Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury (12 Feb 2021)
Glen-i replied to Ronnie's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Graphics aren't as important as gameplay. And a Mario platformer that doesn't run at 60 FPS is downright bizarre! That's just not up to Mario's high performance standards. -
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & The Blade of Light (4th December 2020)

I knew you couldn't resist! -
Yep, no items, hazardless stage, 1 life. Go to sleep with it running, and spend the next morning trying to beat him up and unlock him. People complaining about the unlock methods in Smash Ultimate don't appreciate the lengths kids went to when unlocking secrets.
-
And here I am thinking Smash Bros Melee was always dumb in the method of waiting 20 hours of total VS match time so you could unlock Mewtwo... I'm relatively old these days.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & The Blade of Light (4th December 2020)

Holy hell! Will you finally play Fire Emblem Echoes now!? You complain so much about Awakening and Three Houses (and I do agree with you on some of those points) and yet Echoes is so your kind of Fire Emblem, it's maddening you haven't touched it! -
Helps that Mii Swordfighter also cribbed 33% of their moveset from the Tales of series anyway!

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch

I mean, if you're going for 100% damage-less speedruns on BotW, it might be time to consider playing a different game? -
Yep, it's a matter of when, not if. Honestly, at this point, I just think Namco deserve a second character at this point. Their team have put so much into Smash 4 and Ultimate and they still only have Pac-Man. Don't get me wrong, Pac-Man absolutely had to be the first Namco Smash Rep, but it's been long enough. Let Lloyd have a go. (Certainly not who I would choose from Namco, but I know quite a few people who would be super hype about Lloyd, so that's the big reason I hope for him)

COVID-19 (The artist formally known as Coronavirus)
Glen-i replied to bob's topic in General Chit Chat
Just reporting in to tell you all that I received my first dose jab this morning. It was Astra Zenica and with that news that it might reduce transmissions, I have every right to post the following GIF. Even more so because I'm petrified of needles. -
Nah, mate, it's been getting TV adverts. I remember because I thought to myself "Claiming that fans of Animal Crossing would love Pikmin 3 has gotta be false advertising"
-
It's about as old-school RPG as you can expect. But it has very solid foundations and a nice modern budget. Definitely give it a go. It's one of the most famous RPG franchises for a very good reason.
-
Nah, that at least has the option of just blitzing through to the end of the level. If you're doing Lost Impact, you're going for a specific ending, which means you have to go for the Hero Mission and it's atrocious.
-
Lost Impact on Shadow the Hedgehog is quite frankly the absolute worst 3D Sonic level I have ever played. It's actually made me retroactively hate Maria from Sonic Adventure 2. That's how bad it is. Pure misery in level form.
-
That point in the game is absolutely spectacular and was the point where it elevated DQ XI S to "Best Dragon Quest" in my eyes. The timing is so well executed. Getting more and more tempted to do my 3D playthrough. Unfortunately, I have much crappier commitments at the moment.
-
As of today, I have gotten 7 Game Overs on the same level in Shadow The Hedgehog. (Before you ask, @Dcubed, yes, it's still the same level) It's a good thing I have Tony Hawk to fall back on... I was actually starting to think that it wasn't too bad. Janky, definitely, and an absolute joke of a concept, but not horrible. I take that back now. This is dreadful! And I'm only on the fourth playthrough. You need at least 10 to properly finish it.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & The Blade of Light (4th December 2020)
Glen-i replied to Julius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
That exact thing happened to me in Sacred Stones! Let out a big "NO!" when the enemy started a crit animation, only for him to immediately die! What makes it even better is that I didn't know Devil Axes did that (My first Fire Emblem). So I was incredibly confused. -
I wonder, would you be fine with big companies commissioning independent studios to make a single game if it meant it only released on said big company's console? (Kinda like Cadence of Hyrule's situation)
-
It's a nice enough dock, but I feel like it would've been nicer if it didn't have those small icons all over it. Just the gold pictures. Less is more and all that.

