  1. For my next entry into my diary, I've decided to call this post... Bloody Hell, Glen. You're Mental! A small little testament to the insane amount of time I've spent (Probably wasted) reaching particular milestones in games I've played. So we'll start with Fire Emblem: Awakening. Fear the Pie Brigade. FEAR IT! For those of you not in the know, renown is basically a point based system for fighting people you pass in Streetpass. About 6 months ago, I finally maxed it out. Huh? What'd I get? Actually, an item that sells for a lot of money. Which I suppose would be useful if I ever did a Lunatic difficulty run. So nothing then... Yep, it's bloody Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition again. You might remember me literally punching through Diamond to finish every stage in this incredibly difficult game last year. Well yeah, I wasn't satisfied. I wanted to unlock every character as well. Boomerang Luigi pictured above could only be unlocked by completing the last Score Challenge with a very high score. It demands getting a very strong team (If it ain't Level 99, they might as well not bother), and then pretty much finishing it without ever getting hit. Trust me, not easy. But I did it! And then I leveled every character to 99. For that extra layer of crazy. Not enough 9's for you? Here then, have some more. I also maxed out the Rhythmia counter in Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call. And amazingly enough, I got something for it. As you can see above. It's nothing big, but at least you get something. To be honest though, this particular loony trip was fine by me. I love this game. I still boot it up and knock out a few quests just because it's so fun. Which leads me nicely to... Final Fantasy is easily one of the most influential games from the NES era. It really kicked off the turn-based RPG over in the west, after all. Of course, it being an old-school RPG, it never actually came out in Europe. Not until 2003 on the Playstation. I played the GBA version that came out in 2004. Fun fact: it's the game that introduced me to the series. But you probably knew that already. The story follows four "Warriors of Light" who are destined to reawaken the four Crystals and save the world. Hey, it's an old game. Cut it some slack. So yeah, the story is about as basic as you can get. And that's about all I can say. The gameplay consists of very traditional turn-based RPG goodness. You choose what your party does and watch them go. A cool thing is that at the beginning of the game, you can select from 6 different classes to build your party from. Pretty big back in the NES days. It helps with repeat playthroughs, you know? Add some spice to it. Thankfully the game is pretty easy, so no matter what you choose, you should be able to get through the game. Well, as long as you don't do something stupid and choose 4 White Mages. But that's just common... Ah... So yeah, 4 healer characters, quite a lot of money grinding for spells and whole lot of hammering for 10HP damage. Final Fantasy wasn't really designed for stupid party setups like this. But that's all part of the fun. There was definitely some road blocks that required some unorthodox strategies to break past, but it was strangely satisfying getting these 4 identical pathetic excuses for fighters past some eldritch abominations. Including a train from the future! You can't suplex it though... The graphics translate well from the Playstation version nicely. What's more impressive is the music. Most GBA ports tended to sound horrible, but this manages to maintain a high quality version of the Playstation version. I'm not sure how Square did it, but its sounds really close. Final Fantasy is worth having a look at, if only to know where the series started. The GBA version is certainly not a bad place for the RPG newbie to start, but there's plenty of other versions out there. Oh, and as for It, Will, Never and Work... The comic is 8-Bit Theater, one of the best gaming webcomics I've read. Those 2 pictures were over 9 years apart, making it the longest call back in webcomic history. The comic is hilarious.
  2. That's been a thing ever since Gen 5 introduced mandatory Legendaries. You can't carry on unless you get the cover Pokemon. So they wanted to minimise frustration there. The Ultra Beasts are pretty simple to catch, however. Mostly because of the special balls you get. The other Legendaries are genuine pains to capture though. (Tapu Fini and Necrozma are especially difficult. I just ended up Master Balling Necrozma)
  3. Woo! I finished the game without ever leaving the demo! Man, I'm awesome! Great to see you enjoyed it. This is going to be the first game I buy once I pay off my Switch... And my mini SNES.
  4. The most important thing is whether she's British in the Western translation. Yes, the most important. Don't try and tell me otherwise.
  5. We're still gonna get Paper Mario at 50hz though. Good thing Switch is region free, huh?
  6. Probably not. These seem like traditional "Third Version" games. Same basic plot and setting with a few extra scenes and modifications to the story. You might have to trade with some people with Sun and Moon to get certain Pokemon though. But that's about it.
  7. Going back to Kanto would be such a lame surprise. You're right, it's been done before. The fact that it's possible to go to Kanto on 4 seperate games is bordering on a bit much. Doesn't help that Kanto is one of the more dull regions in both aesthetic and content. You want a real surprise? You bust out Sinnoh or Unova. You want to blindside fans. You have a return to Orre. No-one would see that coming. Or just bring back Battle Frontier. Make the post-game meaningful again. If we're in for a 5th trip to Kanto, I'm at risk of going blind from too much eye rollage.
  8. Methinks Magnus is a very Pro-Bing kind of person. Well, whatever turns you on.
  9. It's always a peculiar phenomenon. Back in our childhood, games were a lot more precious to us, due to how little we got. It was pretty normal for most 80's/90's kids to get new games only on Birthdays and Christmas. So when you got a game, you worked on it. Hard. The increased ease of getting a game these days will inevitably make gamers, both young and old, to be less tolerant of repeated failure. I'd like to think I try to avoid that, but even I sometimes fall victim to the thought of "I'd much rather spend my time making progress somewhere else" sometimes. Despite that, I never find myself wondering how I did something in a past game. I tend to have a creepy memory of games I've played before. Quickly recognising where secrets are, the best way to tackle an obstacle, stuff like that. Just ask @Dcubed whenever I play a Metroid game again. It has it's uses, although it ruins repeat playthroughs of visual novels. All I realise is that younger me, while not as skilled at games, had a hell of a lot more time and a hell of a lot less games.

