flameboy Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 well its just finished.... here's how i see things, (of course I missed out Zelda) Wiisports looks incredible. Edge weren't kidding when they said it was what Super Mario 64 was to the N64 for the Wii. Everything about it looks perfect and slick pick up and play. Monkey Ball I still need some convincing the mini games look ok, but i think there are a few duff ones in (the UFO shooting thingy, and the random bird flying) obviously out of the 50 there were gonna be some duds.monkey target is a big disappointment. Excitetruck looks so much fun its a real sham it won't make launch but also means it won't get overlooked at all and will have its own clear release date. Finally madden looks pretty neat, im not really in to american football but this could get me into it and help me learn the rules maybe who knows.... a few problems they had with the wiimote getting them to sync, maybe cos they were rushing like little excited children... also commented on the sensor bar only being 100% when u are straight infront of it, this isnt much of a problem but guess multiplayer could get cramped. questions unanswered?!!! what does that elusive start up disc do? (did i miss that part?dont think I did) online stuff, (they set up connection but obviously servers aren't live yet) hmmm nothing else....
Fierce_LiNk Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Gamespot has made people think Zelda:TP is bad game. Check here. I'm not surprised. They really just wasted a lot of time running around like headless chickens. It wasn't the game that was the problem, it was the people playing it.

I don't think this is really the right enviroment to play zelda in to be honest, which is why people will slag it off, disappointing that they included it, could have left it and done something else.
triforce_keeper Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Can anyone tell me what plugin I need to view this? Stupid firefox isnt telling me
Ashley Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 American football ain't that difficult its just better....more complicated might be a less flame-worthy word...than football. Glad I didn't watch by the sound.
flameboy Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Can anyone tell me what plugin I need to view this? Stupid firefox isnt telling me hmmm dunno thats odd i could watch it i firefox, its finished anyhow.... the zelda debate has got quite heated on gamespot here is one highlight: Its just you, Zelda isn't an high-actioned game, its about finding angles of elevation, talking to NPCs and the like in addtion to that other stuff, the people playing are getting into all the sidequests rather than simply moving, which is probably what most people would do. Your clearly an idiot if you think it looks lame, since it looks the same as every other zelda in terms of design, and they have been mostly excellent. Its a REAL showing of a game, none of that fancy Trailer edited crap that's misleading. It looks boring to those who have no idea what to expect, since they are WAITING for stuff to happen, when a real fan would simply want to explore everything. Clearly your criticism is invalid since it would stand (and then be knocked flat and run over) for any other Zelda game. We've known how it'll play for a while, and its delivering on its promise of being a ZELDA game. BESIDES, who cares how it LOOKS to play, OOT is boring to watch others play, and TWW, but they are great to actually PLAY.
gaggle64 Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 I think "debate" is a rather strong word to be bandying around the Gamespot forums. It suggests a group of people calmly discussing known facts in order to come to a civilised conclusion. The Gamespot forums are, to my mind, more representative of a large herd of Yaks trying to decide who's the boss by having massive farting competition.
Fierce_LiNk Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 The video has actually reacted negatively towards their own fans on their forums. Gamers are now being put off titles such as ExciteTruck, due to the way it was portrayed in that video. You've seen our comments here, and i stand by what i said: some parts of their video, especially when playing ExciteTruck were just unwatchable. Some parts of Zelda were unbearable. Anyway, i'm just a little annoyed that people are being put off these sorts of games after watching these guys 'demonstrate' them.
assofaman Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 They've been discouraged by what was demonstrated in the video footage but you can be assured come review day, all these people complaining will be glued to their computer screens to see the VERDICTS and upon release will question why they even doubted the game in the first place.
... Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 I don't see what's surprising. What did people expect, to be thrilled by seeing other people quick play games on the internet? One thing is to watch selected gameplay videos, another is to watch someone's first session of a game. Me, when I first play a game, I must be the world's most boring player to watch. I take my time with absolutely everything, I'm in the game world and it's mine. This is a main reason why I don't like to game in public, because it's always bound to be comments from impacient spectators. We've all played some game or another at the store, right? Or the arcades for the old school. So you know what I'm talking about. There's always some unknown asshole in the background making stupid comments. I didn't really watch the Spot On thing from Gamespot. I tuned in occasionally but they were always playing Zelda and I didn't want to watch that. But I see the comments on their boards and those guys (the ones that post on the boards) are real dicks. Suddenly they're saying that the guys at Gamespot can't play games, and that they would have done what the staff did in a fraction of the time, and blablabla. Fuckwits, says I.
The3rdChildren Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Playing a game is everyone's personal experience. Everyone will play at their own pace and with their own style and inevitably those who disregard the new Zelda game based on a few minutes of some guys bumbling about with it are just going to miss out. These people have clearly not played a Zelda before with those attitudes. Personally I found what I watched of the marathon to be entertaining. These guys weren't trying to sell the games to anyone - they're just goofing off and playing Wii games together for the first time. The Zelda stuff just goes to show why nobody plays single player games with their friends - it's boring.