I can tell you with confidence that the 2D version of XI doesn't. (That might be intentional, given that 2D mode is meant to be a throwback to the retro style DQ). -
Lufia 2 did it. And that was a SNES game. Similar concept to Age of Calamity. Lufia 1 had a little backstory about a group of heroes who fought the big bad but gave up their lives in the process. Lufia 2 was actually a prequel that expanded on this little backstory. Ridiculously ahead of it's time in that regard and despite the foregone conclusion, it was actually quite engaging. While I think @Cube is wildly exaggerating, I did think it was a bit of a missed opportunity. Plenty of great stories end in tragedy. It would've hit so much harder if you played out the moments after Link is beaten. Two obvious ones that jump out are Impa getting Link to the Shrine of Resurrection and Zelda going to Hyrule Castle to start the 100 year process of containing Ganon. This does have the side effect of effectively cutting a quarter of the playable characters though, because sticking that close to the original story would mean they effectively can't take part. Just my thoughts on it. Like I said, this thread isn't really about Age of Calamity. Back to more important things. I wanna start with the bit I've bolded. Because I was under the assumption you had played HW. I was clearly mistaken, my bad. I want to try and clarify some things You're right in that we need to establish where HW is before all the other timelines get involved. When Link and Zelda meet Koei Tecmo OC Lana, she tells them that Cia's job is to watch over Hyrule throughout the ages and observe all the different times Link and Zelda fight the forces of evil. Problem is, after seeing all the times Link is forever tied to Zelda because of the Triforce, she starts to get a biiiit jealous. At this point in time, Ganondorf is sealed away by the Master Sword. But he's Ganondorf, so he somehow manages to exploit Cia's growing jealousy to convince her that she should be with Link. Anyway, Ganondorf helps her send an army of monsters to invade Hyrule and the game starts. So it's not three Ganons at once. It's just one Ganondorf. And because it's Ganondorf, I think we can safely assume that it's not the fallen timeline. Which means it's one of the other two and that's not quite as obvious. Hyrule Warriors seems to slightly imply that it's the Four Swords Adventures one. I base this on Cia's Palace. She's gone full on stalker and there's loads of statues and pictures of various incarnations of Link. Specifically, the ones from Skyward Sword, Ocarina of Time, Hyrule Warriors and Twilight Princess. Now obviously HW Link features because that's the current Link at the time. SS and OoT being there tells us little apart from the fact that Cia knows what theose Links look like. But the fact that there's also a statue of Wolf Link (and a lack of Toon Link) tells us that TP has happened and Cia knows what happened there. So simply put, Hyrule Warriors has to be after Four Swords Adventures. With that established, I'm gonna try and explain my thoughts about your other points. First of all, the only Zelda to get dragged to Hyrule Warriors was Tetra (Zelda from Spirit Tracks is also playable, but she's DLC and plays no part in the actual plot, so I'm not counting her). Tetra and King Daphnes go back to Wind Waker afterwards though, so the only royal line is HW Zelda. And if HW happens after FSA, then it has to be the royal line that descends from TP. The smoosh isn't permanent, but I do believe some migrants from the other eras might have stayed behind in the HW era. Which would mean Rito and Zora can co-exist. Yeah, you're right about why Tetra lacks knowledge of the royal family. Fair enough. I might be misremembering, but does BotW Zelda mention anything about the Wind Waker era in that speech about all the different times? I remember TP, SS and OoT being mentioned. I know this goes against the spirit of this thread, but sometimes you have to accept that an excuse was needed to make the player escort and protect some other characters. Because even I can't explain why such a ridiculously obtuse and specific mechanism was protecting the Master Sword.

Guess I'm making a new thread next week then. Given this theory I have. Hyrule Warriors would happen at the end of the pictured timeline, sometime after all the other games happen. HW merges the three timelines together, then Age of Calamity/BotW happen after some time after Hyrule Warriors. @Dcubed raises an important point. It's not just conflicting races. BotW contains hints of conflicting places as well! I feel like this further concretes my idea because Hyrule Warriors had loads of places from different timelines show up in one game. They were literally plonked into HW's Hyrule as part of the plot. Koroks existing just make the Zora in BotW even more confusing. The Rito evolved from Zoras because WW's Great Sea is pretty much devoid of food sources, it's just monsters, which the deep sea diver group in WW point out. But take the Zoras from OoT, put them in a world where Hyrule getting flooded never happens, and there's no need for that anymore. In fact, the Zora seem to have evolved to be even more fish-like. While the Rito trended to be more bird-like. (My guess is that their new, super cold home meant more feathers were required) As for Zelda being quite knowledgeable about the three different timelines. It certainly could be related to her being Hylia reincarnated, but then how do you explain Tetra? If being one of the many Zeldas clued you in to that kind of knowledge, shouldn't she have been knowledgeable of all the Zeldas before her? That wouldn't make sense because she's absolute clueless about her heritage until King Daphnes reveals it to her. Hyrule is pretty notorious for losing records of past events, but put Hyrule Warriors into the equation and suddenly, BotW's royal family knowing of the events of Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess, and Ocarina of Time make a whole lot more sense! I wouldn't be shocked if Zelda from HW asked Midna, Fi, Darunia, and so on about the Hyrules they came from. That sort of accurate knowledge would be ridiculously valuable!

OK, so this question is closed now. The poll for "Does Mario Still Exist?" has No winning 7-3. Guess we have to call it "Super Someone 3D World" now. Next question is at the top of the page, so I won't bother posting it here. Is Hyrule Warriors Canon? Have at it. Yeah, sorry, turns out you can't add a new poll, after one has closed so I'll just have to count all the votes next week. (Sorry, anyone who only voted without posting, you'll have to post your answers)