Part of me thinks that's actually kinda cool. The rest of me is thinking, "They use a Mac?"
  11. Everyswhere - adverb - a place filled with many obscenities in a written form. "I had to leave the nightclub because it was everyswhere."
  12. You know, other nationalities would put priorities on pointing out that they don't own a gun.

Oh please. I don't have a band. I'm a positively smashing rap artist!

I'm just here wondering what the J stands for. Or is it an actual alternate J? Because that's just a curved L. L is a stupid name for a band.
  15. That's not my second name, dude. You got two of the letters right though. Nice try.
  16. As soon as I saw Salazzle in my Sun playthrough, my first thought was "I can't believe this got past PEGI" It's amazingly suggestive.
  17. @Dcubed, some of his family and me have been playing JackBox Party Games, mostly Quiplash, which is an utter riot if you have at least 4 people around. The basic premise is that you're given prompts which you have to think of witty quips for and you're given points on how many of the others (Or even people watching you live stream) vote for. Naturally, hilarity ensues. Especially when great minds think alike... My answer was the one on the right, and no-one voted for mine! The game's great! I'm thinking it might be fun to live stream a few games in the future and have some N-Europers be part of the audience and vote, etc.
  18. Yes please, that'd be smashing!
  19. Hmmm... That sounds more Pokemon Crystal, less Pokemon Black 2/White 2. Which is a bit of a shame, considering the open-ended ending. They could still elaborate on what happens after but...
  20. You'd be amazed at how much of a selling point that can be for some people. Isn't that right, @Dcubed?
  21. Shiny boxes containing download codes will be released. For you physical nutjobs out there. Still no Crystal, so a big nope from me.
  22. I saw your post on the notification pop-up column on the right hand side of the screen and knew exactly what trailer you were talking about. Because you're completely correct.
  23. No-one tell him he's trapped in his own little bubble... That none of us can see, because he chose invisibility.
  24. I'll use the N-E League to demonstrate this. Here is non-bling. And now I'll introduce some Bling. Naturally, Gold Mario is for those insufferable berks who just have to lawd their so-called superiority over others just to look better, but they just end up ruining it for everyone else. Like Pink Gold Peach, but with an added dose of smugness. Which makes him worse than Pink Gold Peach, which was unthinkable 3 years ago. And yes, that particular Gold Mario was me. Woopsies!
  25. Penultimate batch of Mega Stones were given out a few days ago. Go to Mystery Gift and use the code POYONG. This will get you Gardevoirite, Galladite, and Lopunnite (Previously given for entering the Tiny Tourney). Diancite is also part of this. (Previously unavailable in S/M) Assuming you entered the Weakness Cup last month (I did) It's now possible to have every Mega Evolution in Sun and Moon. EDIT: Holy crap! @Serebii Does the next Online Competition allow for Mega Stones to be used? Because if so, it's about bloody time!