I stopped watching it after they got the wooden sword on Zelda but what I did see was hilarious. The situation was spot on when playing a single player game, 1 guy playing while everyone else shouts what they think he should do. When playing Zelda they even said that you wouldnt get to see the cool stuff as they were just starting the adventure and just about everyone who plays it come release day will be doing exactly the same things as they were trying, well maybe not exactly but close.
Jasper Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Someone at the GameSpot Forums said that the GameSpot gamers are probably better gamers than us. That's not true. There are no grades in being a gamer in a new game, or a new console. You can't say that someone is going to play better Zelda with a new control-interface than me the first time, even if they're playiong videogames their whole life. Gagge64 said: "The Gamespot forums are, to my mind, more representative of a large herd of Yaks trying to decide who's the boss by having massive farting competition." Totally right.
ZeldaFreak Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Maybe these fat SOBs would bowl a decent ball if they got their fat, lard eating butts off the couch! TBF to them though games aren't about getting up, their about laing on the couch not getting off it. Jeff is da man!!!
Haden Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 The thing about zelda is. I remeber when the ocarina had just come out. And in toys r us there were two demo pods. One for goldeneye another for ocarina of time. The goldeneye one was great as it was like boom headshot etc! But watching peole play zelda was a bit meh tbh. I could see how it was good but its quite a personal game. Because its so epic its not like in goldeneye shoot him shoot him. The choices are so vast and the kills in a sense less interacvtive and pleaseing to watch that it doesnt make the best tv. I loved playing res 4 with my friends as it was a crowd pleaser and hopefully red steel will be the same. But zelda, zelda time is my time.
CooInTheZoo Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 without the lady's comments i think i would of turned off through zelda. they did make it seem incredibley dull. but then go on youtube and watch someone running around kokiri (sp?) forest. its a load of shit. it wasnt 10 years back when you were holding your n64 controller sitting on your couch and exploring that new world for the very first time. if people cant see through the slow start and the idiots playing it... well then they are idiots themselves. the more people who dont get a wii on launch because of the shitty gamespot employee's the more there are for us! mwahahahaha. lolz.
revcube Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Wow, Gamespot really ruined the game for me, they were unenthusiastic and it was obvious they barely knew what a Wii was. 'Wow there like like totally two disks in there dude' WTF
Jasper Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Didn't know what Wii was? Understatement of the year, me think. I can understand why they think it's boring. You're with four people with one playing a single-player game. All the guys want to grab their mitts on the controllers and play some more Wii, instead they have to look at someone playing probably the Best-Game-Ever. I'de be pretty bored and unamused myself, to be honest. Theyt've tried their best, now let's keep our personal opinions uninfluenced by this and move on. I know it. You all know it. Wii know it. We will love Wii.
ZeldaFreak Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 They were doing a marathon of wii about 5 hours in total, they were trying to make it ammusing. They did the same thing with the ps3 mararthon. And personally what alex naravo(sp??) said was true 'enough of this backseat gaming'
revcube Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 The problem is it seemed like they weren't even interested and have barely played any Zelda game before by the looks of some of the stuff they did, plus why did they have to make lame jokes every 2 seconds, it's the first time the full beginning was shown to the public and they did it like that? =/
martinist Posted November 11, 2006 Author Posted November 11, 2006 If you want to see a re-run of this marathon or download it(all five hours or so) go to this address http://uk.gamespot.com/pages/features/onthespot/index.php?tag=topslot;action;1&om_act=convert&click=topslot and click on "click here" at the end of the third paragraph on the left. This will be up untill midnight on thursday night/friday morning. this weeks on the spot showcases Red Steel and next weeks on the spot will also be wii related.
Samdecahedron Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 At first, i found it entertaining, but then it just got so dull, and their jokes were just annoying. They really managed to draw away all the exitement that should have accompanied this event.
The Bard Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Waait, I can't find this anywhere!! I wanna watch it......

Aimless Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 So am I the only person that enjoyed watching them play Twilight Princess? Maybe I'm just used to watching people play games, but I found it really interesting getting to peek about the first area and admire just how... solid the games looks. And the animation and characterisation is fantastic! Perhaps I've 'spoilt' that part of the game, but it isn't anything substantial; I'd have stopped if they had made it to a dungeon, say, or anywhere out of what is essentially the training area. Anyway, I didn't tune in until near the end of the ExciteTruck section, so I might try and download the rest so I can see Wii Sports.
