came up with a message saying that I hadn't unlocked the car being used or something like that, so I just backed out. Is the online setup on this really confusing/awkward, or am I just thick? Apologies, either way.

I'm thinking it's because hardware-wise the console just has so much potential, I mean it's feature packed with stuff like built-in screen/video capture, video editing, live streaming, all of the social stuff and online aspects, nice integration with the mobile app.Even little things like music playback via USB that can run in the background (which I only discovered the other day ) is really cool. And there's the suspend/resume feature coming soon apparently, which should be another great addition. I agree with you as far as the games are concerned though, the retail games I've played so far (Alien, LBP3 and Driveclub) are good, but they're essentially just filling the gap until titles I'd really like to play are available, stuff like The Tomorrow Children, Rime, Tearaway, Just Cause 3, New Mingol Project... I've actually had much more enjoyment playing PSN stuff on PS4 so far, with Resogun and OlliOlli 2 being the highlights. :awesome: Perhaps I jumped on the PS4 ship a tad too early, but I don't regret it. Got a good deal in the January sales, am ready for whenever the games I'm looking forward to start arriving, and I'm getting to play a lot of new stuff every month thanks to PS+ in the meantime.

Now? They've been like that for a while already. I've never been a huge fan of Metal Gear, in fact I kind of hold it and Kojima responsible for destroying Konami in the first place, and for popularising the stealth mechanic in gaming (which I absolutely can't stand). All of this focus on Metal Gear and Pro Evo, meanwhile greats like Mystical Ninja, Parodius, TwinBee, Contra, Castlevania, Bomberman, Eledees etc... have either gone to shit, or been forgotten about entirely! Konami died a long time ago in my eyes.

You're in it.

Next week is too late dammit! Here's hoping they have a final date for Splatoon at least.
-
Holy crap, just 8 games with confirmed release dates on the list currently, across Wii U and 3DS. 7 really, considering Inazuma Eleven is more or less the same game. Nintendo, you need to be broadcasting a Direct ASAP!!
-
I haven't. Didn't really enjoy the last Mario vs DK that much, and I've got so many other games on the go at the moment anyway. You enjoying it?
-
Hopefully these download codes will stay available until the very end of Club Nintendo, so there's something to spend stars on in the event that no more actual items are added. Just gimme that MK8 CD, Nintendo! BTW, when the hell did Wii Street U become a paid download!? That's mental.

My capture device crashed during the 1st GP (noticed when I went to grab the results screen) so I don't have that pic. @The Mole I'm assuming you took pics, or if not @BowserBasher, you're usually capturing too, right?
-
Really, of which characters? If it's any that are also in amiibo form, then that's a really shitty move by Nintendo to lock this mode to the Toad amiibo.
-
The site must be getting hammered, it won't load up for me at all. Got loads of stars left to redeem, but not sure if I want to go for this kind of stuff anyway, just incase they still add some cool physical items. Japanese Club Nintendo got a MK8 soundtrack recently, which I'd love to get my hands on.

Nintendo & DeNA Business Agreement - Nintendo on Smartphones
RedShell replied to Serebii's topic in Nintendo Gaming
To be honest I'm still pretty surprised this is actually happening, I genuinely didn't see Nintendo making this kind of move. Anyway, it's going to be really interesting to see how this all unfolds. I think it would be cool if Nintendo produced mobile titles that somehow link directly to their dedicated console games, something which offers an incentive for playing both. Not sure exactly how/what that could be, but I think that simply dishing out standalone "light" versions of their games on mobile devices won't necessarily get people then upgrading to the console side of things. Time will tell I guess. -
Yeah, Sonic Transformed was actually better than I initially expected it be, but it's miles away from the quality of Mario Kart. And stuff like this happened quite a bit: For me MK8 is still the best game available on Wii U, despite the Battle Mode being borked, and it being a bit light on certain content. But apart from that it's an absolute gem of a game, it looks and sounds incredible, and the gameplay is spot-on. Super responsive, definitely fast enough, and locked at 60fps. :awesome: Perfection. Of course I'd like MK to expand a bit more, some additional focus on single player aspects like DKR and MKDS would be awesome. But as long as the game continues to provide multiplayer mayhem like this: it's enough to keep me coming back for more every time.

Is this the norm for amiibo sent from ShopTo now then? Last one I got from there was shipped in a jiffy bag.
-
I had no idea you could do that! Well, I knew mp3 playback was possible, but didn't realise it could run in the background while playing a game. :awesome: Stuck some tunes on a USB stick last night while playing DriveClub and OlliOlli2. :awesome: It didn't help my driving/skating at all (in fact it might have made 'em worse ) but it made playing those games even more enjoyable. Shame it doesn't automatically mute the game soundtrack when doing this, but it only takes a few seconds to do that manually so no big deal. I wonder if the Spotify method will have such a feature.

It just had to be done. *EDIT* If anyone is feeling sorry for Luigi, then set your avatar to this:

Nope. I was doing the daily amiibo scans on Hyrule Warriors, but stopped a few weeks ago. Getting four 1 Rupee prizes in a row once was the last straw. Now it's just a case of connecting my Fit Meter every so often, and the N-E MK8 League on Thursday evenings. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't be powering up the Wii U at all right now. The MK8 DLC and Splatoon can't get here soon enough as far as I'm concerned.
